Philadelphia's filthiest and finest progressive death metal band, Horrendous, have revealed another glimpse of their forthcoming album, Ontological Mysterium, with new single 'Cult of Shaad'oah'.

Watch the lyric video here: https://youtu.be/x6n4xRD_gi4

Ontological Mysterium will be released 18th August via Season of Mist

Pre-order Ontological Mysterium HERE and pre-save HERE.

'Cult of Shaad'oah' is a blazing onslaught of bombastic, old-school death metal. It sounds like carving your way up Mount Doom with the evil sword from Soulcaliber. Cymbals crash and ping, while dueling leads race toward a fiery death.

"This song is a symbolic quest through the wastes of doubt and slumbering awareness," says vocalist and guitarist Matt Knox"Its nameless hero ascends from the underworld to the heights of the gods, daring to penetrate the outer reaches of the universe itself and become master of all".

Horrendous worked with renowned comic book artist and writer Daniel Warren Johnson, who has worked on titles for Imag and Marvel comics, to draw a poster to celebrate the album. The poster comes with the limited Vinyl Frankenstein edition and is available on the Season of Mist e-shop.

“Surprises always come up during writing — spontaneous ideas pull you into new territory and enable the realization of novel possibilities that previously were inaccessible.”

Such are the words from Horrendous drummer Jamie Knox when discussing the creation of the band’s fifth full-length, the highly anticipated Ontological Mysterium. Knox’s quote also encapsulates Horrendous’s approach to extreme metal. Since 2009, the band has capably tapped into the inaccessible by providing a fresh, unconventional take on death metal that harnesses technical brilliance with elaborate, mind-melding melodies, frothy, spewing vocals and labyrinthine song structures. This combination has made each Horrendous long play a clinic in the gratifyingly unorthodox. The trend continues on Ontological Mysterium.

Creeping Death release new single/video 'Vitrified Earth'

Texas death metal behemoths Creeping Death have dropped their ferocious new single and accompanying video for 'Vitrified Earth.' The track appears on their Boundless Domain LP, set for release this Friday, 16th June via MNRK Heavy.

'Vitrified Earth' showcases their increasingly innovative songcraft, most evident with the cadence and phrasing of Reese Alavi’s vocals while never neglecting the sick riffs.

Watch the video for 'Vitrified Earth' here: https://youtu.be/z72yJyvu4FY

Pre-order the album Boundless Domain here: https://creepingdeath.ffm.to/boundlessdomain

Produced by Killswitch Engage guitarist Adam Dutkiewicz (As I Lay Dying, The Acacia Strain, Underoath) Boundless Domain is a certified ripper from start to finish and stands towering among this year’s most volatile death metal offerings. In paying tribute to the passing of local icons Riley Gale of Power Trip and Wade Allison of Iron Age, the band found themselves digging deep into some of their metallic hardcore favourites, making for a sophomore slab of monolithic weight, dimension, and relentless power.

Boundless Domain boasts future death metal classics like the super heavy, fast, and groovy 'Intestinal Wrap,' which features George 'Corpsegrinder' Fisher of Cannibal Corpse. Toward the album's end, there's even a bit of a spaced-out atmosphere, with guitar effects, harmonies, and heady time signatures.

About Creeping Death

Originally hailing from Denton, Texas, and now situated in the greater Dallas-Fort Worth area, Creeping Death summon a vibrant sound that is somehow both familiar and fresh. Their initial outburst, 2016's three-song Sacrament Of Death, introduced them to death and thrash metal audiences, followed two years later by the Specter Of War EP. By the time they unleashed 2019's Wretched Illusions album, Kerrang! hailed Creeping Death as "an underground juggernaut" that "channels all the raddest aspects of metal without getting shoehorned into any clichés." 2021's The Edge Of Existence EP further demonstrated the power, fury, and revelry at the heart of their identity.

