Borders combine ferocious, hard-hitting metalcore with elements of hip-hop, grime, hardcore and alternative metal, completed with a dash of introspection and brazen, no-holds-barred atmosphere. The quartet are a young but driven collective hellbent on taking the heavy music community by storm with an onslaught of thought-provoking, sinister and brutally aggressive tracks. Built around an impetus that obliterates any notion of single-genre classification in favour of an immersive yet punishingly heavy experience, Borders continually push the limits of what's expected from any band in the metalcore circuit.

"UK rap-metalcore mosh-starters join the heavyweight league" - Metal Hammer

Brutal death metal outfit Omophagia release new video/single 'Thoughts of the Earth'

Brutal death metal outfit Omophagia have released a blistering new single 'Thoughts of the Earth', taken from their album, Rebirth In Black, out now via Unique Leader Records.

Watch the video here: https://youtu.be/E3UKDJlK-Vw

Order Rebirth In Black here: https://orcd.co/rebirthinblack

The band comment: "One of the heavier songs off our new album Rebirth In Black. This song is one of our favourites to play live, and the lyric video was made by our bassist, Rafa. We hope you enjoy it as much as we do!"

Omophagia's name relates to the consumption of raw flesh, so it's no surprise that the death metal horde tear through skin and bone with razor sharp precision. Following on from their 2019 Unique Leader release 646965, Rebirth In Black is the latest soul crushing offering from the Swiss-Brazillian death metallers. The eleven track album was recorded, mixed and mastered by Kohlenkeller Studio (Aborted, Benighted, Cytotoxin) with accompanying album artwork created by Stefan Skjoedt.

Forming in 2006, Omophagia hail from Switzerland and comprise of a world class group of Swiss and Brazilian musicians. Their first demo, Devouring Raw Flesh (2008) reaped the critical acclaim of the extreme metal underground and led to various live club shows, as well as festival spots nationwide and abroad opening for the likes of Morbid Angel, Kataklysm and Keep Of Kalessin. At the close of 2009, Omophagia recorded their Guilt By Nescience (2010) debut. Mixed and mastered at Hertz Studio in Poland, the record earned the approval of Metal Hammer Magazine who awarded the offering “Demo Of the Month” status hailing, “brutal blasting drums meets massive, buzzing riffs, framed by soulful leads, rounded off by classic deep-growled vocals. Rhythmical variability and a well-balanced sound make Guilt By Nescience a record for friends of brutal sounds on a technical high level.

Their sickeningly ferocious follow-up album In The Name of Chaos (2016) then saw the band go out on tour alongside Morgoth and Incantation. In 2019 Omophagia released 646965 to critical acclaim worldwide. Since then the international five-piece have staked a pretty brutal claim within the world of extreme metal, renowned for their breakneck speed, ruthless extremity and intensity, having toured with the likes of Nile, Hate Eternal and Vitriol.

Electronic ambient duo Aiming For Enrike release new live video

Maverick ambient electro duo Aiming For Enrike have released a new live video, performing 'Empty Airports Pt. 1, 2 & 3', the epic 11-minute opening to their forthcoming new album Empty Airports, which will be released 20th January via Jansen Records.

Watch the otherworldly performance here: https://youtu.be/Em-l1-XcFAE

Pre-order the album here: https://orcd.co/afe-slopes

Guitarist Simen Følstad Nilsen says: "Minimalism, which has always been an important part of our expression, is now cultivated to a much greater extent. When the rush to fulfill musical expectations is abounded, it gives the music more space to become more hypnotic and mesmerizing than before."

It’s safe to say that Aiming For Enrike’s fame has come mostly thanks to their frenetic, wild and engaging live shows – having toured extensively in USA, India, Japan, Czech Republic, Norway, England and Germany for several years. Recently the duo have performed at the UK's esteemed ArcTanGent Festival, released an acclaimed Audiotree session, and toured with modern prog titans Leprous.

