Make Them Beg For Death delivers savage beatdowns equally designed to pulverise and mesmerise. “It follows on from where Wrong One To Fuck With left off,” drummer Trey Williams promises. “We don’t need to participate in the technical death metal arms race. We’ve got the big guns, and we’ve proven that. It’s all about pointing them in the right direction, so to speak.”  

Monstrous riffs, blast beats, unstoppable hooks, and earth-moving grooves define their catalogue. “We put our own twist on Death Metal,” explains co-vocalist/guitarist John Gallagher. “We were like most bands, starting in the garage, drinking beer, having a little fun on the weekend, finding the right amps through trial and error. We blended aspects of bands we liked – Suffocation, Obituary, Deicide, and Cannibal Corpse, among others; the dual vocal approach of Carcass – and made them our own. ‘Let’s make it moshy, let’s make it slammy.’”

To Dying Fetus, the mission is straightforward. “The philosophy is the same now as it was when the band started,” Gallagher confirms. “To write catchy riffs and to make it memorable. Whatever style of music you’re doing, make it something people want to hear repeatedly.”

Introducing Temic - prog’s newest, most ambitious, and most adrenaline-fuelled act. Temic melds the creative minds of keyboardist and sound designer Diego Tejeida (Devin Townsend, Mike Portnoy’s Shattered Fortress, ex-Haken), guitarist Eric Gillette (The Neal Morse Band, Mike Portnoy’s Shattered Fortress), drummer Simen Sandnes (SHINING, Arkentype), and vocalist Fredrik Klemp (Maraton, 22).

The origins of Temic date back to 2017, when Tejeida and Gillette toured the world as band members of Mike Portnoy’s Shattered Fortress. From the very first chords they exchanged, their musical chemistry both on and off stage was undeniable, leading them to discuss the prospect of starting a new band together. Unfortunately, conflicting tour and recording commitments forced them to turn their attention elsewhere for years: that is, until the world came to a standstill in 2020, and Tejeida called Gillette to ask a fateful question: “Remember how we said we should make music together? Well, how about now?”

Thus, the first demos for what would later become Temic’s 2023 debut album, Terror Management Theory, began to emerge. Within a few weeks after that initial phone call, the musical vision of Temic had become clear: to create progressive music that is heavily influenced by high-energy electronic music, but arranged and orchestrated for a five-piece modern prog rock/metal band. The pulse can be the focus, and the vocal melody can be king.

Eager to join forces with the very best bandmates, Tejeida and Gillette first summoned the rhythmic power of their friend and drummer Sandnes. With characteristic enthusiasm, Sandnes seized the opportunity, prepared to contribute his percussive prowess as the heartbeat of Temic. When it came time to find the singer that would carry Temic's melodies to new heights, Sandnes recommended vocal powerhouse Klemp, whose emotive delivery and unmatched intensity left no doubt that he was destined to be the voice of Temic. Finally, to round out the rhythm section of Terror Management Theory, dynamic bassist Jacob Umansky (Intervals) was invited on board as a guest player, gracing the album with an unrivaled groove and a signature low-end sound.

Together, this mammoth lineup is Temic, a high-energy, electronic-inspired, modern melodic prog metal band for the next generation.

The band comment: "As well as it being an acronym for TURIN, it's been at the heart of this album's concept for all the lyrics. All five of us have been in situations where we act like nothing's wrong or bothering us, the reality of doing that is unforgiving. It harms us. It can impact those around us and often the reality of the situation doesn't change until we speak up and look for support. In some cases, forgiveness. We wrote this song at the tail end of the COVID lockdown in the UK as a way for us to reinvent our sound and push forward with whatever the next stage of this band would be, what came from it was a new album and a new drive to evolve what we have."

The band comment: "'Ultraviolet' is certainly one of the darkest songs on the album. As the protagonist struggles to cope with the pressures of the modern world and its insane demands, the song has a message that we hope will resonate with many people, and we collaborated with director Matt Pitcher to tell this story in a cinematic way. Atreyu have announced their new EP The Moment You Find Your Flame, due for release on 18th August via Spinefarm. The four-track release comes hot on the heels of their recent EP, The Hope Of A Spark.

