Cathartic black metallers GAEREA release new video for 'Laude'

Cathartic black metal outfit GAEREA have released a brand new video for their track 'Laude', taken from the group's freshly-released album Mirage, out now via Season of Mist.

The new offering celebrates GAEREA's upcoming tour dates with labelmates Gaahls Wyrd and Saor which kicks off later this week. Full dates are listed below.

Behind black shrouds of obscurity and desolation, GAEREA deliver their odes in cascading maelstroms of aggression and beauty. Emerging from the age of pandemic to whatever awaits humanity next, the Portuguese horde remains on the frontlines of the next generation of extreme metal. With an EP and two albums to their name, GAEREA has rapidly distinguished themselves from the thousands of bands toiling away in the underground. Brewing their cauldron of sound from a recipe of pounding black-metal blast mixed with a touch of harrowed, reflective longing, many devotees of the darkened arts have flocked to their banner. With the emergence of third full-length album Mirage, those numbers are sure to grow.

Mirage, as its name suggests, describes the inability to trust what our senses are telling us and this could be construed as one of the album’s central themes. Rather than constrict their art to mythological references or anti-religious tropes, GAEREA instead plumb the depths of the human experiences of isolation and suffering. “The concept, the subject, of each song is everyone, you, me . . . if people were alone together in Limbo, in Mirage they are truly alone. Nobody is truly real until they are alone.”

Boasting a superior production that threads the needle between clarity and causticness, GAEREA unwaveringly admit their loyalty to countryman and producer Miguel Tereso of Demigod Recordings. The cover artwork for Mirage was created by the SAROS Collective.

With talons dipped in the inky blood of black metal and scraped across the flesh of human suffering, GAEREA is leading a charge into the future of darkness, and all those who find beauty and power in the dark side of existence would do well to take heed.

WE ARE GAEREA.

Dayseeker release new single 'Dreamstate'

Southern California's Dayseeker have released their new single 'Dreamstate'. The track is taken from the band's upcoming album Dark Sun, due for release on 4th November 2022 via Spinefarm.

Check out the visualiser for 'Dreamstate' here: https://youtu.be/7abxfS42lqs

Pre-order Dark Sun here: https://dayseeker.lnk.to/DarkSun

"'Dreamstate' is about my experiences in dreaming of my father, who passed last July and truly feeling like we were communicating while it was happening," frontman Rory Rodriguez shares about the intensely person track. "It was a beautiful thing to experience on one hand... but also very heartbreaking and disorienting with my sense of reality on the other."

The album as a whole is incredibly contemplative, with Rodriguez adding: "Dark Sun is a collection of songs that deeply explored my personal life over the last two years. Most of it is written about my father's passing, about how it felt like the sun burned out the day he passed, and how the world is a little darker without him in it."

Dayseeker are a quiet killer. The band has steadily built a buzz over the past several years - and they have reached a tipping point. Dayseeker built themselves into a scene standout with 2019's Sleeptalk, which was hailed by Alternative Press as "a warm and welcome release to higher ground" and as "much needed fresh air into the post-hardcore scene." The album has gone on to accumulate over 150 million streams, and it positioned the band as a formidable force, one that is primed to take the next big leap. In 2021, the band dropped a deluxe version of Sleeptalk, featuring four reimagined versions of album tracks, which offered fans a fresh and unique take on songs they already love. It also demonstrated the depth and breadth of the band's creative vision, scope, and possibilities.

However, Dark Sun will be Dayseeker's moment and is set to catapult the band beyond the scene's stratosphere.

After a successful summer headliner run, Dayseeker will be back on the road this autumn supporting Bad Omens.

Obsidious (ex-Obscura) release single 'Lake of Afterlife'

Photo Credit: Axel Winkler/ Blackened Cult Photography

Modern progressive metal outfit Obsidious, featuring ex-members of Obscura, have released their single 'Lake of Afterlife', taken from their forthcoming debut album Iconic, out 28th October via Season of Mist.

Watch the video to 'Lake of Afterlife' here: https://youtu.be/ckzl1fLEczE
Pre-order Iconic here: https://shop.season-of-mist.com/list/obsidious-iconic
Pre-save Iconic here: https://orcd.co/obsidious-iconic

Obsidious comment on the single: "This song narrates, in first person, the experience of a person whose time has come, but who is being stopped by external factors. And this person just wants to go in peace, that he has accepted his fate and does not want to suffer. It is a situation we have often seen of denial on the part of relatives of a person who is being kept alive, prolonging the inevitable.”

