Prog metal virtuoso guitarist Syrek shares video for 'I Think It's a Monster'

Prog metal virtuoso guitarist Syrek has shared a new music video for his single 'I Think It's a Monster'. The song, an eight-minute epic musical journey, is one of the stand-out tracks from Syrek's latest concept album Story. The video features the album's all-star lineup, including Marco Minnemann and Bryan Beller (The Aristocrats), Mohini Dey and Lalle Larsson.

Watch the video here: https://youtu.be/u4aFAAmy3vk

Stream the song here: https://linktr.ee/syrek

Syrek comments:  "At some point, I had the story of Story coming together and I had a bunch of tunes written, but I didn’t have a song to jump out towards the beginning of the album, to grab people’s attention and bring them into this world i had created. Something that would set the tone of the album and introduce not only the characters of the story, but the characters playing the music of the story. So I set out to write a song that would do just that. After I had written the intro to 'I Think It's a Monster', I jokingly thought “man, this is really turning out to be a monster”, and then it suddenly came to me that the characters in Story, as one of their first experiences too, encounter a big monster. The song pretty much wrote itself from that point. It was a really cool and satisfying way to write, with the music and the story both helping to navigate each other."

Terry Syrek is among the most technically refined and sophisticated progressive rock guitar players out there. His strong compositional skills and unmistakably unique guitar sound are what make him stand out beyond the technique and speed. Terry is internationally renowned within the instrumental prog rock circles and is highly respected by his peers for his impressive, virtuosic command of the instrument, his work ethic, and his overall abilities and sensibility as a musician.

As a recording artist, he has released four full-length albums: Obscura (2001), Aum (2005), Machine Elves (2012) and Story (2021). His previous release, Aum, debuted on the Guitar Nine sales charts as the top seller in all four categories in which it was placed. Terry’s compositions have also appeared on numerous compilation albums, alongside guitarists Steve Vai, Marty Friedman, Paul Gilbert, Guthrie Govan, and Ron 'Bumblefoot' Thal.

Terry has performed with the likes of Paul Gilbert (Mr. Big, Racer X), Allan Holdsworth, John Petrucci (Dream Theater), Marty Friedman (Megadeth), Zakk Wylde (Ozzy Osbourne, Black Label Society), Brett Garsed, Alex Skolnick (Testament), Reb Beach (Dokken, Whitesnake,Winger), Vinnie Moore (UFO), Ty Tabor (King’s X), Jon Finn (Boston Pops, Berklee Faculty) and the multi-platinum selling Trans-Siberian Orchestra.

The virtuoso guitarist has featured in Axe Magazine, Guitar Magazine, Guitar One, Guitar Player, Guitar for the Practicing Musician, Guitar TechniquesPremier Guitar, and the New York Times.

Anchor Lane share new video for single 'Choke'

Glasgow-based alt-rock trio Anchor Lane have shared a lyric video for their single 'Choke'. The third and final single from the band's new album Call This A Reality? shows off what Anchor Lane do best: fast, pulsating rhythms, aggressive guitars and unshakeable vocal hooks.

If suffering in your bad habits and being forever alone is what keeps finding you then it must be fate. Dwell in your misery. Give in. Give in. Give in."

Anchor Lane's new album Call This A Reality? was produced by Bruce Rintoul (Twin Atlantic, Fatherson, Vukovi). The album has received support from BBC Radio One through Daniel P. Carter and Alyx Holcombe, as well as plays on BBC Radio Scotland, a 'Track of the Week' on Planet Rock Radio, and a playlist addition on Primordial Radio. It also went straight into four top 10 chart positions within its first week of release, including the Official Rock and Metal Chart and the Scottish Albums Chart.

They have also released their captivating new single 'Breach'. This new track is the band’s first official offering introducing new female vocalist Sanna Solanterä (ex-Fireproven), who now joins longtime male vocalist, Janne Piela, for a stunning dual attack. My Favourite Nemesis comment:  "Our new track, ‘Breach,' is about facing your anxieties, finding inner peace and getting in touch with your spiritual self. Its music video gives viewers the first look at our new line-up and is a great visual live performance. On this record, people can expect great variation of songs it loosely follows a continuous story-line from start to finish. We aimed for a more streamlined approach, as compared to our previous releases. We also dialed down on some of the more progressive elements and went with more traditional song structures and hooks. Eidolon is a perfect album for fans of Architects, ERRA and Bleed From Within."

