US prog death metallers Horrendous stream new single

Philadelphia's filthiest and finest progressive death metal band, Horrendous, have revealed a new glimpse of their forthcoming album, Ontological Mysterium, with their single 'Preterition Hymn'.

'Preterition Hymn' is of a different Satanic verse than the two previous singles. It's still plenty sinister, with hellacious vocals that sound like the band is being burned alive - but it's more of a slow burn. The twin guitars wring out a tortured but deeply melodic riff that drips like sweet, sweet tears.

Horrendous comments: "'Preterition Hymn' is a lament for the weary and the damned - those who, like in the myth of Tantalus, can glimpse the golden fruits of knowledge and divinity yet are kept perpetually just out of reach by the tides of misfortune and fate. It is a hymn of longing infused with the faintest hope that our misery is merely the cleansing ablution necessary to don the robe of flames, free at last."

Ontological Mysterium will be released 18th August via Season of Mist

Horrendous worked with renowned comic book artist and writer Daniel Warren Johnson, who has worked on titles for Imag and Marvel comics, to draw a poster to celebrate the album. The poster comes with the limited Vinyl Frankenstein edition and is available on the Season of Mist e-shop.

“Surprises always come up during writing — spontaneous ideas pull you into new territory and enable the realization of novel possibilities that previously were inaccessible.”

Such are the words from Horrendous drummer Jamie Knox when discussing the creation of the band’s fifth full-length, the highly anticipated Ontological Mysterium. Knox’s quote also encapsulates Horrendous’s approach to extreme metal. Since 2009, the band has capably tapped into the inaccessible by providing a fresh, unconventional take on death metal that harnesses technical brilliance with elaborate, mind-melding melodies, frothy, spewing vocals and labyrinthine song structures. This combination has made each Horrendous long play a clinic in the gratifyingly unorthodox. The trend continues on Ontological Mysterium.

Hail The Sun release video for new single 'Maladapted'

Californian rock quintet Hail The Sun have released a video for their new single 'Maladapted'. The track is the third single from their upcoming album Divine Inner Tension, due for release on 11th August via Rude Records (UK/EU) / Equal Vision Records (ROW).

'Maladapted' carries the throughline for which Divine Inner Tension is thematically based. The track is an exercise in letting go, simply relinquishing whatever control one has to surrender to a power greater than themselves. This feeling is one of the most liberating and empowering emotions that frontman Donovan Melero has ever experienced.

“Through this fight for control my whole life, I have experienced intense OCD for as long as I can remember,” Melero says. “My mind is on endless loops. And a therapist put it best a couple of years ago – that it was a maladaptive way to give me the illusion of having control over things I didn’t. Purely noise. A distraction. Letting go brings an even greater sense of relief when I can get to that mindframe and do it.”

Helmed by notable producer Kris CrummettDivine Inner Tension finds the veteran rock band questioning what it means to be here and to be alive, on both a micro level - where the importance of our existence is profound and paramount - and on a macro one - where our time on this planet is nothing but irrelevant and insignificant.

One of the main epiphanies California's Hail The Sun had when making this new album was understanding that inspiration didn’t have to come from a place of despair, and letting go of the idea that an artist needs to be tortured in order to create. Instead, the band looked beyond the viscerally emotional to the more spiritual and even enlisted the help of Ice Nine Kills’ Joe Occhiuti, who is also involved with vocalist Donovan Melero’s Kill Iconic Records, on a number of tracks.

On the album, Melero admits: “This is the first album we’ve written that didn’t come exclusively from a place of suffering or pain. Sadness, heartbreak and nihilism all inspire, but during the pandemic, there was a big shift, and this is more about retelling the story - retelling stories about everyday perceptions. Everything comes from within, so I thought that maybe I don’t have to suffer to feel inspired.”

Hail The Sun have also announced a run of US headline dates, set to take place in July and August. Support will come from Being As An OceanKaonashi, and Origami Button. Head to Hail The Sun's website for full dates and tickets: https://hailthesun.com/

Monasteries announce new album Ominous, stream new single

UK tech-deathcore quintet Monasteries have announced their new album Ominous, to be released 25th August via Seek and Strike.

In celebration of the news, Monasteries have also streamed new single 'Heaven Failed Us'.

Pre-order the album here: https://orcd.co/ominouslp

Watch the video for previous single 'Alone & Against' here: https://youtu.be/h0LuJWfxFQ4

Monasteries are well known for their barrage of frenetic aggression and unrivalled intensity. From dissonant riffs and scathing vocals to massive breakdowns and infectious hooks, this band have quickly carved out their own niche within the deathcore genre. However, Monasteries continue to pave new ground, pushing past the boundaries of conventionalism to craft some of the most dynamic and unique material of their already storied career. This is most evident on this new track/video for 'Heaven Failed Us', which showcases the band in truly an all new light. It also serves as the second single from the band’s upcoming, full-length due out 25th August.

