Experimental artist Dorian Electra (they/them) has revealed their new single ‘Sodom & Gomorrah’, the latest release of their new era, alongside a twisted video directed by Dorian and Weston Allen.

Dorian continues to maintain their title of pop music’s provocateur with this new release which follows on from a viral marketing campaign, which saw them plaster walls across the globe with “I <3 SODOMY” posters.

Produced by frequent collaborators Count Baldor and Marcus Andersson (SOPHIE, Rina Sawayama), and co-written by Lauren Aquilina (Ava Max, Demi Lovato), 'Sodom & Gomorrah' is a crunchy, guitar fuelled slice of alt-pop perfection and arguably one of the most commercial singles that Dorian has released to date. The new single follows on from the Clarence Clarity produced 'Freak Mode', which was released this April to much acclaim from fans welcoming in this new era for Electra.
 
Speaking about the new single, Dorian explains: “'Sodom & Gomorrah' is the biblical story of two cities that were so sinful that God destroyed them. The word Sodomy - derived from this story - has often been used to oppress queer people, so I wanted to reclaim it in a bratty, slutty, sexy song. Musically, I was inspired by the pop I grew up on (Britney Spears, Missy Elliot), but with a modern twist, and heavy guitars.”
 
Directed by Dorian and their creative partner Weston Allen, the new video sees Dorian re-imagine the ancient cities of Sodom and Gomorrah in a fantastical way that evokes the legacy of pop icons past. Stylised as a trashy, post-apocalyptic dystopia complete with whips, dance routines, and a touristy “I <3 SODOMY” souvenir shop, this soon to be iconic video is the perfect accompaniment to the poppy new track.

Those yet enlightened must revisit Electra’s first two albums - the world building 2019 album Flamboyant and 2020’s edgy, provocative My Agenda. Dorian’s music masterfully blends together an assortment of genres, including pop, metal, jazz, medieval, epic baroque, classical, EDM, and more. It’s why they’ve been able to collaborate with such a wide range of artists including Lady Gaga, Charli XCX, 100 gecs, The Village People, Pussy Riot, Rebecca Black, and more.

Notes drummer Phil San Giacomo on the track: "'Death Is The Beginning’ was the first song we tracked for our new album, Desiderium. From the start, it felt like it had to be the opening track; it sets the tone and energy of the record right away."

Adds vocalist/guitarist Justin Sherrell: "The lyrics touch on one of the main themes of the record, which is the feeling of living multiple lives or experiencing multiple realities. More specifically, this song explores the idea of recurring hardship and the cyclical nature of life and death."

Somnuri do not keep their feet planted in surface reality. The band’s flavour of heavy metal stomps from genre to genre with the fervour and confidence of a band ready to cross thresholds of all that’s perceivable and possible. Composed of lead guitarist and singer Justin Sherrell, drummer Phil SanGiancomo, and bassist Mike G, they’ve earned attention from publications including Revolver Magazine, Brooklyn Vegan, Metal Sucks, Metal Hammer, and others and their latest effort is a true testament to the band’s insatiable work ethic, cementing them as one of heavy metal’s most exciting emerging acts.

Building off their previous two LPs, Somnuri have spent the last several years hard at work writing riffs and letting their ideas distill in a marathon session of putting the songs together. The final product is Desiderium, an odyssey through a black hole of sounds and heaviness. Recorded at Gojira’s Silver Cord Studios, mixed by Justin Mantooth at Westend Studios, and mastered by Brad Boatright at Audiosiege Mastering. Weaving their way seamlessly through a variety of tempos and sounds, the band give some well-trodden genres new roads to travel. Sherrell’s voice is insanely versatile, both able to deliver soul-filled clean vocals and some grim screams. It’s the perfect counterpoint to the band’s instrumentals, weaving a ladder between sludge, grunge, psych-rock and more.

Front to back, the abundant ideas and soundscapes turn Somnuri's Desiderium into a prism of sound. Every song is an amalgamation of what makes rock kinetic, bridging a gap between acts like Helmet, Karp, Handsome, and Quicksand with the sonic journeys of Isis or Jesu. It’s this thirst for exploration that makes Somnuri who they are: they’re an ascendant band, not constrained by any label or descriptor.

German slamming death metallers Necrotted have announced the release their crushing new album Imperium on 22nd September via Reaper Entertainment, and have unveiled new single / video 'Ignorance Is Fear'.

Criticising ignorance, disinterest and fear of the new, the track features guest vocals from Tomáš Klár of Abbie Falls and Simon Müller of Defocus, who both toured with Necrotted earlier this year.

New album Imperium marks another milestone in the band’s history. Another concept album, the LP develops the elaborate storyline of its predecessor with great detail. Necrotted continue to tread experimental musical paths; their proven recipe of melodic guitar riffs, thundering blast beats and oppressive slams is combined with immersing black metal elements. Fast, brutal, slamming, with a distinct message in their music: Necrotted from southern Germany are a bearer of hope for modern death metal. 

