The Colony release powerful ballad 'Forever Seeking'

Glasgow alt-metal quintet The Colony have shared their new single 'Forever Seeking', the second single from the band's upcoming album Have Hope, due for release 7th April. Following the relentless first single 'Ex-Hail', 'Forever Seeking' is a slower, powerful and inspiring ballad. Lyrically, the song explores themes of self-improvement and forgiveness; these topics are illustrated in the music video, in ways that remind us of each and everyone's own vulnerability.

Stream the song here: https://distrokid.com/hyperfollow/thecolony/forever-seeking

The Colony comment: "This song is about the journey of becoming a better version of yourself. Being able to recognise that you are not perfect and every day you aim to be a better person. Regardless of the mistakes and regrets we all might have; the self-journey is the journey we must take to be comfortable within ourselves"

The Colony's upcoming fourth album Have Hope was produced by Steven Jones (Bleed from Within, From Sorrow to Serenity) and is shaping up to be the band's most accomplished work yet.

Since their formation, The Colony have worked tirelessly to forge their sound; a brand of metal that has unique identity, that possesses a powerful character and a musical sense of adventure.

Quickly building momentum, The Colony toured Ireland and Eastern Europe on the back of the critical acclaim reaped by their Time of Wolves album. They played several open-air festivals in Romania, including the Metalhead Meeting twice, once in 2015 with KreatorRotting Christ and Dragonforce; and again in 2017 with Children of BodomSoulflyKataklysm and more. The band then returned to the UK for a tour with their friends in Godstone.

With The Colony, a new peak is only ever a challenge to climb even higher, and in the summer of 2019 they announced their new full length album Smoke And Mirrors. For this set of songs, the band have taken everything that made their previous efforts so successful and seemingly effortlessly, just raised the bar in every department. Smoke And Mirrors saw the light of day in late September 2019, however the band didn’t get the chance to tour due to the pandemic.

Now back with new music, the band will be announcing big plans for 2023.

ALT BLK ERA drop new single / video 'Rockstar: LUNAR'

Genre-defying sister duo ALT BLK ERA have unveiled their new single ‘Rockstar: LUNAR’. A stark contrast to the trap metal sound for which they've become known, the new single showcases a very different side to this exciting new act.

Watch the video to 'Rockstar: LUNAR' here: https://youtu.be/SsRrjk2ApLo

Stream here: https://songwhip.com/altblkera/rockstarlunar

The deep message, gentle piano and emotional vocals of ‘Rockstar: LUNAR’ is a sincere and polar response to their popular trap metal single 'Rockstar: SOLAR', an aggressive track packed with heavy riffs and scream rap vocals.

ALT BLK ERA comment: "Rockstar: LUNAR' offers an alternate view of the message carried in our earlier TRAP METAL single 'Rockstar: SOLAR' –  which was full of scream rap, romanticising the lifestyle. This song takes on a much more sombre tone. It highlights that all that glitters is not gold - by exploring the gaslighting which can occur in harmful relationships. It then grows and develops to show - that the way out is through self-love.

"We can imagine our listeners lying on their beds and being totally transported by this song."

With a thoughtful and mature reflection on emotionally harmful relationships, the 'Rockstar: LUNAR' story leads listeners on a journey towards self-love, growth and empowerment.

The sisters don’t believe in being restricted in their art and continue to express the complexities of human nature with 'SOLAR & LUNAR' versions of their singles.

Their music is also a direct reflection of their own personalities with Nyrobi being the SOLAR: wild, free-spirit energy, and with Chaya possessing the LUNAR: calm, deep-in-thought energy.

Since forming in 2022 ALT BLK ERA have been picking up unstoppable organic momentum, boasting 42k followers on Instagram, 15k on TikTok, and previous single 'Off With Their Heads' boasting 50k streams on Spotify since its release in December 2022. The duo have also been confirmed for many soon-to-be-announced high-profile festival slots this summer, and will play their first international show next month in Switzerland.

With their fresh and vital take on what it means to be alternative, ALT BLK ERA are here to take 2023 by storm.