Josh Davies (vocals) states: "I personally chose ‘Heaven Failed Us’ as the album’s second single for a lot of reasons, but mainly to keep the listeners on their toes wondering what could possibly follow this. It’s a total departure from what we normally write. Personally, it’s such a step up for us as songwriters and I’m looking forward to hearing what people think of this new dynamic.

"This song came about when
Aaron (guitars) and I were initially discussing the new album's direction. I mentioned how I didn’t want it to be a straight out unrelenting heavy release and diversity is something we should be striving for. Previously, we’ve messed around with clean singing, but we never had any that was at the forefront of a track.

"The song is pretty much a black sheep, but it holds a value within the context of the album. It was cathartic and refreshing to be able to express ourselves in a different way and we hope you enjoy it."

"This is 'Irreversible'.
The very death of hope.
The final nail.
Us against all you swine.
In the name of spite.
Straight for your throats."

Formed in 2004 in York (UK), Deitus create sonic terror through the medium of black metal with no limits and no compromises. The band's core line-up has remained a stable 3-piece since their inception, taking inspiration from such artists as DissectionSlayerGG AllinFields of the Nephilim and Bathory.

Deitus produce raw, dark and melodic soundscapes that have helped to win them high praise for their notorious, blood-drenched, rabid, violent live performances across the UK, Europe, United States and Mexico. They have received attention for bringing an unpredictable and dangerous element back into the live setting and have played alongside such esteemed bands as MayhemShiningHellhammerRotting Christ and also at various festivals across the globe including Bloodstock Festival (UK), Netherlands Deathfest (NL), Odyssey To Blasphemy (DE), Winter Rising (FR) and Sangre Y Fuego para Mictlantecuhtli (MX).

Our Hollow, Our Home return with new single and line up featuring Gaz King (ex-From Sorrow To Serenity, Nexilva)

Southhampton Metalcore heroes Our Hollow, Our Home have made an electrifying return with a new line-up, promising to usher in a new era for the group. Now fronted by phenomenal vocalist Gaz King (ex From Sorrow To Serenity, Nexilva), his wide dynamic range, pitched screams and powerful cleans bring many exciting fresh elements to Our Hollow Our Home's trademark sound.

Their reemergence is marked by the release of their first single 'Downpour', a track that retains their signature blend of aggressive, yet melodic soundscapes while potentially showcasing influences from the band's new members.

Guitarist / vocalist and primary songwriter Tobias Young commented "I’m really proud to present our latest single, 'Downpour'. This is the first release with the new line-up it heralds a new chapter and fresh sound for the band. For me, lyrically, 'Downpour' is about life's shifting dynamics. It speaks not only to my own personal experience with the changes in the band, but I believe it can resonate with anybody. 'Downpour' is about overcoming your own fears and anxieties, staying true to yourself, and what is right for you as an individual.

"Given everything that has happened, and the amount of change within the band, it was super important for us to bring something new to the table as soon as we could. As soon as we wrote 'Downpour', we knew this was the song to return with straight away. 'Downpour' will be released as a stand-alone single, but rest assured, we've already been working very hard on our fourth album, which is sounding wild!

"Musically I think this is the best the band has ever sounded. Collaborating with the insanely talented
Sky Van Hoff (Rammstein/Sleep Token) has been a game-changer. He's given our sound a modern twist while keeping our original vibe intact. which is something we wanted to set out to do from the start.

"I’m so excited for people to hear this new chapter of the band. I hope that those who have been with us for any length of time will still get behind us, and I’m looking forward to seeing some new faces along the way."

The band return to the stage next week in the UK supporting Attila.

Dates:

Jul 18: UK Manchester Rebellion (+ Forager)
Jul 19: UK Edinburgh Mash House (+ Perpetua)
Jul 20: UK Nottingham Rock City Beta (+ Those Once Loyal)
Jul 21: UK London The Underworld (+ Rage Doll)

The level of relatability, coupled with their relentless touring with the likes of Asking Alexandria and Blessthefall and high profile slots at festivals like GraspopNova RockSummerblast and Jera On Air, has seen the band command an ever growing army of highly dedicated followers; they have over 70,000 on Spotify, have been viewed over 9 million times on Youtube and have over 29,000 Instagram followers and 107,000 on Facebook and 2017’s debut album Hartsick reached the top spot of the Itunes chart for rock and metal in the UK, as well as placing in the top ten in the USA, Canada, Australia, Mexico, Italy and Germany.

They were also boosted by their hugely popular cover of Ed Sheeran’s ‘Shape of You’ in 2017, which was picked up by BBC Radio One’s Greg James and subsequently topped the iTunes UK rock and metal chart, and racked up over 300,000 plays on YouTube on its first week of release.

For a band who have handled their own operations internally without the help of major label or industry backing till today, that is a mightily impressive number, and testament to the devotion Our Hollow, Our Home have to their craft. But it’s more than just the numbers that are impressive, it’s the way in which those people have connected with the band. Be it their lyrical content, their staunchly DIY approach, their high energy live shows or their down to earth attitude, Our Hollow, Our Home have connected with their audience in a way that cannot be forced or faked.