The new song is the sixth single to be released from Iconic, following on from 'Devotion', 'Under Black Skies', 'Sense Of Lust', 'Iconic' and 'Bound By Fire'.

The Iconic cover artwork, which was created by Adrien Bousson, can be found below along with the track-list.

Wonderfully intricate and musically-accomplished, Iconic is technical but not officious. The group—featuring Linus Klausenitzer (bass), Rafael Trujillo (guitars), Sebastian Lanser (drums), and Javi Perera (vocals)—come from distinguished and lettered origins in Obscura, Alkaloid, Eternity’s End, and Juggernaut. Obsidious, however, are a different creature entirely.

Obsidious crystallised after Klausenitzer, Trujillo, and Lanser departed amicably from fellow German tech-metallers Obscura in 2020. Named after black volcanic glass, the group’s moniker exudes something dark, of fiery origin, in a state of final transformation. Metaphorically, the name Obsidious offers a nearly limitless platform for expression and advancement. However, it was only when the trio brought on newcomer Perera—whose growls and full-toned voice are first-rate—were the multi-national outfit officially codified. Interestingly enough, the newly-joined frontman couldn’t even meet his bandmates while the band wrote, recorded, and filmed videos for Iconic due to the pandemic. Yet, the technologically-apt foursome made it work.

“We consider ourselves the modern evolution of progressive and technical metal,” bassist Linus Klausenitzer says. “To name a few bands: Dream Theater, Devin Townsend, Meshuggah, Opeth, Between the Buried and Me, Protest the Hero, Periphery, and Haken. As such, our music asks for many different moods and vibes. Javi’s vocals reinforce that idea, adding meaning and drama to it. While we still work as session musicians, Obsidious is now our main priority.”

Throughout Iconic, Obsidious impress with their artistic inventiveness and creative expanse. The album breathes intensity but expands upon it with mellifluent dexterity. With Obsidious, there’s always a hook. The early release of and positive feedback from previous video singles illustrates these qualities well. Iconic builds upon a prestigious foundation, but its vision isn’t restricted to its tenets.

“This album does not have a concept per se in terms of lyrics or an underlying storyline,” vocalist Javi Perera comments. “The songs on this album touch on subjects of diverse nature, and there are even some songs that narrate personal experiences. But what I can consider as a common denominator in the album is the absence of constraints on a compositional or stylistic level, allowing us the freedom to shift between different musical genres as long as the song requires it. I always consider that we, as artists and musicians, are at the service of the music and not the other way around.”

Obisidious are ready to deploy their unique brand of hooky neoteric metal on Iconic. From Trujillo’s wickedly clever riffs and Lanser’s artful drumming to Klausenitzer’s superb counterpoint and Perera’s soaring vocals/venomous spits, songs like 'Under Black Skies,' 'Iconic,' 'Bound by Fire,' and 'Nowhere' brim with cool calculation and aggressive spontaneity. They storm normality not only musically and lyrically. The monolithic cover piece by French graphic artist Adrien Bousson (Rotting Christ, Khonsu) also transcends convention. Obsidious are poised for a breakthrough on Iconic. Prepare for metal’s modern metamorphosis!

Iberian black/death metal practitioners Noctem release new single 'I Am Alpha'

Iberian death/black metal practitioners, Noctem, have revealed their latest single 'I Am Alpha', the opening psalm to the band's forthcoming full-length, Credo Certe Ne Cras, to be released 28th October via MNRK Heavy.

Check out the video for 'I Am Alpha' here: https://youtu.be/5MpyxifqoFY

Pre-order Credo Certe Ne Cras here: https://ffm.to/noctem-ccnc

The band elaborate: “Through its musical aspects and lyrical theme, this song delves deep into the depths of anguish, and embodies domination and the existential phenomenology of the human being. A transcendental journey, an awakening, and the realisation that we are the beginning of the end."