Tours with High On Fire, The Acacia Strain, Rotting Out, Terror, and The Warriors spread the Creeping Death message. Crowds succumbed to the group's combination of endlessly catchy riffage, precise percussion, and storytelling lyrics. Early 2023 saw Creeping Death travel overseas to the UK and Europe with Revocation and Goatwhore. A US trek supporting Carcass, Municipal Waste, and Sacred Reich is on the books. The journey kicks off on 31st March in Santa Ana, California and winds its way through two dozen cities, closing on April 30th in Los Angeles, California.

Epic progressive extreme metal group The Arcane Order release new album & stream lyric video

Danish extreme metal quintet, The Arcane Order, have released their triumphant new album Distortions From Cosmogony, today, 9th June via Black Lion Records.

Guitarist/composer Flemming C. Lund comments: "We are extremely happy to finally be able to release our next opus in the continuation of the Order’s works in the shadows.

"We are relieved and honoured to notice that our extreme and layered brand of metal has found its way into the hearts and ears of many active listeners. Listeners who take the time this album needs to let it sink in.

"Thank you to old and new fans alike who have given this time and space to grow on them - let the reign of the
Order resonate."

Distortions From Cosmogony is an album for which the word 'epic' does little justice. Its singular style combines the extreme, the grandiose, technical and melodic while telling the story of mankind’s eternal existential conflict between autonomy and submission.

Kim Song Sternkopf (MØL, vocals) and Bastian Thusgaard (Soilwork, drums) join long-time members Flemming C. Lund (guitars) and Kasper Kirkegaard (Hatesphere, rhythm guitar), alongside Anders Frodo S. Mikkelsen (bass).

Founded by Flemming in the 00s, with the aim of delivering epic, melodic extreme metal, The Arcane Order swiftly signed with Metal Blade, who released their first two albums The Machinery of Oblivion (2006) and In the Wake of Collisions (2008).

After a hiatus, the band then released Cult of None (2015), before another break while all band members worked on their other projects. Despite this, along the way, The Arcane Order have played a string of high-profile shows, marking themselves as one of Denmark’s most exciting underground metal acts.

In their time, the band have played alongside Carcass, Suffocation, and Testament; and they draw inspiration from French tech-death legends Scarve, Decapitated, Strapping Young Lad, and Ihsahn, among many others.

As the previous three, the new album was recorded by Jacob Hansen (Aborted, Arch Enemy, Volbeat, Katatonia, etc), with Jacob Bredahl (Lifesick, Eyes, Livløs, etc) recording vocals.

The result: a 54-minute long virtuosic display of The Arcane Order’s unique fusion of death, black, tech, classic and melodic metal. In the same manner, the subject matter of The Arcane Order demands a will to be challenged.

Distortions from Cosmogony revolves around eternal existential struggle, between autonomy and submission. This is a subject close to vocalist Kim Song Sternkopf’s heart – he grew up in an oppressive religious sect; subsequent loss of faith has led to a deep fascination with what leads us as humans drawn to hierarchies, vs our deep desire for independence and the existence of free will.

The Arcane Order are:
Kim Song Sternkopf: Vocals
Flemming C. Lund: Guitar
Kasper Kierkegaard: Guitar
Anders Frodo S. Mikkelsen: Bass
Bastian Thusgaard: Drums

Swiss progressive death metallers Kassogtha release new single 'Awake' feat Anna Murphy (Cellar Darling)

Young Swiss progressive death metallers Kassogtha have released a new, spiced-up version of their single 'Awake', featuring Anna Murphy (Cellar Darling, ex-Eluveitie) on guest vocals and hurdy-gurdy.

Watch 'Awake feat. Anna Murphy' here: https://youtu.be/Y9cC4OMo4Kc
Stream 'Awake feat. Anna Murphy' here: https://kassogtha.lnk.to/awake

The original version of 'Awake' features on the band's new album rEvolve, which you can order here: https://kassogtha.lnk.to/rEvolve

Vocalist Stephany comments: "'Awake' is a song about hope and recovery, taken from the 3rd and last chapter of our concept album rEvolve. With its very proggy atmosphere, we had no doubt that Anna would be the perfect fit for joining us on this song. She brought in her personal touch, contributing the hurdy-gurdy and her exceptional vocal harmonies. We previously had the chance to work with Anna on the recording of our first EP in 2019, and then toured with the band she fronts - Cellar Darling in 2022. She, as well as the rest of Cellar Darling, have been an inspiration to us over the years, so we were honoured when she agreed to do 'Awake' with us."