Vocalist Charlie Rolfe comments:

"'Flip Side' is the song with the most frustration, the most surface level anger. But it’s actually a song of relief, a song of a new side of life. Lyrically it focuses on the feeling about being an artist, being one with yourself, looking at people who put you down and asking them, how is it living life on the other side?"

Rolfe comments on the new album:

“The new album Ultraviolet is an open work on the thoughts and feelings surrounding us at the time. The anger, the frustration, the progress, everything on show, nothing to hide. Darkroom practice is something that has been a large part of my creative path, finding links between the emotion in music, putting everything on display for all to listen and exposing a colour photograph, putting it on display for all to see. Only when you are exposed to ultraviolet light can you see life in full colour.”

Australian extreme metal squad To The Grave release new single / video 'Found Footage'

Hardline extreme metal squad To The Grave have unveiled their powerful new single / video 'Found Footage' ahead of the release of new album, Director’s Cuts, out tomorrow (24th February) via Unique Leader Records.

Watch the video to 'Found Footage' here: https://youtu.be/hjDaEiBtPT4

The band comment: "This song is our attempt at a little storytelling, inspired by stories of Animal Liberation efforts gone wrong (as they commonly can), told from the perspective of someone at the heart of it.”

Pre-order Director’s Cuts here: https://orcd.co/directorscuts

To The Grave have just completed a mostly SOLD OUT tour in Europe with Shadow Of Intent, Enterprise Earth and Angelmaker. More touring news to be announced soon.

One of Australia’s most uncompromising bands, To The Grave return with their heaviest album to date, both sonically and thematically. Since the release of their 2019 debut album Global Warning, the caustic five piece have garnered international success, with 2021’s follow-up Epilogue, a re-issue of Global Warning with bonus tracks, solidifying their position as “one of the country's heaviest exports.” (Revolver).

To The Grave have steadily built an audience in the underground, accumulating more than 11 million Spotify streams, racking up over 5.4 million YouTube views, all whilst decimating live audiences alongside Parkway Drive, Polaris, Cattle Decapitation, Thy Art Is Murder, Vulvodynia and Alpha Wolf.

Now, following a sold-out national headline tour in 2022 and revitalised by a new lineup, the band are more focused than ever, looking ahead to the release of their second album Director’s Cuts in February 2023.

The eleven tracks lyrically expose a societal and environmental hell on earth whilst pushing the boundaries of accessible extremity, full of barbed hooks, thick with atmosphere and drenched in groove. Razor-sharp guitars played with an exploratory approach - blending everything from whammy pedal squeaks and chiming cleans to death metal chainsaw tones - are entwined with live drums to give a level of dynamism that musically sets this band apart from the extreme metal pack, yet they maintain the weight of the heaviest bands today. Vocalist Dane Evans commands a multifaceted performance, bursting with vocal energy from throat-ripping dissonant screeches to low end gutturals.

At just over 44 minutes in length, Director’s Cuts is an album packed with ambition and conscience. To The Grave have never shied away from channeling the real horrors of animal cruelty and its impact into the violent, emotional intensity of their music. Songs such as ‘Red Dot Sight’, ‘Found Footage’ and ‘Cut Off The Head’ perfectly conjure images of a world gone astray.

Director’s Cuts was recorded by bassist Matt Clarke, with drums recorded live at The Brain Studios in Sydney and mixed and mastered by Lance Prenc at Prenc Audio (Void of Vision, Alpha Wolf, Polaris) in Melbourne with album photography by Animals Uncovered.

The band comment on the new album: "This is the refinement of our combined musical tastes, fuelled by our sadness and anger at the state of the world. We made the music we wanted to make without really considering how it would fit into any little genre boxes, because we knew if we loved it completely then everyone else would too. These songs are hard and heavy without being technical just for the sake of it.”

Plagues release animated lyric video for 'Pledge'

UK theatrical metalcore act Plagues have released a lyric video for their latest sermon 'Pledge'. The narrative visual experience reveals further insights into the mysterious lore of protagonist Osorio and "the Light".

