Jamie Lenman releases cover of InTechnicolour song 'The Wave'

Jamie Lenman has released a cover of the song 'The Wave' by UK rock quartet InTechnicolour, taken from InTechnicolour's upcoming album Midnight Heavyweight Remixed. A collection of unique takes on songs from their recent album Midnight Heavyweight, the album features remixes and covers by El Moono, CLT DRP, Skin Failure and more.

Stream / pre-save here: https://listen.smallpondrec.com/the-wave-cover

Jamie Lenman commented "I wanted to tackle 'The Wave' cos it had that big melodic chorus, but it's also fairly rocking and all I had was my lil home setup, so the only option I had was to go the other way and do it mega quiet. I always enjoy whacking on a ton of harmonies, the way you can build up a huge wall with just your voice - I don't get to do that much with my own stuff so it was a real pleasure to indulge that. I think it came out great, but really it woulda been tough to wreck it with a tune that good. I'll try harder next time!"

On the remix album, InTechnicolour bassist Vlad Matveikov commented: "Overall the idea behind this album is to continue bringing the original Midnight Heavyweight to people's attention, and to get our friends in music to have a hack at their own take of the songs we have written in lockdown, and that are out for everyone to enjoy now."

The single follows the powerfully immersive version of 'Corner Of Time In The World' by Sugar Horse, which also appears on Midnight Heavyweight Remixed. Watch the visualiser here: https://youtu.be/66L4JjAFxII

Also appearing on Midnight Heavyweight Remixed are Bully Lunn, Lambrini Girls, Frauds and God Alone, full track list is below.

Midnight Heavyweight Remixed marks the final release for the Small Pond label, which has decided to close after seven years.

Belgian punks Captain Kaiser release new single 'DRIVE'

Belgian punks Captain Kaiser are delighted to share with the world their huge new single 'DRIVE', released today via [PIAS].

'DRIVE', produced by Jay Maas (Defeater, Title Fight, Death Of A Nation), can be streamed here: https://captainkaiser.ffm.to/drive

Check out the video for 'DRIVE' here: https://youtu.be/jKEnf85I29w

Captain Kaiser's vocalist Sascha Vansant comments: "DRIVE” is about that moment I took the car to get away from the reality of losing someone I dearly loved. With the song we're taking a different direction in our sound and working together with someone like Jay Maas was a major help to create a more mature- sounding track."

One stage at a time, Captain Kaiser have conquered the punk scene while driving the van, celebrating life and making the walls drip with sweat.

The band have grown, but that word means more than bigger rooms or stages. It refers to a new stage in their musical development, a level of emotional depth they’ve never explored before. Captain Kaiser sound more raw and pure than ever, without having lost their knack for catchy melodies.

Hitting perfectly the boundaries between hardcore and post-punk, the band's newest single lets you just feel it, right there where it hurts. It is the loud and clear announcement for a new phase in Captain Kaiser's life. A punchier, heavier and more emotional sound following the passing of vocalist and frontman Sascha's mother - 'DRIVE' perfectly encapsulates the pain of loss and the feeling of driving senselessly into nothingness.

Captain Kaiser will be touring England shortly.

ABOUT POWERWOLF:

The story of POWERWOLF, beginning in 2004, reads like a true fairytale, but is the result of the most hard-working and entertaining live band on the heavy metal planet. POWERWOLF has not only received plenty of Gold and Platinum awards to date, but numerous releases have entered the official German album charts at the top position of #1. With Blessed & Possessed (2015), POWERWOLF achieved Gold status (in the Czech Republic) for the first time, while its predecessor, Preachers Of The Night (2013), hit the official German album charts at #1, and the incredible DVD, The Metal Mass (2016), came in at #1 of the German DVD-Charts. POWERWOLF's holy mass in the name of heavy metal is unstoppable – their latest magnum opus, The Sacrament of Sin (2018), again entered the album charts at #1. The accompanying, almost completely sold out Wolfsnächte headline tour – in which POWERWOLF headlined large venues with their phenomenal stage performances – became a single major triumph, as well as the numerous summer festival shows in which crowds were thrilled and completely captivated by the Wolves and their unique, (un)holy metal mass. With the new studio album, Call Of The Wild, and the Wolfsnächte 2021 tour charging through the largest halls in Europe, 2021 will again be a year completely under the sign of the wolf pack.