Kassogtha place authenticity and sincerity above smoke and mirrors: a genuine metal band for true metal fans that takes the genre further without abandoning its core ingredients. From Pink Floyd to Gojira, Kassogtha’s no-nonsense brand of groovy progressive death metal combines a variety of influences to create a steamrolling fusion of irresistible riffs, neck-breaking drums and a vocal range covering devastating growls and ethereal melodies.

In November 2022, these fast-rising progressive death metallers emerged from Fascination Street Studios in Sweden with guns blazing and released their second album rEvolve. The songs were perfected with producer/recording engineer David Castillo (Carcass, Opeth, Leprous) and mixing engineer Linus Corneliusson (Ihsahn, Amorphis). The album release was followed up by a UK tour with Cellar Darling and a mostly sold-out tour with Avatar in Europe. Having also shared the stage with the likes of Sirenia, and The Agonist across Europe, Kassogtha recently performed with Triptykon, at which they filmed their 'Complacency' video.

Kassogtha was brought to life by vocalist-lyricist Stephany and chief songwriter Morty in Geneva, Switzerland. The band’s debut album A New World to Come (2017) was followed by their sophomore EP The Call (2019), where Kassogtha showcased their musical diversity with an edgy cover of Pink Floyd’s 'Welcome to the Machine'.

On the band’s new concept album rEvolve, Stephany conquers her inner demons and tells the story of an endless self-destructive cycle of fear, anxiety, and jealousy. In a world that normalises negativity, we have forgotten how to be ourselves — and following a pandemic-enforced long, hard look at humanity and society, this is Stephany’s journey of dealing with these emotions. This album is a perfectly timed release valve for two years of isolation, anxiety and grief — a furious expression of frustration with your own inner demons.

Finnish symphonic extreme metallers Shade Empire release new single/video 'Sunholy'

Finnish symphonic extreme metallers Shade Empire have released a captivating single/video for the title track of their sixth studio album, Sunholy. The track represents a heavier and more symphonic moment on the album, exemplified by breathtaking scenery and landscapes throughout the video.

New album Sunholy is set for release on 15th September via Candlelight Records

Check out the single ‘Sunholy’ here: https://youtu.be/CpCgX2QZBMw

Pre-save Sunholy here: https://CandlelightRecords.lnk.to/ShadeEmpireSunholy

The band comments: "We wanted to do things differently than before on the 'Sunholy' video as the music demanded epic landscapes. We ran into an extremely talented film maker Oliver König whose previous works and beautiful sceneries caught our attention. So we went to shoot the video in the Austrian Alps and ended up on one of the highest peaks in Austria (2500m). We couldn't be more happy with the result!"

Formed in Kuopio, Finland in 1999, Shade Empire have developed their own genre, an unholy fusion of symphonic melody interwoven with black and death metal overtones, emotionally rich vocals and tight orchestral instrumentation. New album Sunholy features nine towering tracks of atmospheric beauty, barbed with unspeakably brutal guitar patterns, multi-layered beautiful synth walls, devastating drum parts, complex bass assaults and unique vocals that are delivered straight from the jaws of hell. Fans of Dimmu Borgir, Marduk, Septicflesh and Dark Tranquility will find something here.

Mixed by Chris Edrich (Devin Townsend, Leprous, Alcest) and mastered by Pierrick Noël (Klone), with Fleshgod Apocalypse's Francesco Ferrini responsible for the orchestrations and Andy Reich at Collapse Of Art completing the artwork, Sunholy is a long-aged piece of art and labour of love. Embodying the most comprehensive Shade Empire effort to date, the lyrics are thematically inspired by the Jonestown tragedy, a mass murder-suicide of the Peoples Temple cult, but there's also a fuller contemplation and exploration of the current state of the world.