Previously known for noisy musical transformations and frenetic sonic attacks, Empty Airports marks a significant tonal shift for Aiming For Enrike. More electronic, more atmospheric and massive, the new album delves more deeply in the world of ambient than ever before.

A reflection and recognition of the stillness of COVID-life, Empty Airports was recorded during the strange, silent lockdown months of 2020 and 2021. The most spacious of Aiming For Enrike's work so far released, Empty Airports is also the duo's longest record, and their first double album.

Taking influence variously from the likes of Nils Frahm, Burial, Jon Hopkins, Sunn O))), Empty Airports' title touches on the stopped nature of the COVID world, a sense of the post-apocalyptic, and is a tip of the hat to Brian Eno's Music for Airports record.

Another stellar release in the canon of an already well-regarded forward-thinking group, Empty Airports proves beyond doubt that Aiming For Enrike live entirely in their own universe.

Vocalist Anthony Dilliberto comments:

"Nearly a year after the release of our debut album, and about fifty shows played across Europe and the UK, we were eager to follow up with something new, and build on our newly established sound. The four of us in Resolve share common values of DIY and self-sufficiency. It is paramount for us to remain in total control of our art, from the earliest draft to the finished product. And despite all the good we find in the process, it comes with its share of downsides.

"That is what 'Move to Trash' is all about. This track has an almost 'meta' approach to it, basically telling the story of getting lost in the songwriting process, working tirelessly, questioning everything you create... you often end up stuck in a loop, where passion turns into obsession, to the point of losing your sense of reason and priorities. We feel like every creative person can relate to these issues in one form or another. A standalone release was also the occasion for us to try something different with the music video. It has a lighter, definitely ironic feeling, while also being so much more straight forward and efficient than any of our previous videos."

Resolve will tour with Caliban alongside special guests Annisokay and League Of Distortion in November and December.

Doom kings Candlemass premiere new single featuring Jennie-Ann Smith of Avatarium

Legendary classic doom icons Candlemass will release their new album, Sweet Evil Sun, this Friday, 18th November 2022 via Napalm Records, and today unveil its third single 'When Death Sighs'.

Watch the new lyric video to 'When Death Sighs' here: https://youtu.be/yHNUA7g0Kks

Pre-order Sweet Evil Sun here: https://napalmrecords.com/candlemass

Following the hammering first single, 'Scandinavian Gods' and the heavy doom successor track 'Sweet Evil Sun', 'When Death Sighs' is the final appetiser before the release of Sweet Evil Sun. Lethargic riffs announcing the ominous arrival of death, while Jennie-Ann Smith, mesmerising vocalist of Edling's brainchild Avatarium, accents the song’s shimmering, blood-freezing chorus lines. With no exit out of the situation, the haunting atmosphere is supported by an amazing guitar solo, closing the dark chapter of the death’s breath, delivered with an eerie lyric video to capture this dark feeling visually.

Recorded at NOX studio in Stockholm, the Swedish force centred around Leif Edling continue their unmatched legacy with Sweet Evil Sun, following the inimitable The Door to Doom (2019) and proving once more that they reign as one of the heaviest metal bands on earth, bringing epic doom to the world of metal.

After working on this massive piece of art for eighteen months in total, with Sweet Evil SunCandlemass brings back all the grandness of their early years, exploring themes of ambition and strife, hope and failure. It comes as no surprise that, alongside the band, renowned producer Marcus Jidell captured their massive, smoky guitar tones, powerful drums and larger-than-life vocals, offering a truly unique, high quality sonic experience.

Recorded at NOX studio in Stockholm, Sweden, Sweet Evil Sun impressively showcases that, after almost forty years in the game, the creativity of these Swedish doom masters sees no bounds. Through the power of wall-shaking riffs, incredible vocal performances and the blood and spirit of classic heavy metal, Sweet Evil Sun shines as a masterpiece of impending legend that truly honours the epic doom metal cult of Candlemass.