Watch the lyric video here: https://youtu.be/2HLIKLLV75o

Stream 'Pledge' on Spotify: https://spoti.fi/3XwNrO8

Osorio comments: "'Pledge' is a poignant and powerful ballad about the resilience of the human spirit and the importance of holding on to one's dreams in the face of adversity. The lyrics, which chronicle a journey beset by challenges including depression and doubt, convey the narrator's steadfast commitment to their goals despite the obstacles they encounter. The song's introspective and introverted opening, with its subdued instrumental backing and softly sung top line, effectively captures the sense of weariness and fatigue that the narrator speaks of in the lyrics. As the song progresses, however, the music grows in intensity and the narrator's vocals become more assertive, culminating in a triumphant and uplifting declaration that they will overcome any obstacle and be "the Light". The soaring melody and driving beat of the song's latter half effectively convey the message of unwavering devotion, making 'Pledge' a powerful and inspiring anthem of hope and perseverance. It serves as a reminder that even when the trials of life seem insurmountable, belief in oneself and unwavering commitment to one's goals can lead to overcoming any challenge."

Osorio has been live-streaming on TikTok regularly in recent times. During these streams, the character can be seen sitting on a throne in full costume, surrounded by candles, as he writes the names of his viewers, or "chosen ones", in a large book while ominous music plays. These streams, along with his other content, have attracted the attention of many, and earned him hundreds of thousands of followers on the platform.
A large number of users have reacted negatively to his presence on TikTok, calling him "Satanic" or "The Devil". Fake accounts impersonating Osorio also started appearing on TikTok and other platforms, privately messaging his followers and attempting to swindle money out of them.
A Facebook post in which a religious mother set out to warn other parents against Osorio recently went viral, gaining over 58K shares. This has brought even more attention to Osorio and Plagues' social channels, but has also grown the list of scam accounts. The band have made public a list of fake accounts they have come across, and continue to update it.

Plagues are an anonymous, masked, theatrical metal band established in 2020, based in the United Kingdom. The background of the band, due to their anonymity, is shrouded in mystery. It is unknown how many disciples are involved with Plagues at present. All music released by them has the unique label of "Sermons". Focusing on mood and atmosphere, each track is promoted as a sermon to keep in line with the narrative and theatrical nature of Plagues. The promotion of the songs as sermons is to bolster the idea of a cult-like portrayal and depiction of Plagues.

With a heavy social media presence, Plagues have grown their fanbase into a unique experience which has become known as the "We Are The Cleansing Community" or "Sanctuarii" - the name appointed to the ever-expanding group who join the "Plagues Experience" as "Scholars of Light". The Plagues fan community can be found on Discord (7.2K members) and Facebook (5.1K members). The band is also active on TikTok, where they currently have over 500K followers, and continue pushing the mysterious, ambiguous lore of "The Light".

Releasing their first track 'Sentinel' on June 26th 2020, the band have since harboured a rapidly increasing fan base which continues to grow on all major platforms. Their new single ‘Pledge’ showcases a more mellow and melodic side to Plagues, and marks the beginning of their journey towards their debut album, set to release in 2023.

Leading Chilean prog group Aisles release new single 'Time (A Conversation with My Therapist'

One of South America's leading prog groups, Chile's Aisles, have released their new single 'Time (A Conversation with My Therapist)', from their long-awaited new album Beyond Drama, to be released 5th April via Presagio Records.

Pre-order Beyond Drama here: https://www.aislesproject.com/product/beyond-drama-cd-pre-order/

Watch the video for 'Time (A Conversation with My Therapist' here: https://youtu.be/X5LtMHzm0Fk

Aisles comment: "The message of the song is "here there are no guilty parties, except the passage of time". I wanted to give the song the feeling that everything was lost, that work is exhausting, that there is a loss of enjoyment, but also the need to leave everything behind and move forward to get out of that state. Musically, compared to the rest of the album, it's much more melodic, simpler, more direct, we wanted to explore something closer to Pink Floyd, Steven Wilson, and Marillion perhaps."