Founded in 2008, the band from Abtsgmünd (Baden-Wuerttemberg) boast four full-length albums Anchors Apart (2012), Utopia 2.0 (2014), Worldwide Warfare (2017) and Operation: Mental Castration (2021), as well as two EPs Kingdom Of Hades (2010) and Die For Something Worthwhile (2019). In the deepest reaches of the English countryside there is a sublime sound emanating from the landscape, and its name is Haunt the Woods. Timely and yet oddly timeless, this surprisingly youthful quartet span musical decades and worlds.

Recently signed with Spinefarm, it won't be long before you hear plenty more from these musical mavericks, and with good reason. Formed in the hinterlands between Plymouth, Devon, and Cornwall, Haunt the Woods deftly interweave alt rock, folk, prog and pop with an epic level of pomp and poetic elegance that suggests a far longer tenure than their young years suggest. With two warmly received EPs and a debut album, Opaque (2020) which was released in 2020, the stage has been set for their overdue introduction to the world, which begins with their stunning new single 'Fever Dream'. Ferocious four-piece Saint Agnes have released a video for their new single 'Outsider'. The track is the third taste of their upcoming album Bloodsuckers, set for release on 21st July via Spinefarm. 'Outsider' was premiered on BBC Radio 1's Introducing Rock earlier this week, with Alyx Holcombe stating: "a band that I think just sounds like the future of rock music ... I'm so excited about them."

Following their triumphant sold-out London headline show in April, Saint Agnes will join Monster Magnet on their spring / summer European run and play a show with Employed To Serve next month, before returning to the UK to perform at 2000trees Festival.

Saint Agnes are also making big waves in the gaming world, with the release of Dead Island 2 last month. The game, which features the Saint Agnes song 'And They All Fall Down', has sold over two million copies.

Hailing from the UK, Saint Agnes are all about honest lyrics, intense vocal performances, plus rage-fuelled music intended to give a voice to those closer to the fringe than the centre.

From the title track (also lead single / video) onwards, Bloodsuckers is a genre-jumping body of work, taking in elements of metal, punk, industrial and grunge, without being bound by any specific style; the 11 tracks here come straight from the source, largely self-produced and mixed (NIN collaborator Sean Beavan lends his mixing and production skills to ‘Follow You’), and this self-contained approach provides an extra emotional weight throughout, with doom trap provocateur and Kerrang! cover artist Mimi Barks further fuelling the chaos on the short, sharp shock that is ‘Body Bag’.
 
Created in the months following the unexpected and untimely death of Kitty’s mother, Bloodsuckers explores a number of themes, including mental illness, pent-up rage, undying love and, of course, grief; from the trash-metal howl into the night that is ‘Bloodsuckers’ right through to broken ballad, ‘This Is Not The End’, a poignant reflection of Kitty’s still-raw emotions, this is a call to outsiders everywhere…

Concludes Kitty: “Creating this album gave me a reason to get to my feet at a time when I really wasn’t sure if I could. I’ve tried to put everything I’ve been feeling into it, all the pain, the rage, the grief, even the unexpected moments of beauty and belief. I hope it makes you feel less alone. I hope it makes you feel bigger, badder and stronger. We might be damaged but that doesn’t mean we’re worthless. This is a record for the defeated, the crushed. "’Lord of Ruins’ was our pick for a first single ‘cause it combines both melodic and aggressive melodies that are present throughout the whole album. So we thought it's a good representation of what to expect of the whole piece. It's also the final song of the record and it has a very impactful meaning. It’s the closure of the whole album concept and it also fits perfectly to the artwork concept we had in mind."

As a raging monster on its own, Shades of Sorrow begins with the instrumental piano intro track 'The Aftermath', creating an ominous atmosphere before 'Dark Clouds' kicks straight off with feral growls to drop jaws, showcasing the full extent of the band’s striking interplay from the very first second. 'Poisonous Apathy' features electrifying guitar sounds and prominent hard-hitting bass, creeping into the listener’s brain. Ruthless 'The Outsider' unleashes a massive drum attack and another ferocity of coals, before it fades into a softer outro that melts seamlessly into the intro of 'Stronghold', one of the slower and more melodic tracks on the album. Outstanding death metal drumming on 'The Other Side of Anger' sets the scene for threatening vocals, evoking an uncontrollable storm. Dark and deep instrumental piano interlude 'The Limbo' acts as an intro to the impressive guitar work on 'Trial of Traitors'. Following the eerie, haunting 'Lullaby for the Forsaken' comes 'Agents of Chaos', showcasing the undeniable talent of the band with its many changes. Relentless death metal tracks 'Lift the Blindfold' and 'Lord of Ruins' offer the last dose of true Crypta sound, leaving the listener breathless before the beautiful instrumental outro 'The Closure' wraps the album up.