After a long-endured absence, Shade Empire have returned as grandiose experts in their craft, with an astounding soundtrack to Hell's gates opening and a band relishing being at the top of their game.

Henry Hämäläinen – vocals
Juha Sirkkiä – guitars and keys
Eero Mantere – bass guitar
Erno Räsänen – drums
Aapeli Kivimäki - guitars

Monasteries share new single 'Alone & Against'

UK tech-deathcore quintet Monasteries have unveiled new single / video 'Alone & Against', out now via Seek and Strike.

Watch the video for 'Alone & Against' here: https://youtu.be/h0LuJWfxFQ4

Stream available from all usual outlets including the band's Spotify

Monasteries are well known for their barrage of frenetic aggression and unrivalled intensity. From dissonant riffs and scathing vocals to massive breakdowns and infectious hooks, this band have quickly carved out their own niche within the deathcore genre. However, Monasteries continue to pave new ground, pushing past the boundaries of conventionalism to craft some of the most dynamic and unique material of their already storied career. This is best showcased on their blistering, new track, 'Alone & Against', which also serves as the first single from the band’s upcoming, full-length album due later this year.

Josh Davies (vocals) states: "I chose this as the first single because it's just straight up brutal, ignorant and heavy. It has elements that people love from us, but it also has some next level parts that people won’t see coming and it’s just a straight throw down song. Vocally, for this release, I wanted to go back to our roots and go even heavier, bringing those disturbing gutturals and proper low screams. The lyrics came from an angry, pissed off mindset. It’s about people crucifying you for your failures making you out to be the worst thing ever, but in-fact they’re hypocritical because they’ve also made the same mistakes as you have or worse. The song title felt pretty fitting, just being alone and against all the bullsh*t being thrown at you.

"We specifically wanted to evolve and change direction when writing our new album. We looked into different perspectives, like how can we make this song better for the live audience with a lot more of a structured mindset than ever before. It finally felt like everyone was on the same page. There’s songs and riffs on this release that’ll get people wanting to throw down, but there’s also some slight curve balls where we’ve experimented a bit, so expect the unexpected.

“We’re also stoked to officially announce the addition of Craig Robertson as our second guitar player, who’s an absolute shredder. This new line-up just feels right and we’re all hungrier than ever before. People should expect a new era and re-brand of Monasteries at Tech-Fest this year. We will be debuting a lot more newer material and playing only the older bangers, so get there early and experience this new chapter with us.”

The band will perform at this year's UK Tech-Fest, taking place at the Newark Showground on 29th June - 2nd July.

German prog metal trio The Hirsch Effekt share new single 'Urian'

German prog metal trio The Hirsch Effekt share their new single 'Urian' via Long Branch Records, a gloomy portrayal of present-day humans’ togetherness and opposition. The first track released following their Gregaer EP (2021) and Solitaer EP (2022), 'Urian' takes darker approach than their previous work.

After charting at #21 on the German album charts, and formidable performances at Wacken Open Air, Full Force Festival, ArcTanGent and as recent headliners at the renowned Euroblast Festival, The Hirsch Effekt give us an impressive taste of their new material with 'Urian'.

Bass player Ilja John Lappin comments: "We’re glad to release our new single 'Urian', which presents our first song in 2023 and the first since our latest release Solitaer EP (2022). This time we dived musically and thematically a little deeper into grimmer abysses as well as into the madness of many, but were able to return - albeit a little haunted - with a song that represents and combines the classic Hirsch Effekt elements."

The Hirsch Effekt, consisting of multi-instrumentalists Nils Wittrock (vocals, guitars), Ilja John Lappin (bass, vocals) and Moritz Schmidt (drums), play an extremely variable style of music, performed to the peak of sophistication, resulting in a homogenous and enormous sound monster. Their epic, aggressive, and sinister sound, is complimented with a personal touch and frankness in the German lyrics. They signify authenticity and closeness, and stand out as a counterpart to the musical tapestry.

The Hirsch Effekt have also announced their Urian Tour 2023, which marks their first major headliner since their Eskapist album tour (2017) due to the pandemic. Check online for dates.