Since 2017, My Favourite Nemesis have gained a lot of attention across the Finnish modern metal scene with their catchy guitar riffs and wide variation of instrumental and vocal arrangements. The band’s explosive live performances have successfully convinced audiences in Finland and abroad - notably through two sold out shows with Swedish metal band Dead By April in Finland, and a German tour with SuffocationMy Favourite Nemesis are now ready to bring their unique brand of heavy metal excellence to a world-wide audience.

Half Me release debut album SOMA and release video for new single 'I Am But A Guest In Exile'

German metal quintet Half Me have released their debut album SOMA, out now via Arising Empire. To mark the occasion, the band have also released a video for their new single 'I Am But A Guest In Exile'.

Check out the video for 'I Am But A Guest In Exile' here: https://youtu.be/VKjWRTgfyZ0

Stream/purchase SOMA here: https://arisingempire.com/soma

The band comment on the single:

"'I Am But A Guest In Exile' is leading into the final act of the album. The fear of being replaced is getting out of hand and delusion is spiralling out of control. The entity that has accompanied them for so long is beginning to force itself onto the protagonist. Has it already taken over? There’s no way to determine from the outside so is it even possible to notice from within? While suffering from sleep withdrawal and schizophrenic episodes the protagonist is repeating their mantra to stay in control: Don’t black out."

Formed in Hamburg in 2018, Half Me - guitarists Chris and Julius, vocalist Chris, drummer Max and bassist Tobias - are one of the latest additions to the Arising Empire roster. Musically, Half Me blend a modern rendition of metal and hardcore with highlights of 90s nu-metal. Pounding riffs and breakdowns are accompanied by brutal, yet sometimes elegant, vocals that all balance together to formulate the band’s own distinctive sound.

In the space of just two years, Half Me have made an impact in the music scene by self-producing their music and videos, displaying their intensive and energetic demeanour. Debuting with four singles initially, it was their their single 'Exitwound' (featuring Jack Bergin of Void of Vision) that gave the group a breakthrough and landed the band in the spotlight of Knotfest’s Countdown to Oblivion.

Riding the high of their recent success, Half Me’s highly anticipated debut album SOMA is finally unveiled and it’s very much worth the wait.

Alt-pop trio Exploring Birdsong release new single 'Bear The Weight'

Acclaimed young alt-pop/prog trio Exploring Birdsong have revealed their new single/video 'Bear The Weight', from their long-awaited second EP, Dancing in the Face of Danger, to be released 24th March via Long Branch Records.

Watch the video to 'Bear The Weight' here:
https://youtu.be/vg3PMTmUOvM

Stream the single and pre-order the new EP here:
https://exploringbirdsong.lnk.to/dancinginthefaceofdanger

The band comment:

"'Bear the Weight' has gone through a few different structure changes since we first formed the skeleton for the song back in 2019, but contains one of our collective favourite choruses. Lyrically it is one of the conceptual on the record; it is written from the perspective of one of thousands of workers, working on a building / structure of massive scale against their will. They are merely a number, and the only thing to relieve them of their duties is death - however they know they will only be replaced by someone else, so to prevent someone going through what they have experienced, they continue. ‘We bear the weight, to defend the man who would fall in your place’."

A beautifully curious blend of pop-sensibility, delicacy, experimentation and heaviness. British piano-led, guitar-less trio Exploring Birdsong are paving their own musical path with their new record Dancing in the Face of Danger.

Their acclaimed 2019 debut EP The Thing With Feathers - a concept release centred on the Seamus Heaney poem ‘Bye Child’ and the story of Kevin Halfpenny, one of the most bizarre cases of child cruelty ever recorded - caught the eyes of key players in the UK press (Prog magazine, Kerrang! Magazine, Classic Rock Magazine) and achieved two Progressive Music Awards nominations in the same year.

Dancing in the Face of Danger, recorded and mixed at Northstone Studios, Bridgend, builds on the musical foundations of The Thing With Feathers. The five-track EP has an evolutionary growth; synthesizers and a live string section add texture and gravity to the piano-led core, and whilst the record isn’t conventionally conceptual, lyrically, the band describe each track as ‘having its own tale to tell’.