Existentialist share new single 'Embers Upon Calvary'

Blackened death metal outfit Existentialist have shared their new single 'Embers Upon Calvary'. The vicious track marks their first release through US label Seek and Strike, to which the Essex-based quintet are newly signed. Featuring Jason Evans (Ingested) on guest vocals, 'Embers Upon Cavalry' showcases what extreme metal fans can expect from the band's upcoming new album The Heretic, due for release 28th April.

Watch the video here: https://youtu.be/JoToVl7zMlM

Stream the song here: https://linktr.ee/existentialist

Existentialist comment: "We chose the track, 'Embers Upon Calvary,' as our first single because it's brutal and hits hard from the start. Musically, it sums up our style, as there's bits of everything we do in the one track. Plus, each of us get a chance to show off a bit of musicianship. Having Jason on the track was a later decision. A couple of us got talking to him when we played Bloodstock and we thought, this track has some really slammy bits in. Jason 'The Slam King' would sound so good, so it happened."

"Lyrically speaking, the track starts where our protagonist declares war against their god by burning the most holy site to the ground and massing an army of non-believers. The deeper message in the track references how religion encourages you to ignore or omit knowledge in order to preserve the core teachings. Similarly to the track, the video was designed to be as in-your-face as possible in order to create an oppressive hell-like feel, both dark and blasphemous."

"When searching for a label, we were specifically looking for was a label who has range.
Seek and Strike has a really eclectic mix of metal bands with a variety of sounds. We also wanted to work with someone who gives the artists autonomy to forge their own style, rather than having a commercially motivated input. Seek and Strike gave us the flexibility over release schedules and artistry that was really desirable, alongside a global promotion. We’re very excited about this partnership and here we go."

Essex-based Existentialist are a five-piece blackened death metal band who are wholly cementing themselves as serious players in the scene. Their debut album Prophet of Ignorance, released in 2020, demonstrates the band's technicality, musicianship and above all, heaviness. The combination of the dark vocals, aggressive guitars, intense drumming and sinister orchestral sections creates a beautifully morbid blend of noise. The energy the quintet bring to their performances makes this band one not to miss.

Formed in 2015 by Jonny (guitar) and Olly (drums), they were later joined in 2018 by Phill (bass) and Sam (lead guitar). The line-up was completed in 2019 with the addition of vocalist Patty, allowing the release of the debut album Prophet of Ignorance in December 2020. A wide range of influences have helped the band to develop a complex sound, drawing from a variety of genres.

Extreme metal sci-fi group Wallowing announce new album; stream new single 'Flesh and Steel'

photo sighting by a photographer who prefers to remain anonymous

One of the UK underground's most fascinating groups, the sci-fi extreme metal quintet, Wallowing, have announced details of their new album Earth Reaper, to be released 28th April via Church Road Records.

Wallowing have also released their new video for the track 'Flesh and Steel'.

Watch the video here: https://youtu.be/Q9dDYqkUJDQ

Pre-order here: https://bfan.link/earth-reaper

Labelled a must-see band in the flesh, the faceless Wallowing are as much a conceptual multimedia art project as a band. Known for their intense and atmospheric live show, endless smoke machine, duel lasers, all-black space suits, Wallowing have also released hand-crafted action figures, trading cards, an alternate reality game, and comic book.

Wallowing dive further into their sci-fi reality with the new video 'Flesh and Steel', the opening chapter to their second concept album, Earth Reaper. A sonic introduction to the band, the album, and one of the story's main characters; a mysterious outcast living amongst a group of unlikely and unearthly beings. Yearning to uncover the truth behind her own existence, the outcast makes a risky attempt to break free from her company and face the reality of the dead planet they reside on.

Continuing the themes on Wallowing's acclaimed debut Planet Loss (2019), Earth Reaper sees the listener diving into a bleak universe plagued by evil, oppressive rule.

A tale of growth and discovery, an epic journey to uncover the real truth behind the dying planet, Earth Reaper is a tale of hope born from despair, influenced by real-world topics including the current political climate, racism and classism.