In spirit, presentation, and philosophy, Noctem shares much in common with Watain, Rotting Christ, Belphegor, and Gorgoroth, while sprouting their own decaying branch of a rotten metal tree. Any extreme band with Spanish-style nylon string guitars in their arsenal owes a sizable debt to them.

Noctem follow on from their previous career landmark in 2019, The Black Consecration, with a new definitive masterpiece, merging the crushing cacophony of angry, adrenaline-fuelled lust with newfound sorrows and mournful melodic might. Credo Certe Ne Cras, (I believe with certainty that there is no tomorrow), is a work of art. The album demands to be experienced as much as listened to, invoking ritualistic examination.

The blood and fire spewed forth by Noctem are visceral, fitting companions to their unrivalled sound, a vicious black metal assault enhanced with a signature Iberian flourish. Arguably the best-known extreme metal export from Valencia, Spain, Noctem's ungodly path put them in front of cult audiences around the world.

The first metal band from Spain to perform in China, Noctem's unrelenting touring saw them team up with the likes of Murduk, Batushka, Napalm Death, Immolation, and many more over the years. Dozens of prestigious extreme festivals added them to their line-ups including Bloodstock, Metal Embrace, Metaldays, and Festimetal Santa Catarina.

In 2002, Noctem made their putrid presence felt with their Unholy Blood demo. The God Among Slaves demo followed in 2007, building blood-thirsty anticipation for the band's proper full-length debut, Divinity (2009).

Oblivion came in 2011, followed by a deal with Prosthetic Records which birthed Exilium (2014) and Haeresis (2016), a concept album entered on the Spanish Inquisition. The Black Consecration (2019) expanded Noctem's themes of ancient civilisations and dark rites to encompass more of Beleth's philosophy, previously outlined in the his first book, 2017's Codex Ante-Morten, released the same year as the band’s homemade beer, A Cruce Salus.

In 2022 and beyond, Noctem take a massive leap forward on their thorn-ridden path, armed with blackened faith and righteous fury, thirsty with unquenchable bloodlust, and prepared to conquer. They arise again without redemption, embracing the chaos of modern times and unafraid of fate

InTechnicolour release single / video 'Tokyo Dream' and announce UK tour with Skin Failure

UK rock quartet InTechnicolour have revealed their latest single / video 'Tokyo Dream', taken from their new album Midnight Heavyweight, due for release on 4th November 2022 via Small Pond Records.

Premiered via Metal Sucks, check out the video for 'Tokyo Dream' here: https://youtu.be/A3UVdu-b4HY

Stream / purchase & pre-order Midnight Heavyweight here: https://linktr.ee/InTechnicolour

The band comment on 'Tokyo Dream': "Tokyo Heavyweight is a song about feeling like you're losing someone. In my own interpretation, it's a romantic love but it could be any kind of love disappearing. It's about that feeling of emptiness in the pit of your stomach you get when you know that person is not going to be there anymore, and the damage done when experiencing that loss. The overwhelming loss can make you feel resentful. It can make you feel damaged and want to lash out at...anybody. "

InTechnicolour have also announced a UK tour with newly-launched hardcore band Skin Failure (ex-Black Peaks). Dates:

Nov-10 Leeds, Key Club
Nov-11 Nottingham, Chameleon
Nov-13 Bristol, Crofters
Nov-24 London, Camden Assembly
Nov-25 Milton Keynes, Craufurd Arms
Nov-26 Southampton, Suburbia
Nov-27 Brighton, Prince Albert

Check out the video for previous single 'The Wave' here: https://youtu.be/-0V4D7cxnno

Hailing from Brighton, InTechnicolour are a riffy, groovy, rock band with a knack for creating a colourful song or two. Formed in 2015 through a want to play loud music through slightly broken amps, the basis of the band was created.

InTechnicolour are an inventive four-piece comprised of technically gifted musicians, cutting loose and playing music that’s about as far removed from their day jobs as it’s possible to get – and they are doing it better than a good portion of their contemporaries. Landing somewhere between the slack desert-groove of Kyuss and Karma To Burn, the band combine deeply satisfying riffs with a dynamic vocal style, which calls to mind the sounds of Baroness, Alice In Chains and Sound Garden.

InTechnicolour have previously toured across the UK and Europe with the likes of Physics House Band, Black Peaks, Town Portal, Bitch Falcon and Haggard Cat, and are gearing up to hit the road this autumn with dates to be announced very soon.

