After much anticipation, modern heavy symphonic titans, KAMELOT, announced the upcoming release of their most introspective, uplifting, vital release to date - their first full-length in five years, The Awakening, out 17th March 2023 via Napalm RecordsThe Awakening enters the KAMELOT legacy as their most massive and diverse offering yet - mixing symphonic, gothic, melodic, progressive and power metal styles while yielding some of the heaviest tracks in the band's history.

Following the release of the album's widely-lauded debut single, 'One More Flag in the Ground', today, the band have released their operatic second single, 'Opus of the Night (Ghost Requiem)', featuring Grammy-nominated, soundtrack-featured cellist Tina Guo. Presented with a new lyric video, the track is an exciting, thematic continuation of a story born on 2007’s Ghost Opera album, celebrating the healing impact music has on the human heart and mind.

KAMELOT vocalist Tommy Karevik offers: "The music of KAMELOT has always carried the message of hope, light and a feeling of resolution. This story is a prime example of that. 'Opus of the Night' honors the traditional dark and melodic sound of the band while bringing some new and exciting elements to the table."

Having reigned supreme with the release of internationally top-charting melodic metal pinnacles such as The Fourth Legacy (1999), The Black Halo (2005), Silverthorn (2012), Haven (2015, #1 US Hard Rock Albums), and most recently 2018’s acclaimed The Shadow Theory (#2 US Hard Music Albums). KAMELOT’s intense brand of ultramodern gothic and symphonic theatricality is amplified further and with more emotionality than ever on The Awakening.

Noir pop quartet The Nightmares announce debut album and release new single 'Heartless'

Welsh noir pop outfit The Nightmares are proud to unveil their debut album, Séance, to be released 7th April via Venn Records (UK and Europe) and Equal Vision Records (USA and RoW).

In celebration of the news, the quartet have released their anti-Valentine's single, the fittingly-named 'Heartless'.

The band comment: "Life can feel relentless… like you’re constantly fighting against the tide. And after experiencing heartbreak, it’s easy to grow cold. This can often be perceived by others as being heartless. However, the reality is it takes an awful lot to learn to trust again once that bond has been broken. ‘Heartless’ is a song about learning to trust someone again."

On their debut album, bassist Benjamin T. Mainwaring states: "Séance is a record born out of a shared love of the macabre… a longing to express the darker thoughts and deeper emotions of life. Channelled through the practise of attempted communication with spirits from beyond this world."

"We started to dip our toes into the world of the séance, and the experiences we went through would inform the writing of the record.

"I am totally convinced that what happened in these experiments were real. And they have stuck with me. I have nothing but respect for the spirits and I understand the gravity and weight that comes with communication with other worlds. It is not to be taken lightly.”

Fresh from their support of post-hardcore heavyweights Casey, The Nightmares will be touring Séance at the following shows:

Co-headline with Miss Vincent:

Apr 19: Southampton Joiners
Apr 20: Newcastle Little Buildings
Apr 21: Leeds Boom
Apr 22: Newport The Westgate Hotel
Apr 23: Kingston Fighting Cocks

Forming in 2018, The Nightmares are as inspired by shared musical passions - The Cure, Placebo, Interpol - as they are by the art of seances themselves. Centred on the local music scene of Newport, South Wales, the quartet quickly embarked on their first UK tours in 2019, including supporting local legends Holding Absence. The Nightmares have also toured with Tiger Army, Aaron West and the Roaring Twenties, Bleak Soul, and supported Salem and Bad Nerves, among others.

Plans for future touring, along with the rest of the world, were derailed by the COVID pandemic. Instead, then, The Nightmares turned to writing music and experimenting with seances - and what unfolded during these long nights had a lasting effect on the band.

The noir pop quartet's recurring themes of death, love and mourning have already chimed with fans and critics alike, including early support from The i Paper, Clash, Kerrang! and more. Elements of The Cure, Salem and Interpol clash and collide throughout Séance, and listen out for a special guest feature from Creeper / Salem's Will Gould on track six, 'Murder Season'.

The Nightmares are:
Adam Parslow (Lead Vocals, Guitar)
Eleanor Coburn (Keys, Vocals)
Benjamin T. Mainwaring (Bass)
James Mattock (Drums, Backing Vocals)

Newcastle metalcore quartet Creak share new single 'Doomed'

Newcastle metalcore outfit Creak have shared their new single 'Doomed'. A lyrical reflection on trauma and family illness, the track blends chaotic dissonance and a frantic vocal delivery with eery, atmospheric soundscapes. Directed by Zak Pinchin, the music video was inspired by David Lynch's cinematography and visual aesthetic.