The artwork for Sweet Evil Sun was illustrated by the skilled hand of Erik Rovanperä, the architect behind Candlemass’ visual style since Psalms for the Dead (2012).

Leif Edling on the new album: Sweet Evil Sun is about hope, striving, adoration and failure. It's about all the personal battles that you have, but also the never-ending decay of humanity.

"The record took over a year to make and there's not a bad track on it! We had a fantastic time recording it and are really looking forward to the release. It's doom, it's metal! It is the essence of Candlemass put into one album!”

Opening track 'Wizard Of The Vortex' instantly casts a spell with a riff so powerful, the listener is immediately ensnared. Title track 'Sweet Evil Sun' kicks in with warning guitar feedback before sludging a heavy-as-hell riff as Johan Langquist deftly warbles through melancholic, beckoning passages and a hooky chorus. His imposing vocals fit each riff and tone perfectly, emerging as an instrument in itself. Jennie-Ann Smith (Avatarium) lends her beautiful voice to the theatrical, grim 'When Death Sighs', creating a shimmering, intermingled chorus duet eventually backed by rising organs and a marching rhythm. The haunting atmosphere is highlighted by an amazing guitar solo that reads like a story as it bends and descends, marking the sign of death on the listener’s door.

Experimental post-HC quintet Shell Beach sign with Wild Thing Records & stream new single

Hailing from Hungary, experimental post hardcore quintet Shell Beach have signed with forward-thinking Australian label Wild Thing Records, and unveiled their mesmerising new single / video 'Love Craft - House of Death'.

Dancing between post-hardcore, alternative and experimental rock genres, Budapest-based quintet Shell Beach have established themselves as one of the most exciting rock acts today. Initially formed in 2007, and with several European tours under their belt, Shell Beach’s line-up has evolved over time into what is now a Hungarian supergroup from Budapest’s highly respected underground rock scene. As a result, the band have expanded on their post-hardcore and shoegaze roots, with a well-crafted and evolved record.

'Love Craft - House of Death', the first release on new label Wild Thing Records, is the first taste of their new material from their upcoming album, which is as conceptually deep as the music itself.

On the new single, vocalist Zoltán Bodóczy comments: “Since I am a big Lovecraft fan and this short story is one of my favourites, it was obvious to "borrow" these terrible, horrific images to describe the situation. A complete separation from reality, an unearthly emotional world of despair. And the author's name appears in the title as a kind of pun, which suggests that love as a craft cannot be pursued without sacrifices.”

To date, Shell Beach have released an EP and two full-length albums, collaborating with Matt Geise (Lower Definition and ex-Dance Gavin Dance), with guest vocals on Shell Beach’s second record This is Desolation.

Shell Beach are no strangers to the European touring circuit with six European tours under their belts as well as appearances at several major European festivals. The band have toured Europe supporting Enter Shikari and a handful of their own headline tours. Shell Beach have also graced the festival stages of Groezrock Festival (BE), Sziget Festival (HU), Rock For People Festival (CZ), Electric Castle (RO), Volt Festival (HU), and many others. Touring helped mature the band's sound and helped Shell Beach get further established as the most prominent band of the Hungarian rock music scene, leaving the band’s fanbase eagerly awaiting their forthcoming record.

Global doom supergroup MMXX release new single/video feat. Yann Ligner (Klone)

Global doom metal supergroup MMXX have released their new single/video, ‘The New Forgotten Ones feat. Yann Ligner (Klone)'.

The fourth single to be released from their emotionally-rich album Sacred Cargo, which is out now via Candlelight Records, bursts forth with soaring grace, laced with rich-textured soundscapes, soulful vocals, and powerful beauty.