Deathcore quartet A Wake In Providence release new single 'We Are Eternity'

New York, USA deathcore band A Wake In Providence have released their mighty new single 'We Are Eternity', taken from their highly-anticipated new record Eternity, to be released 21st October via Unique Leader Records.

Watch 'We Are Eternity' here: https://youtu.be/ou8N8OZpyoQ

Stream and pre-order Eternity here: https://orcd.co/eternityawip

The band comment: "We are so excited to bring you, 'We Are Eternity'! This song really brings more of this story to the table and gives you great insight into who The Trinity is and what role they play in this narrative. Thank you to everyone involved with creating this and to you all for checking it out!"

Formed in 2010 from unremarkable beginnings, A Wake In Providence diligently grew to become the renowned and otherworldly force they are today. Originally a heavier-than-your-average deathcore act, the band’s debut 2010 demo and 2012 debut EP Serpents saw them infusing a raw and ruthless take on traditional deathcore with contemporary metallic elements to make something sharp enough to cut its way through the thicket of bland, boring heavy music acts. While Serpents gained the band notoriety in their local area, it wasn’t until the release of their sophomore EP, Insidious, that the band went from prodigally talented to true rising stars in the heavy music community. Adding a liberal dose of downtempo deathcore to their instrumental stylings, Insidious earned the band global infamy and critical acclaim, as well as tours with some of the underground’s bigger names-including In Dying Arms, Extortionist and Lorna Shore, as well as several smaller solo runs along the East Coast.

Never ones to remain complacent, A Wake In Providence grew once more in 2016, with the addition of Will Ramos (now with Lorna Shore), but also with their drastic stylistic change, omitting their penchant for low, slow downtempo deathcore in favour of a renewed focus on more aggressive, fast and furious traditional deathcore elements with a razor-sharp technical twist. Combining marvellous metallic riffs with crushing breakdowns and shrill, sinister vocals to create an intense onslaught unlike any other band in the heavy music scene, A Wake In Providence are vile enough to make the sewers look clean, and vicious enough to tear the still-beating heart out of the listener's chest.

Now a quartet with new vocalist Adam Mercer and signing with the legendary Unique Leader Records, A Wake In Providence's status looks set to only rise further.

The band comment "The police are unfortunately a necessary evil. For some of the good they do, there is plenty of bad that follows. They protect property and capital first and foremost. This goes out to anyone who has had the misfortune of being mistreated or neglected by the police in any way."

Catch Ironed Out live:

30/09/22 - Readyfest - New Cross Inn, London
04/11/22 - w/ Burn Alive & Stamp Out - The Birdcage, Portsmouth
10/11/22 - w/ The Chisel & High Vis - The Underworld, London
08/04/23 - Donfest - Eiger Studios, Leeds

The single follows Ironed Out's highly acclaimed third album We Move As One, released in 2020 via GSR Music.

Founded in 2014 by stalwarts of London's LBU scene, including Wema of the legendary Knuckledust, Ironed Out are a well seasoned machine who quickly built a reputation as one of the UK's toughest sounding live bands. As well as being well respected on the UKHC live circuit, 2019 saw the band join the Rebellion 8 tour in Europe playing alongside Madball and Death Before Dishonor and Born From Pain.

In a world on the brink of societal collapse, hardcore music is as important as ever, and Ironed Out are flying the flag for the UK scene.

Maxim Mental releases video for new single 'Evermore (and the Grammy Goes to)'

Maxim Mental, the solo project of Say Anything’s Max Bemis, has released a new video for his single 'Evermore (and the Grammy Goes to)' . The track is taken from his upcoming album Make Team Presents Maxim Mental in Maximalism, out now via Dine Alone Records.

Directed by Bemis and shot and edited by Daniel Poe, watch 'Evermore (and the Grammy Goes to)' here: https://youtu.be/_YHMvnh-RBA

Max Bemis commented "I've always come up with or contribute heavily to much of the insanity that makes it into my videos (as if you couldn't tell). This is, however, the first time those involved were kind (and naïve) enough to let me direct one. Whether that's because the subject matter is so personal, or it's Covid desperation, I had great fun, am super proud of it, and am now hungry for more, God help me."