Watch the video here: https://youtu.be/RL8lATe-ZKc

Stream the song here: https://distrokid.com/hyperfollow/creak/doomed

Vocalist Jack Dunn comments: "Lyrically, 'Doomed' is based around the trauma of having a family member be diagnosed with a serious illness, and the aftermath of facing such a difficult situation. For me personally it relates to my own mother being diagnosed with cancer and the hole I fell into around the time I found out. During that time period it really felt like everything around me was falling apart, and that my world was ending."

"We know family illness is something a lot of people have had to face, and we wanted to try and express some of those harder feelings that come with that process to show people they’re not alone with how they are feeling or what they are going through."

"Conceptually and visually, the song was inspired by a lot of arthouse horror films, and video games. We were watching a lot of David Lynch films such as Eraserhead, and his short films, and we really thought that the hopeless and desperate feel of those related to what we where trying to put across. Other than that, games like Silent Hill, and shows such as Neon Genesis were big inspirations for us during the writing period and when it came to putting all of the pieces together."

Hailed by Kerrang! Radio's Alex Baker as "one the most exciting heavy bands on planet Earth right now"Creak are Newcastle’s newest offering of nu-metal infused metalcore. The chaotic four-piece brings unbridled energy, and a barrage of eerie soundscapes together in an onslaught of sound akin to the likes of Vein, Oceans Ate Alaska and Alpha Wolf. The band have spent the past few months touring relentlessly, appearing at 2000 Trees, UK Techfest and Burn it Down Festival, as well as supporting the likes of God Complex, Palm Reader and Graphic Nature. Creak look to kick off a very busy 2023 with their new single 'Doomed'.

'Demure' is the first look at HERIOT's next era following their triumphant debut EP, Profound Morality (released April 2022 via Church Road Records). Globally critically-acclaimed, the band immediately performed to packed tents at Download Festival, 2000trees, BloodstockArcTanGent, gathering a legion of fans in the process.

Vocalist/guitarist Debbie Gough comments on 'Demure': "'Demure' depicts the conflict of remaining integral in a world overwhelmed by scrutiny. It sheds light on the loss of being an individual while attempting the unattainable pursuit of neutrality. This is the first new music released since our debut EP, Profound Morality, and opens a new era for HERIOT which we are very excited to begin!’

HERIOT then went on to tour with Zeal & Ardor and Boston Manor, displaying a range few new bands can emulate. Fully-focused and with a razor-sharp edge, the awe-inspiring double-vocal attack of Jake Packer and Debbie Gough is all-conquering; the titanic support of Erhan Alman (guitar) and Julian Gage (drums) rock-solid.

HERIOT have deservedly been grabbing attention with all four pairs of hands, weaponising metallic sludge and hardcore, unholy levels of distortion, speed and gut-punching talent. Elements of NailsKnocked LooseCode Orange, and Vein.fm combine and collide to exhilarating effect, to create a new sound that is truly groundbreaking, fully worthy of the notice the band are achieving.

In their short recent history HERIOT have caught the attention of Metal Hammer, Rock Sound, Brooklyn Vegan, Kerrang!, Revolver, and Knotfest, among many others, "one of the most promising young bands in modern metalcore", and "probably the best new metal band in Britain".

US metal quartet Of Virtue release new single 'A.N.X.I.E.T.Y.'

US metal quartet Of Virtue have unveiled a video for new single 'A.N.X.I.E.T.Y.', out now via Arising Empire.

Produced by Carson Slovak and Grant McFarland (August Burns Red, Polaris, Hollow Front), additional production by Chris Shifflett, mixed and mastered by Dan Braunstein, known for his work for Spiritbox, Dayseeker, Volumes - this heavy new material by modern metal quartet Of Virtue hits you straight in the face.

On the single, vocalist Tyler Ennis comments: "This song is about being uncomfortable in your own skin and being so far in your own head that you allow outside factors to break you down. While you may know you need to change, not knowing how, not wanting to ask for help, not allowing yourself to be vulnerable to change - all due to the fear of the unknown, the anxiety - that's what paralyzes us. This all isn't talked about enough because of guilt or shame. The last few years have been very difficult for a lot of people, including us, for this reason - so we decided to speak up in case anyone felt the same way."