Written in two halves, the first six tracks of the album, approximately 22 minutes, is the prologue to the second half, the mighty title track 'Earth Reaper', itself 22 minutes. Instrumental and lyric motifs represent various characters and locations, seamlessly weaved into the endlessly-evolving doom-laden narrative. Needless to say, Earth Reaper is an intense experience - a heavily atmospheric and lovingly-detailed sonic journey akin to the most epic of film scores which have inspired it.

Such an immersive approach has seen Wallowing garner a strong following of dedicated fans, eager to escape. Finding their feet in the expanded metal and sci-fi communities throughout the COVID pandemic, the group have since toured the UK twice, performed internationally for the first time, released a split EP and re-released their debut in Asia via Gutless Productions.

In their time as a group, Wallowing have performed at Desertfest, Dreadfest, alongside Black Tongue and Wiegedood, and garnered early praise from Kerrang!, Clash, and ViceWallowing are also the first metal group to perform in a Waterstone's.

Instrumental psych/stoner trio Kanaan announce new album and stream new single

Instrumental stoner psych trio Kanaan have announced their new album, Downpour, to be released 5th May via Jansen Records.

The brilliantly raucous group have also released their first single from the record, the transcendental 'Amazon', featuring the famed Norwegian jazz guitarist Hedvig Mollestad.

Stream 'Amazon' and pre-order Downpour here: https://orcd.co/amazon-kanaan

The band comment: "'Amazon' is possibly the most groovy track we’ve done. Perfect for cruising on the highway with the trunk full of amps, and featuring Norway’s very own guitar hero Hedvig Mollestad."

Kanaan will be touring the triumphant new album in May. Full dates as follows:

May 4: NO Trondheim, Lokal Scene
May 5: NO Oslo, Parktreatret
May 6: NO Bergen, Hulen
May 17: DK Copenhagen, Stengade
May 18: DE Kiel, Schaubude
May 19: DE Berlin, Desertfest Berlin
May 20: DE Munich, Outdoor Opening
May 21: AT Vienna, Chelsea
May 22: HU Budapest, Dürer Kert
May 24: DE Kassel, Goldgrube
May 25: DE Hamburg, Bar 227
May 26: DK Esbjerg, Esbjerg Fuzztival
May 27: SE Malmö, Plan B
Aug 12: PT Moledo, Sonic Blast Festival
Aug 26: BE Rillaar, Down The Hill Festival

Kanaan produce so much music that their fuzz pedals are hardly switched off between each practice session. Once again, the young power trio now step out of the rehearsal room, and with them in tow is the brand new album Downpour.

It’s not difficult to hear that this is a continuation of their last album, Earthbound (2021, Jansen Records). Indeed, many of the ideas on the new album came about when they recorded their previous record in Athletic Sound in Halden. The heaviest songs on the album are a continuation of the idea of "The Great Riff" and the feeling of triumphant ecstasy when one good riff is replaced by another. Bands like Kyuss, MC5, Sleep and Hawkwind are still great sources of inspiration – while Needlepoint and Dungen are also important markers for the more melodic material on the album.

You truly have to hold tight and not fall out of your chair when Kanaan blast out the monster riffs on songs like 'Orbit', 'Solaris pt. 2' and not least 'Amazon', the new single released today, where they are joined by one of Norway's most kick-ass guitarists, Hedvig Mollestad. All three members of the band have long been fans of Mollestad and her music, and the fact that she is on their record is a dream come true.

The band themselves say they feel that the chemistry and songwriting on this record, to a greater extent, allows them to really own the rock language that they flirted with on Earthbound, and it feels like a worthy sequel to a record that has since become very important in the band’s history. It’s hard not to agree with that.

Since Kanaan released their fourth album Earthbound on Jansen Records in November 2021, they’ve also managed to release the 27-minute long single 'Beyond' and the session album Diversions vol. 1 – Softly through Sunshine. There are no days off in the calendars of Eskild Myrvoll, Ingvald André Vassbø and Ask Vatn Strøm

In terms of guitar excellence Jakub can be compared to his peers Plini, Aaron Marshall (Intervals), Chon and Polyphia, but his sound is more aligned with his wide range of influences, including The 1975, Bon Iver and John Hopkins

Jakub has toured the world far and wide as the guitarist in prog-metal band DispersE, and in 2019 he took his solo project live, touring as support to Plini throughout Europe.