Make Team Presents Maxim Mental in Maximalism was co-written and produced by Grammy nominated producer Will Yip (Code Orange, Title Fight, Turnstile) who is also a longtime collaborator of Max Bemis.

Say Anything was, despite its place in a genre known for sincerity, somewhat of a satire of the quintessential emo band. Bemis being the Andy Kaufman of it all was enough to delight and confuse an entire generation as to whether he was a “real boy” or Ziggy Stardust infused with Curb Your Enthusiasm and the Vagrant Records discography. The final Say Anything LP was written from the point of Oliver Appropriate, a personification of this intentionally confused public persona; his death during climactic 'Sediment' echoed the end of an era for the band itself. When ready to recover from twenty years of trauma making music, Max’s answer was more natural than that of the obvious invented "characters" of Bowie and other musicians to escape pigeon holes; with Maxim Mental, for the first time, Max had to be solely himself.

Prog-metallers Exist Immortal return with new single / video for 'Emerge'

UK progressive metal juggernauts Exist Immortal have unveiled 'Emerge', the second single / video taken from the quintet's upcoming full-length, self-titled album due 14th October via Seek and Strike.

New albumExist Immortalcan now be pre-saved here: https://orcd.co/eximalbum

Album pre-orders will be available from Friday 23rd September here: https://ex-im.co.uk/merch-store

On the new single, vocalistMeyrick de la Fuente states:

"Our latest offering ‘Emerge’ is a bombastic, melodic and sweeping metal anthem, which serves as the emotional climax of the album.

"As the penultimate song on our new self-titled studio album, 'Emerge' lives up to its name lyrically uplifting the listener with guitar and vocal parts which can only be described as epic. This track is our favourite example of the melodic chemistry betweenMeyrickandMikey, with intertwining melodies, whilst the hard hitting rhythm section gives the song its pulsing and anthemic feel.

"Mixed with a breakdown of harsh vocals, and guitar melodies that vintage
Avenged Sevenfoldthemselves would approve of, 'Emerge' is sure to be the emotive anthem our fans will sing their hearts out to. We absolutely cannot wait to play this one live because of the sing-along nature and those guitar solos.

'Emerge' is a personal favourite of ours and our fans who have had a chance to hear it early. The song and video is the perfect representation of our journey and abilities so far. We cannot wait for this one."

On the upcoming full-length album, the band comment:

"We are very excited to present our latest, self-titled, full length album. For us this is a culmination of a lot of work, building and evolving. We bring back a lot of the heavier elements from our older releases while keeping a lot of the aesthetics and layers from Triptych. As musicians we have always struggled with where to place ourselves amongst our peers and always written music we wanted to make over intentionally fitting into existing trends. We feel that this album is by far our most accomplished and self-assured record to date, reincorporating harsh vocals while exploring new territory on the guitar side of things."

Watch the video to previous single 'Flare' here: https://youtu.be/NkYaM85u8fg

In celebration of the album's release date, Exist Immortal will be embarking on a string of UK-based tour dates, including a headline set in Camden's intimate Black Heart on release day.

"We are bringing our biggest and best headline show we have ever toured with us and will be playing new songs alongside fan favourites, so old and new fans alike will experience something fresh. Our new record is set for an 14th October release, which we feel is easily our best work to date drawing influence from our entire back catalogue of music into the most refined, truest version of EXIM. This London show will be the official launch party of the new album and we are so excited that this show and iconic venue will be the very first time this new era is brought into the world."

14.10 - London, Black Heart
26.10 - Bristol, Crofters Rights
27.10 - Sheffield, Corporation
28.10 - Newcastle, Head Of Steam
29.10 - Birmingham, Scruffy Murphy’s

Hailing from the Southeast of England, Exist Immortal combine metalcore and technical metal with pop influences. Having spent the last few years touring across the UK and Europe developing their sound and growing their fanbase, they’ve left a lasting impact on their audiences with their powerful live shows. Fresh off their recent headline performance at UK Tech Fest (UK) and other appearances at the likes of Metaldays (SLOV), Euroblast (GER), Maximum Rock (ROM) and tours with high profile acts such as Sikth, Textures and Landmvrks, Exist Immortal are ready to release their follow up to 2021’s three-part release Triptych.