The new album marks a turning point in Aisles' story. It is their final work in the current line-up, due to the departure of Felipe Candia (drummer), Rodrigo Sepúlveda (guitarist) and Israel Gil (vocalist). Beyond Drama however is not the end, just the beginning of a new chapter, and their most dazzling and tortured record yet.

The band worked on Beyond Drama between January 2019 and October 2021. The album reflects the painful moments that they went through during those years, from the pandemic and political turmoil in Chile, to deaths, splits, and a long internal crisis that almost ended the band. Beyond Drama is a photograph of a particularly difficult time for Aisles, but their love for the beautiful songs within kept them going.

In their time as a band Aisles have toured the Americas, Europe, and performed with prog legends Marillion, Focus, and Riverside

In 2005, Aisles released their debut album, entitled The Yearning, recognized for its elegant and delicate melodic work, especially on epic songs such as 'The Wharf that Holds His Vessel' and 'Gray'. In 2009, their second album, In Sudden Walks, inspired by existential literature and by theater, was nominated for Best Foreign Record at the Prog Awards in Italy, and the group also participated in the 11th version of the Progressif Crescendo Rock Festival in France. Their third record, 4:45 AM (2013), which looked into the loneliness of the human being, received rave reviews and was ranked among the best albums of that year in numerous publications specialised in progressive rock.

Their most-recent studio album, Hawaii (2016), a conceptual double album that narrates the life of humanity in space after the destruction of the Earth, was called a “masterpiece” and globally acclaimed by such august titles as Prog, IO Pages, and Chile’s premiere rock magazine, Rockaxis. The success of the album allowed Aisles to tour in Europe, the United States and Mexico.

In 2018, as a way of closing the cycle of Hawaii, they released the EP Live from Estudio del Sur, complemented with four videos recorded live that are found on YouTube. After the departure of their original vocalist, Sebastián Vergara, at the end of that year, Aisles introduced in September 2020 their new singer, Israel Gil, with whom they restarted their constant artistic evolution by releasing 'Smile of Tears', a new version of the song from the album In Sudden Walks. The band will release their fifth album on 5th April, 2023.

Synth-metal quintet Voyager to represent Australia at The Eurovision Song Contest 2023

Synth-metal quintet Voyager have today been announced as the artist to represent Australia at the 67th Eurovision Song Contest in Liverpool this year.

The fearless, riff-laden, genre-bending band have revealed their entry for the 2023 edition, their stunning 'Promise'.

Listen to Promise here and watch the video here.

The opening line of Voyager’s 2023 Eurovision song 'Promise' is somewhat prophetic. As vocalist Danny Estrin belts out the lyric, “Have you ever done anything like this before?” audiences across the globe will realise we haven’t. For the first time ever, a band will represent the country – and not just any band – a band with soaring melodies, masterful riffs, keytar solos, powerhouse rhythms, and enough charisma to take on the world.

Shattering expectations, their resilience and determination has finally paid off. Voyager's is a story of passion, perseverance, and patience. The band has been throwing their hat in the ring for the Eurovision Song Contest since Australia announced its participation back in 2015. Eight years later, they have prospered, overcome, and are now victorious. Voyager are a band who take everything in their stride, over the years garnering a strong fanbase near and far, continuing to vie for their Eurovision dream. At last year’s Eurovision Australia Decides, they took out second place in a nail-biting finish, leading the public vote with their song 'Dreamer'.

Now, Voyager are about to set sail to Merseyside with their song 'Promise'; an epic, progressive pop-metal track that transports the listener on an emotive story of adventure and redemption. Its stunning music video was captured in the region of Australia's mid-west Kalbarri that boasts the pink ethereal Hutt Lagoon, and Kalbarri National Park, where there are epic gorges and rock formations including Nature’s Window.

Blending New Romantic, ‘80s infused vocals with technical, melodic framework, groovy basslines, bombastic drums, and what is fast becoming the band’s signature instrument, the keytar, it’s sure to lift the roof off Pier Head, Liverpool. They have toured the world many times over, with an influx of fans on their latest European tour won over by their electric live performances.

Voyager will soon embark on their eighth album cycle, but before they can begin their next chapter, they must first take on the epic battle they have long been fighting for.