Takida, one of Sweden’s most successful current rock bands, have released new single 'The Loneliest Hour' via their new home Napalm Records. The track embodies the band's unmistakable sound and features one of Robert Pettersson’s strongest vocal performance to date.

Watch the video for 'The Loneliest Hour' here: https://youtu.be/-e640J5NpGw

The band comments: "'The Loneliest Hour' is about seeking the ultimate thrill, constantly being on the verge of losing one's footing, until eventually being unable to resist the obsessive thoughts. TesseracT announce new album War Of Being, world tour, and release epic title track single/video

Five years since the release of Sonder, UK prog-metal titans TesseracT have returned with their new album War Of Being, to be released 15th September via Kscope. The Dream has crash-landed, and 'ex' and 'el' awaken to find themselves in 'The Strangeland', facing a foe known simply as 'Fear'. The two are separated, and so begins the journey of War Of Being...

Pre order here: https://tesseractkscope.lnk.to/warofbeing

‘War Of Being’, the first single to be released from the album of the same name, is an eleven-minute visual extravaganza and provides the perfect prologue for the album’s aurally and visually immersive story. Written and directed by Found Format with 2nd Unit Director Richard Oakes Dark Fable Media (Sleep Token) - the feature length video proves that TesseracT remain not only pioneers but innovators in a movement of their own making. Be sure to wait until the very end of the clip for the next piece of the puzzle to be revealed...

Watch the epic video here: https://youtu.be/UnkpPIupQxM

TesseracT bassist Amos Williams states:

"'War Of Being' has been all encompassing for us since late 2019.  After I returned home from filming P O R T A L S I found myself in such a deeply introspective headspace. The scale of work and reward from that project kind of set this up to be inevitable. We simply had to try and see how far we could take a concept album with TesseracT.

"Within these songs the band has given life to the themes and ideas that are personified within the characters of 'The Strangeland' story. It’s certainly been a catharsis and a way for me to explore the internal dissonance."

Regarding the track, Daniel Tompkins, the band’s vocalist, had the following to say:

"'War Of Being' is a fight for acceptance, a battle of existence and a resistance against ego. It’s a struggle for control as we cut through the white noise of reality. It’s the need to know and identify with oneself, to accept and understand what we stand for and who we are. There is an urgent need to ‘Tear the mask away’ and reveal your true self."

Leaders not followers, TesseracT exist in a sphere of their own with ambition positively written into the band’s DNA and War Of Being is no different.

The album opens with the reverie shattering ‘Natural Disaster’, followed by the pendulum swing of ‘Legion’. That slingshots us into the herculean title track - the album's 11 minute centrepiece that undulates with precision and power. When coupled with the beguiling melodies of ‘The Grey’, or the unshielded honesty of ‘Burden’, the band deliver their most impassioned release to date - an album to excite and inspire. Acle Kahney, Daniel Tompkins, Amos WilliamsJay Postones, and James Monteith truly have crafted a phenomenal set of immersive, absorbing sounds.

War Of Being was recorded at Middle Farm Studios in the United Kingdom with Peter Miles (Architects/Sylosis/Dodie) co-producing with the band alongside Katherine Marsh of Choir Noir (Bring Me The Horizon / Architects / Marillion). Assisting with additional programming and production, the band were joined by Randy Slaugh (PeripheryArchitectsDevin Townsend). With additional engineering by Forrester Savell (Karnivool). The artwork, which features characters ‘ex’ and ‘el’ was created in collaboration between AI and human as a means to extend the concept into its presentation.

New album The Awakening enters the KAMELOT legacy as their most massive and diverse offering yet - mixing symphonic, gothic, melodic, progressive and power metal styles while yielding some of the heaviest tracks in the band's history. Having reigned supreme with the release of internationally top-charting melodic metal pinnacles such as The Fourth Legacy (1999), The Black Halo (2005), Silverthorn (2012), Haven (2015, #1 US Hard Rock Albums), and most recently 2018’s acclaimed The Shadow Theory (#2 US Hard Music Albums), KAMELOT’s intense brand of ultramodern gothic and symphonic theatricality is amplified further and with more emotionality than ever on The Awakening.

Showcasing the incomparable, stage-seasoned vocal acrobatics of Tommy Karevik and increasingly airtight, renowned technical teamwork of guitarist Thomas Youngblood, drummer Alex Landenburg, keyboardist Oliver Palotai and bassist Sean TibbettsKAMELOT’s score-like 13th studio album is accented by guest contributions from the likes of Melissa Bonny (Ad Infinitum) and renowned instrumentalists like violinist Florian Janoske and cellist Tina Guo

The Awakening features crystal clear modern production helmed by the band and longtime producer Sascha Paeth, plus mixing and mastering by Jacob Hansen of Hansen Studios.