Progression, or more generally, change, is a constant in music; in order to adapt and survive, you must grow and develop - and no band knows that more than midwestern metal act Of Virtue. What began as a humble, promising metalcore act born from the blistering chill and barren fields of mid-Michigan has erupted into an internationally recognised and critically acclaimed alternative powerhouse.

Playing this year's UK Tech Fest, Summer Breeze, Fallen Fortress, 6K Fest and Upheaval festival and accruing a staggering 3.5 million plus streams on their new SINNER EP on Spotify alone, Of Virtue’s growth is nothing short of jaw dropping.

Catch them live on the following dates this summer:

23.06. 6k Fest - Liege, BE
02.07. UK Tech Fest - Newark On Trent, UK
15.07. UpHeaval - Grand Rapids, MI, USA
17.08. Summer Breeze - Dinkelsbeuhl, DE
26.08. Fallen Fortress - Bad Dürkheim, DE

Of Virtue combine an eclectic taste for the melodic with a catchy and ethereal foundation in heavy music, a penchant for punishing breakdowns, and immolating riffs. They define themselves as a multifaceted, diverse and engaging act that draws on influence from metal and alternative music of all genres, to create something that any type of fan can fall in love with.

Of Virtue were formed in 2008 and catapulted themselves into the Michigan metalcore scene in 2009 with their debut EP To Breathe Again. Combining elements of melodic hardcore and metalcore into a mosh-friendly and energetic amalgam, the band almost instantaneously cemented themselves as a staple within their local scene.

In the months that would follow, the band would create and release their debut full-length record, Heartsounds (2011), followed by an extensive regional touring cycle. Heartsounds saw Of Virtue expand on their sound with lyrics speaking of positivity and determination, all of which was underscored by a blend of metalcore that was both vicious yet passionate and inspiring. By 2015, the band would release Salvation, a sprawling and ambitious example of meticulous melodic metalcore which would earn them nationwide attention as a promising, prodigally talented metal act. Shortly thereafter, Of Virtue released their third full length record, What Defines You in 2019.

What Defines You saw a marked incorporation of alternative rock and hard rock into their backbone of bold, robust metalcore with an overwhelmingly positive message. The result was a release that would launch them into the stratosphere of heavy music. Even in the setting of a global pandemic, Of Virtue continue to blossom worldwide, accruing new listeners and fans in countries tens of thousands of miles away and expanding their reach even in a time where live performances were all but impossible.

We live in a fantasy, but not one of our own choosing. It is a dark and frigid world, animated by power, thrills, and the undying spirit of those who have nothing but each other left in the struggle to get by. This is the world of Poison Ruïn’s Härvest; the only way out is through.

Evoking a rich tapestry of ice-caked forests, peasant revolts, and silent knights, Poison Ruïn stab at the pulsing heart of what it means to live under the permanent midnight of contemporary life. Härvest gazes at the world with a sense of grave seriousness, its stare softened only by the alluring seduction of a dream world’s open-ended possibility. These songs move with a type of uncanny confidence, assembling an array of references to past styles and sensibilities that collapse in on one another, congealing into a truly unique sonic landscape.

Poison Ruïn have constructed a fantasy world of a better future. They do not flinch in the face of darkness or peddle in empty utopian gestures, but rather harness the energies of revenge and comradery to stoke the desire for a better world made material.

Its title track interplays between softly transitory instrumentals and sonic barrages, juxtaposing piano passages against a drawling, sitting-on-the-edge-of-the-world vocal line. Frantic instrumentals race forward with bold highs, shifting effortlessly from urgent funeral marches to subtly power pop inflected choruses. 'Härvest' is a metaphor for workers’ struggle - a bitter calls to arms.

With Härvest, Poison Ruïn align their sonic palette to their godless, medieval-inflected aesthetic symbolism, creating a record which strikes with an assured sense of blackened harmony.

“I’ve always found fantasy tropes to be incredibly evocative,” vocalist/guitarist Mac Kennedy notes, “that said, even though they are a set of symbols that seem to speak to most people of our generation, they are often either apolitical or co-opted for incredibly backwards politics.” With Härvest’s lyrics and imagery, Kennedy reworks fantasy imagery as a series of totems for the downtrodden, stripping it of its escapist tendencies and retooling it as a rich metaphor for the collective struggle over our shared reality: “Instead of knights in shining armor and dragons, it’s a peasant revolt,” he explains, “I’m all for protest songs, but with this band I’ve found that sometimes your message can reach a greater audience if you imbue it with a certain interactive, almost magical realist element.”