Rarely are new groups as exciting, talented or unique as Exploring Birdsong. Straddling pop, progressive rock and uncategorisable genre-blending beauty, the band are unplaceable for the most part, but bring to mind elements of Kate BushSleep Token and Agent Fresco.

Rarely too do you hear voices as captivating as frontwoman Lynsey Ward’s. Powerful, controlled, and spine-chillingly tender, Lynsey’s vocals help mark Exploring Birdsong as a prospect to watch, from the release of their acclaimed debut The Thing With Feathers (2019, Long Branch Records) to 2023's EP Dancing in the Face of Danger.

The young group most recently made their European debut at Euroblast festival (Cologne, DE) - their first live performance since their five city inaugural headline tour across the UK in September 2021, including London, Manchester and Birmingham, and following the successful support tours with the likes of Sleep Token and Thank You Scientist

Guitarist / vocalist Paul Visser comments: "We’re so stoked about the love everyone’s been showing for 'Deny The Sun'! We hope the guitarists out there are enjoying the riff - it was the first thing I wrote on the red Solar you see in this playthrough. Big thanks to both Solar and Neural DSP for being awesome!".

On new album Tempus Veritas, Paul continues: "Interwoven with the fabric of our history as a species are countless opportunities for stories. Little pieces of imagined narrative, set within events we all collectively know as historical, that seek to explore what it means to be human - this is the idea behind Tempus Veritas. Whereas Semaphore looked to the future, this record reinvents the past, wondering what it was like to be inside the mind of a person living through times of consequence. Musically, we continue to seek the boundary between the savagely technical and the undeniably beautiful and attempt to push it as far as possible. We poured our entire creative beings into making this album - we sincerely hope you enjoy it."

Catch the band at this year's Portals festival alongside Mono, And So I Watch You From Afar and many more, on 27th-28th May in London. More live dates to be announced soon.

Black Orchid Empire create huge, memorable rock music that combines heavy-hitting savagery with intense melodic beauty. Their technical, fearlessly complex grooves and gigantic sing-along choruses have already earned them a widespread fanbase.

A ferociously tight live band, Black Orchid Empire have toured Europe and the UK extensively, supporting Skunk Anansie, HED p.e, INME and Black Map as well as festival slots at Download, Standon Calling and Planet Rockstock. Black Orchid Empire have sealed the bands reputation as a force to be reckoned with.

Having released their debut album Archetype (2016) to universal acclaim, Black Orchid Empire signed with German label Long Branch Records to release the follow up albums Yugen (2018) and Semaphore (2020). Both albums received stellar reviews and over 1,000,000+ combined streams.

Tempus Veritas is a collection of stories that seeks to find compelling imaginary narratives hidden away in what we all think of as history. Behind every milestone or major event in humanity’s long, complex past lies a treasure trove of possibilities for invention - how did Pope Urban VIII feel when confronted by his friend Galileo about the true nature of the sun?  What really happened during an almost triumphant but ultimately doomed Everest attempt? What was it like to be a Norse settler amongst the Saxons; did the omens of the ancient gods begin to disappear?

In approaching Tempus Veritas, Black Orchid Empire sought collectively to push themselves both musically and thematically. Their pursuit of heaviness, melody, emotional power and rhythmic complexity has pushed them to create something they‘re immensely proud of. Semaphore was an album of Sci-Fi, this is an album of Hi-Fi. Tempus Veritas.

India's premier solo metal musician Demonstealer releases new single ft. Hannes Grossmann

Demonstealer, India's premier solo metal musician, has streamed his new single 'The Fear Campaign', another taste of his new album, The Propaganda Machine, out 31st March via Sweden's Black Lion Records.

Featuring Hannes Grossmann (Necrophagist, Obscura), Dominic 'Forest' Lapointe (First Fragment), Anabelle Iratni (Veile, ex-Cradle of Filth, Dean Paul Arnold (Primalfrost), you can view the lyric video for 'The Fear Campaign' here: https://youtu.be/LN2NkDoH7pE

Pre-order The Propaganda Machine here: https://snd.click/propaganda

Demonstealer comments: "'The Fear Campaign' is a track that talks about how in most countries the religious/ethnic majority is constantly kept in fear through government propaganda to be in constant fear of minorities. It's a tactic that has always worked. The opening lines of the song 'Keep them in fear, Keep them believing' really convey how this propaganda works. Musically the track is a rollercoaster and I got to work with some incredible musicians on this. I think this is some of the most intense and brutal drumming by Hannes Grossmann and Dominic Forest has just really played some of the most amazing bass lines, which don't just follow the guitar but yet blend so seamlessly with the track. Of course Dean Paul Arnold has thrown down some epic shreds and Anabelle has given the track a real haunting atmosphere that it needed. It was such an honour how these incredible musicians built this song to the behemoth that you hear."