Check out the video, ‘The New Forgotten Ones feat. Yann Ligner (Klone)’: https://youtu.be/_iIlsXWd2l0

Streaming and purchase options here: https://MMXX.lnk.to/SacredCargoPR

Commenting on the new single, drummer Jesse Haff explains: "'The New Forgotten Ones' was one of the first songs we wrote, and we repeatedly refined it over time. But it wasn’t until Yann Ligner added his distinct vocals that the song became whole. We’re really proud how this one came out, and the video is more like a short film companion — director Vesa Ranta went above and beyond."

Born during the initial lockdown of Rome and New York City, and incubated as the seasons passed, doom metal supergroup MMXX is the sound of global isolation. At the core of MMXX is Andrea Chiodetti (ex-The Foreshadowing) on guitars and keys, Jesse Haff on drums (Daylight Dies and Gökböri) and Egan O’Rourke on bass (Daylight Dies). Together they channelled inspiration for composition after composition to collaborate with a geographically, culturally, and stylistically diverse collection of celebrated vocalists and musicians from around the world.

"Sacred Cargo started during one of the darkest moments of lockdown," explains guitarist Andrea Chiodetti, "it was a creative expression, processing what was happening to the world around us. What makes this project unique is that every piece and its lyrics (provided by each singer), all composed during the height of the pandemic, is able to give voice to a deeply intimate part of all of us. They’re lyrics that belong to every person who lived through and shared that collective experience."

The end result, Sacred Cargo, is a dynamic and diverse sounding release, simultaneously densely heavy whilst retaining elements of etherealness and light, with each guest vocalist layering in their own perspective to culminate in this eclectic compendium of music reflecting an experience sadly understood by all.

Drummer Jesse Haff adds: "It's amazing to me that the grand vision of this album—one in which we had different vocalists from around the world contributing their own lockdown experience—was actually achieved. Andrea and I imagined our ideal end result and just went for it, but underestimated how much coordination would be required by everyone to truly pull it off. I'm amazed that so many talented people connected with the intent behind the project and agreed to participate. I'm deeply grateful for that. We didn't have to describe some foreign science fiction concept—unfortunately it is a directly understood reality experienced by all. I think the idea of directly channeling our unique perspectives into a collective expression resonated with everyone, as an obvious way to mark this era of our lives."

Guest vocalists appearing on the album include Dan Swanö of Edge of Sanity, Nightingale (Sweden), Yann Ligner of Klone (France), Mick Moss of Antimatter and Sleeping Pulse (UK), Aaron Stainthorpe of My Dying Bride (UK), Mikko Kotamaki of Swallow the Sun (Finland), Carmelo Orlando of Novembre (Italy), Marco Benevento of The Foreshadowing (Italy), Chris Cannella of Autumns End (USA), and Egan O’Rourke of Daylight Dies (USA).

Brutal death metallers Obvurt release new single/video 'Versus'

Canadian technical death metal trio Obvurt have released their second single 'Versus' from forthcoming new album Triumph Beyond Adversity, due to be released via Unique Leader on 2nd December.

Watch the new visualiser here: https://youtu.be/PE2XYoP9_00
Pre-order/pre-save the album here: https://orcd.co/triumphbeyondadversity

Obvurt, an amalgamation of the words obvert (to oppose) and hurt (to wound), was created in 2020 as a solo project by Philippe Drouin (ex-Unbreakable Hatred) and remains a compelling lesson in human spirit and perseverance. After being involved in a car accident in 2016, Drouin found himself unable to play guitar, as he could no longer pick due to a severe injury to his right hand. Rather than abandoning the instrument he’d been playing for 15 years, Drouin taught himself to play left-handed, it took three years and an estimated 7,000 hours of practice, under the tutelage of famously ambidextrous shredder, guitar tutor Michael Angelo Batio.

Obvurt's first release, The Beginning (2021) was a concept EP told in six episodes and recorded at Grid Studio in Montreal by Chris Donaldson (Cryptopsy), featured band members Olivier Pinard (Cattle Decapitation, Cryptopsy) on bass and Samuel Santiago (ex-Gorod, ex-Melechesh, ex-First Fragment) on drums.