Voyager’s Danny Estrin said: “As a long-time Eurovision fan, this is the pinnacle - Voyager gets to play the greatest show on earth! Our song 'Promise' is made for the Eurovision stage and collectively we feel it's one of our best yet. We filmed the music video in both the city of Perth and beautiful parts of Western Australia to showcase the majestic beauty of our home state. Eurovisionation, we are coming!!!”

Ukraine’s Kalush Orchestra won the 2022 Eurovision Song Contest in Turin, Italy, with their song 'Stefania'. This year, the United Kingdom will host the competition on Ukraine’s behalf with the theme United by Music. This is the ninth time the United Kingdom will host Eurovision and the fifth time it’s hosted for other countries due to financial or capacity issues.

Danny Estrin (Vocals, Keytar)

Simone Dow (Guitars)
A firecracker of a guitarist whose chronic pain condition only drives her further to succeed. An advocate of migraine awareness, the 7-string guitarist shreds and brings an energy to the stage unmatched by anyone else in the scene.

Scott Kay (Guitars)
Scott’s technical proficiency and energy perfectly compliment his sister in shred, syncopating their efforts on stage and providing a twin attack on guitars. Scott’s philosophical approach to music shines through in his performance, executing a deep and meaningful energy to every live show.

Gideon release visualiser for new single 'Take Off'

Alabama hardcore warriors Gideon have released a visualiser for their new single 'Take Off', boasting a crunchy, early '00s-inspired groove and layered vocal cadence. The track is taken from the band's upcoming album MORE POWER. MORE PAIN., due for release on 17th March 2023 via Rude Records (UK/EU) / Equal Vision Records (ROW).

Check out the visualiser for 'Take Off' here: https://youtu.be/mn2LYKFFAiY

Pre-order MORE POWER. MORE PAIN. here: https://gideonal.com/

The band comment:

"Buckle up - it's pedal to the metal from starting line to finish line on this heavy nu-metal/hip-hop-infused track. File under 'Songs to quit your job to.' Soon to be blasted at a drag strip near you. Hold on tight, we're 'bout to 'Take Off.'"

Since forming in 2008 in Tuscaloosa, AL, Gideon have been making a name for themselves by defying convention, creating their own distinct sound and never settling for anything that was just run of the mill or ordinary. Rather, the band have stretched the boundaries of their sound to great acclaim and to increasing commercial success. 2011's debut album, Costs, established them as powerhouse of the metalcore scene, but that's something Gideon simultaneously pushed away from it, incorporating elements of melodic hardcore and hardcore punk into the fold of their songs, but always with an underlying sense of positivity and defiance. Impressively prolific, the band released their next two full-lengths, Milestone and Calloused, on Facedown Records in 2012 and 2014 respectively, before signing to Equal Vision Records

Their first album for EVR was 2017's Cold, followed by Out Of Control in 2019, a record that deservedly saw the band's profile rising steadily. And then, of course, the pandemic hit. All that hard work and dedication, the progress they'd made vanished in an instant. In fact, Gideon were mid-tour on that album cycle when touring came grinding to a halt and forced the band to return home to Alabama, frustrated and disillusioned with a situation that - like most touring bands - thought might mean the end of what they do. Thankfully, it didn't, which brings us to Gideon's sixth studio album.

Recorded, mixed and mastered by Randy Lebouef at Graphic Nature Audio, MORE POWER. MORE PAIN. is a brutally intense burst of violent noise that both nods to the band's past, musically and thematically, but also establishes itself in its own context.

"We had to walk through fire and break down walls to get to this chapter," says Smelley. "We're done explaining why we are the way we are. This album is for the misunderstood, the dreamers, the broken, the damned, the ones that refuse to fall in line. When everything and everyone tells you to give up, your mind can take you to dark places. We came to realize that there was strength in that. Instead of letting it consume us, we fought like hell."

Gideon are currently on a US tour, with support from For the Fallen Dreams, Orthodox, and Guerrilla Warfare. Find out more and buy tickets here: https://gideonal.com/

Daniel McWhorter - vocals
Tyler Riley - guitar/vocals