Featuring a stellar line-up of metal musicians across the globe, The Propaganda Machine is another chapter in the story of one of heavy music’s most tenacious underground legends. The album is a brilliantly wicked 40-minute ride featuring the likes of Hannes Grossmann (Alkaloid, Triptykon, Blotted Science), Martino Garattoni (Ne Obliviscaris, Ancient Bards), and Ken Bedene (Aborted). Technical symphonic death metal at its finest – no holds-barred, full-throttle heaviness. Relentless in its brutality, triumphant in its melodies. Vocally the album is also hard-hitting, marking a lyrical turn to reality and escape from fantasy - an eviscerating take on the polarised world today, and a record that fully speaks truth to power.

Sahil Makhija, better known as Demonstealer, has long been one of the pillars of the heavy metal scene in India. From being at the vanguard of a fledgling metal scene to becoming one of its most visible and respected proponents today, Demonstealer is integral to the growth of the Indian metal community.

In 2000, Demonstealer formed Demonic Resurrection, one of India’s best known and biggest metal bands. Over the last two decades the band has become one of the most recognizable faces of Indian metal, nationally and internationally. Also in 2000 he established India’s first recording studio dedicated solely to metal - a home to all of the country's top metal bands.

Five years later he launched Demonstealer Records – India’s first metal record label. The roster included the best in India’s burgeoning metal scene, and licensed internationally renowned acts, including Behemoth and Dimmu BorgirDemonstealer also founded and ran Resurrection Festival, alongside Demonic Resurrection bassist Husain Bandukwala. For years it was India’s only dedicated extreme metal festival. Needless to say, Demonstealer’s impact on the national scene cannot be overstated.

Aside from the success of Demonic Resurrection (5 studio albums, Metal Hammer Golden God award, multiple tours and festivals across UK and Europe), Demonstealer’s solo career is notable. From his debut album And Chaos Will Reign (2008) to 2021’s The Holocene TerminationSahil has been blazing a thunderous solo trail.

FLOYA release video for new single 'willows'

FLOYA have released a video for their ground-breaking new single 'willows', once again displaying their captivating blend of EDM and rock. Due for release on 17th February via Arising Empire, 'willows' is a whirlwind of emotions that constantly charge throughout the song. Edgy yet poppy vocals are accompanied by a wall of meticulous guitars and synths, leading into what might be FLOYA’s biggest chorus hook to date.

Check out the video for 'willows' here: https://youtu.be/l5PYEvlR8fY

Pre-save 'willows' here: https://arisingempire.com/willows

'willows' was recorded and produced by Chris Kempe (Embark Audio), and mastered by Robin Schmidt (24-96 Mastering).

The band comment:

"'willows' is about taking risks, it tells of how giving in to a specific moment can transform your life forever. As humans we often shy away from taking risks once we have experienced harm, but the only way to grow is to stay open.”

Fusing stomping beats and airy synths of EDM with the feel of a modern rock band, FLOYA are a truly special duo.

Hailing from Germany, Marv Wilder and Phil Bayer found common ground by talking about their childhood influences, namely Peter Gabriel, U2 & Sting. With a vision to fuse fresh pop rock with the aesthetics of EDM and world music, the pair set out to create their unique sound.

After the successful launch of their huge single 'The Hymn', the song was featured in an official AFL game between Port Adelaide and the Western Bulldogs on Australian Television; an impressive achievement for an act that’s been public for only a few months. FLOYA have also received significant airplay from Kerrang! Radio (UK) and Radio Contact. (BE)

Phil and Marv are on a journey of their own, exploring a vast array of genres and following one simple mantra: There are no limits. With this statement engraved on their minds, FLOYA strive to create something bigger than themselves, taking listeners on an unforgettable adventure.