These are not superficial or self-aggrandising political statements. Rather, Poison Ruïn stares into the abyss of present-day life with a sober and empathetic outlook, portraying our cracked reality as a complex and difficult to parse miasma of competing desires.

Philadelphia’s Poison Ruïn first emerged in April of 2020 with their eponymous EP, which was followed shortly by a second eponymous EP the following February, both self-released. While they share a certain affinity for rough-around-the-edges, lo-fidelity stones with their compatriots Devil Master and Sheer Mag, Poison Ruïn want things bleaker. The up-tempo guitar heroics of their first two EPs (which were collectively released as a self-titled LP in February of 2021) have been dragged through the trenches, emerging as a heavy morass of breathless gloom. With Härvest, Poison Ruïn have constructed a richly chilling fable out of modern living. Their tale is as lurid as it is seductive, as much a promising fantasy as it is a dreary portrait of reality itself.

Poison Ruïn’s Relapse debut Härvest was mastered by Arthur Rizk. It sees its release on 14th April alongside the reissue of their eponymous 2021 LP which has established the band as one of punk and the underground’s newest beloved treasures. Poison Ruïn will tour extensively this year. They’ve confirmed several U.S. dates including SXSW, NYC and a hometown PHL release show. In April they head to EU / UK for a full run including a performance at Roadburn.

Rock trio PLAIINS launch attack on the establishment with 'POLIDICKS' single

Vocalist / guitarist Chris Reardon comments on the single: "The genesis of the song was written roughly back in February last year. The words and melody for the opening verses came to me one morning in bed one after feeling pretty frustrated by the situation back in the UK and the joke that is the Conservative party. It was around the time that the Sue Gray report came out, which of course all the public knew was a joke anyway, we all saw the photos in the news and of course.....nothing really happened after that report and Boris and his cronies carried on talking their waffle of nonsense. I had already, as many of us, been feeling at a loss with the government.

"The writing then made me dig in deeper (our education system, media lying and manipulation for example). I wanted to also talk about how I feel that our political system doesn't truly represent our values, beliefs and what is best for our country, community and the world at large. It seems like whether its the Labour or Tory it doesn't matter, I vote Green and that also in many respects in our how system works doesn't make much of a difference.

"I really saw with the Tories under Boris that all he really cared about was what was written about him, not policy, the public or the country. And with Brexit also in my mind, it seemed that the news was just as much to blame for the confusion and lies. As it all turns out through the lies of both major news outlets and the government we're in a right pickle at the moment (now with the IMF prediction only furthering worry in our country)."

Founded in 2021 PLAIINS is an in-your-face rock band that pull influences from punk, alternative rock, indie and metal that have quickly grown to prominence on the underground circuit with their infectious hooks, hard hitting lyrics and huge sound.

Chris Reardon from the UK / Hong Kong (vocals / guitars), Tal Pinhas from Israel (bass / guitars) and David “Dizzy” Suhlrie from Germany (drums) have a chemistry that concocts songs with power, aggression, big riffs and infectious hooks, that captivate audiences with their uniqueness. Lyrically the band confronts issues in politics, inequality, heartbreak, and mental health, inspired by their diverse range of cultural perspectives.

Since the release of their first single 'The Wolf' in April 2022, PLAIINS have been consistently added to some of the world’s biggest playlists on Spotify including All New Rock, All New Punk, Fresh Finds Rock and Alternarock. PLAIINS were quickly added to BBC Introducing’s new favourites with frequent airplay and their single 'C-A-P-I-T-A-L' released in December 2022, gained ‘Track Of The Week’. The band's previous single continue their momentum with radio play across UK, Germany, Switzerland, Austria and Canada.

2022 saw the band hit the live circuit, with a highlight supporting Press Club, playing in Berlin to a sold out crowd. 2023 promises to be a big year for PLAIINS with more new music and touring on the horizon. More news soon.

Lead vocalist and guitarist Igor Sydorenko comments: "We previewed 'Get What You Deserve' live on our autumn dates in 2022 and all the people absolutely loved it, even without hearing the studio version first! I love how the first and the last parts are almost the same riff, but then you also have this weird atmospheric breakdown in the middle. The lyrics were written with an environmental message in mind, but I guess they could be taken differently now... Either way, please enjoy this track and expect it to be the main set closer during our Father Light tour!"

'Get What You Deserve' follows previous singles 'Thoughts and Prayers' 'CON' and 'Porcelain'.