Returning in 2022 with their first full-length, Triumph Beyond Adversity, Obvurt offer an intense listen that's not without balance. There are plenty of crushing grooves, technical riffing, blistering drumming, triumphant leads and guttural death growls to be had. Eight tracks of aggressive death metal just fly by, propelled by their own energy and raw strength.

Moving forward lyrically from their previous 2021 EP release The Beginning, which saw Drouin express a lot of his story and feelings from his time in recovery, Triumph Beyond Adversity explores the effects of the global pandemic on the band, right through to looking at the possibility of World War III whilst putting a positive spin on the situation, taking strength from perseverance, defiant in the face of adversity.

UK post-punk group Naut announce debut album Hunt

Evocative UK post-punk quartet NAUT are proud to announce their debut album Hunt, to be released 24th February via Season of Mist.

Fashioned in the depths of lockdown, the first glimpse of the stunningly dark, haunting album will be revealed next week.

NAUT have also revealed the cover of Hunt, created by the band's own Jack Welch and Gavin Laubscher, and tracklisting below.

In celebration of this news, the band have announced a London live performance this weekend at The Dev, 18th November 2022.

NAUT are a four-piece drum machine rock band from Bristol, whose shared love of classic rock and metal, alongside reverence for the post-punk pioneers of the late 70s and early 80s, makes itself known from the start. Triumphant synths and scything guitars entwine with danceable beats, while driving bass-lines, moving to pounding drums, create a dynamic and shifting rhythm section. The tracks pulse with a raw post-punk energy but always remain danceable and (perhaps most dangerously) catchy. The lyrics touch on mental paralysis, impending doom and divided peoples, and with the path our world is currently on they have become more relevant than ever.

Starting out as an evening sharing riffs in a flat in Bristol, the first tracks for NAUT had their genesis in 2016. Those first riffs, written by Gavin (vocals) & Jack (guitars) grew to become something much more compelling and after that initial moment, the idea of a band was born.

It all rapidly fell into place. NAUT's first show was in September 2017 followed by two shows supporting Grave Pleasures before the year was out, and they entered the studio the following November. Raise the Lights - their debut EP was recorded at RS Studios in Bristol by Jamie Elton (Moss, Amulet, Spite) and was mastered by Orgone Studios (Ulver, Grave Pleasures, Ghost). The intention was to break out into the world and NAUT did just that, with coverage in Kerrang! Magazine as well as a host of smaller blogs, publications and radio.

NAUT's Semele EP was released in November 2019 and was well-received, from UK press and beyond; the band also supported post-punk legends Pink Turns Blue, Discharge, and Orange Goblin and played the warm-up show for Incineration Festival in London alongside Idle Hands

The end of 2019 also saw a change in NAUT’s format, with the departure of their drummer. NAUT had started life as a drum machine project before the addition of Kenny Selway for the debut EP, and after a string of changes, the obvious choice was to return to that format. This opened up new avenues for musical exploration, on and off stage.

With the spectre of a global pandemic looming large, in March 2020 NAUT played their last live appearance of that year in a sold out St Pancras Old Church in London with King Dude.

With that the world of live music went silent.

However NAUT remained active below the surface: 'Threads' and 'Hand in Hand' were released as a double A side 7” in June 2020. With this release NAUT further gained the attention of fans from across the spectrum of dark music - the band featuring in Kerrang!'s Rock Chart and a number of other high profile goth and post-punk playlists.

Not content with releasing these new songs, NAUT began work on their debut album and struck a partnership with Doomstar booking agency, ready for the return of live music.

Now NAUT are excited to have signed with Season of Mist for the release of their debut album, Hunt. The label has come to represent all shades of musical darkness and feels like a strong pairing for NAUT, as although the band are less extreme in their musical approach, dark music in all its facets underlies all that they do.

NAUT can't wait to share this upcoming slab of infectious and pulsing drum machine rock with you all. More news soon.