The Moment You Find Your Flame EP, produced by long-time collaborator John Feldman, reflects the struggle in recognising one’s self-worth, touching upon internal battles, self-doubt and insecurities that can overshadow one's perception of their own abilities. The band have found their own flame, a metaphor for their soul-baring introspection, providing comfort and catharsis through music in the face of universal emotions that unite us all.
 
“We draw strength from each other and give each other the space and support to be the best, most creative person we can be,” Jacobs explains. “And together, right now, that makes us the best band we’ve ever been.”
 
The EP and the band encompass five friends who came together to create music for themselves, for each other, and for the thriving community that has forged around it. They are bonds born of time, joy and sadness, of success and hardship and most importantly, they are born of an openness that allows five unique creative personalities to unite in something far stronger and far bigger than the sum of its talented parts.
 
“The Moment You Find Your Flame is the path you’ve set out on to recovery. You’ve followed the glimmer of hope and potential, and the way forward is beginning to reveal itself. But it is still  only a little flame. It needs nurturing still,” says bassist/vocalist Porter McKnight.
 
“Everything that we have put out to this point has built up to this moment,” concludes Jacobs. “Something special is happening with Atreyu right now. 'From The Inside' highlights Orbit Culture's blend of infectious hooks and crushing melodies, wraped up in captivating songwriting. Niklas Karlsson (guitars/vocals) states: "Right off the bat, starting in the writing and demo stage of this album, all of us in the band felt that this song was special. It is somewhat of a melancholic track, but with a deadly punch that works well over this atmospheric clean guitar. The intro felt right, the verse felt right and the chorus felt right. It’s just one of those songs that combined all of the elements of this album into a single track.

"The lyrics contain several metaphors talking about not really being fit in and dealing with life’s everyday bullshit. I drew a line between the similarity of solitude to being left outside in the cold, which mostly starts within yourself. That’s how the whole visual aspect of the video came from, being left out, seeing the world and the rest of the world can see you, but you can’t be touched."

On Descend, Niklas continues: "We wanted this album to sound as big and aggressive as possible, while maintaining a pleasant listening experience. I took a lot inspiration from the movie Dune, not because of the story or anything, but because the combination of imagery and music created this vast picture and we wanted to convey that epic feel with this new album."

We put every creative decision of the music video - whether it was clothing, lighting, colours, content, whatever... - into other people's hands. Heavy metal quintet Skies Turn Black have unveiled new single 'The Skies Are Falling Down', along with a live performance video. This is the first release featuring new member Xander Isles on keytar and backing vocals. The single comes just a few days after the band announced they will be performing at Bloodstock this August.

Skies Turn Black are a five-piece heavy metal band hailing from the North of England. Their sound incorporates a modern approach to classic British heavy metal, with the energy of power metal. Giant choruses, infectious melodies and virtuosic solos (from both guitars and keytar) create a recipe for metal that oozes passion and intricacy. 

The band have always taken pride in having a diverse repertoire of music. The debut album No Place Like Home (2018) showcases a magnitude of the band’s musicianship and received glowing reviews all around the world - including Metal Hammer calling it “Some of 2018’s best guitar work”. 

The band have yet again managed to stand out in the metal scene with the addition of long-term friend Xander Isles as a vocalist and keytar extraordinaire. Xander’s additional support vocally has given the band the ability to deliver powerful harmonies live, as well as a whole new outlook on writing vocal parts in newer material. ‘The Skies Are Falling Down’ is the first track to feature Isles, and his influence is evident. The power of the vocal delivery is extraordinary, with features of choral harmonies and infectious melodies. Adding to this his mesmerising keytar solo, having Xander has given Skies Turn Black an extra arrow in their quiver. 

Right now, the northern quintet have a selection of new material ready to go, and are incredibly excited to see where it will take them. The band are putting finishing touches on their own studio built in Huddersfield, and look to keep producing their own passionate brand of metal.
