Australian alt rockers Closure In Moscow reveal new single 'Keeper of the Lake'

Australian alternative rock group Closure in Moscow have released their new single ‘Keeper of the Lake’ - from their forthcoming album Soft Hell, released 27th October via Bird's Robe Records.

The first record since 2014's Pink Lemonade, you can pre-order Soft Hell here: www.closureinmoscow.bandcamp.com

Watch the video for 'Keeper of the Lake' here: https://youtu.be/9hsMPeBayNw

‘Keeper of the Lake’ is a dark, synth-laden ode to a former love. Singer Christopher de Cinque’s soulful vocals pour out over lyrics filled with guilt, yearning and consternation, whilst the drum and bass interplay of Salvatore Aidone and Duncan Millar lock things down with an impossibly catchy groove. The eclectic guitar work of Manny Zennelli and Michael Barrett recall the warble of 90s VHS tapes mixed with the aura of bands like Air and Portishead, before culminating in a gorgeously melodic solo from Barrett.

About the new single, drummer Salvatore Aidone says: "Probably one of my favourite tracks on the album. I think this is the first time helping to write lyrics and giving this song its back story became this really amazing cathartic experience for me. I also probably for the first time truly understood that songs can mean totally different things for different people and I hold this song close to me, but feel really hopeful that others will find it really relatable."

The new single comes with a washed out performance video produced by Yovozol with filming by Rowey. Blending the aforementioned 90s VHS effects with the quirky and idiosyncratic performance of the band, it’s yet another glimpse into a new era of these genre-shifting chameleons.

The track follows the band’s well-received singles ‘Better Way’, released in March and ‘Primal Sinister’, released in May. All are singles available for streaming on all platforms, as well as downloadable along with album pre-order packages on their merch store.

Having recently completed an Australian tour alongside Deafheaven, the band have also hinted at upcoming tour plans for Australia, the USA and UK, following the release of their new album in October.

Soft Hell is the band’s third album and their first new album in nine years, following Pink Lemonade (2014), First Temple (2009) and their debut EP The Penance and the Patience (2008).

The band have spanned a wide range of genres across their releases – from post-hardcore and earnest punk rock, through to progressive rock, avante-garde and experimental electronic rock.

The new album will be released through independent label Bird’s Robe, home of fellow Aussies sleepmakeswavesWe Lost The SeaToehiderTroldhaugenPluto Jonze and internationals including 65daysofstatic (UK) and Maybeshewill (UK).

About the new album, the band says: "It’s finally here for you to pre-order, the last nine years distilled down to 50 minutes. We’ve put blood, sweat and years into this, and fully believe when you hear these tracks, the wait will have been worth it. We know you have to take our word on that for the time being, but the wait is almost over.

"Getting comfortable with chronic discomfort caused by the choices that fears and trauma lead you to make. This is life in a soft hell. There are enough distractions to stave off facing up to it, you can keep yourself in denial to avoid it, and things can just keep ticking along. Life becomes a fever dream of creature comforts and time killers, floating further into a lake of fire. People come along to pull you out, but they too get burned when you feel too stuck to climb with them.

"Thank you to everyone that had been patiently waiting for new music. Everyone involved with working on this went so above and beyond because they believed in it, and we hope you hear what they heard too."

More about Closure in Moscow:

Closure in Moscow formed in 2006 and soon attracted attention for their dynamic, catchy and energetic take on post-hardcore with their debut ‘albumette’ The Penance and the Patience. They quickly signed to Equal Vision Records and relocated to the USA, recording their full-length debut First Temple with producer Kris Crummett and touring extensively with acts including Coheed and CambriaEmery and Dance Gavin Dance. They returned to Australia for the Homebake Festival in 2009, completed a gruelling trek on the 2010 Warped Tour and all the while First Temple quickly earned a dedicated following for fans of their blistering musicianship, impossibly catchy melodies and formidable grooves.

After returning to Australia in 2011, they joined the roster of TeamTrick management and toured with My Chemical RomanceDead Letter CircusGyroscope, as well as touring Japan with FACT. Following this, they went into a long hibernation, as writing gradually began for what would become the Pink Lemonade album, produced by Tom Larkin and Andrei Eremin.

Emerging with a new rhythm section and a new look and sound, their Frank Zappa inspired record polarised some fans initially, before eventually being acclaimed as one of the most inventive and original records of the year. Finding fans in The Dillinger Escape Plan and Protest the Hero, they toured extensively with both bands. After joining Bird’s Robe in 2015 they also toured further with Coheed and CambriaThe Fall of TroyMew and sleepmakeswaves, whilst writing for their next record.

After another period of slow activity, during which time band members got married, started families and second careers, the band eventually gathered the material for Soft Hell. The process was affected by several welcome interruptions, such as their first US tour in nine years in 2018, marriage and baby news – but also unwelcome interruptions, such as the pandemic, including Melbourne’s extensive lockdowns, which lead to cancelled studio time just as things began to flow.

In the meantime, the band announced vinyl repressings for their back catalogue and saw them promptly sell out within days – with all three records taking turns topping the Australian Independent Charts upon their release. They also took time to head out for their first national Australian tour in five years, alongside post-rockers sleepmakeswaves.

Partnering with talented producer Andrei Eremin, the band worked intensely on the record during the whole of 2022 after finally emerging from lockdown. With Eremin relocating to America, the deadline was clear – and the record was finally mastered in February 2023.

American prog trio Source announce new album; release new single/video

American progressive rock trio Source are set to unveil their weaving riffs and immersive soundscapes to the world, with the release of their new album Emergence on 13th October.  Ahead of this, the band have released their new single and video, 'Bitter', taken from the stunning new album.

Watch the video for 'Bitter' here:  https://youtu.be/2SbGu5TrgCY
Pre-order Emergence here: https://www.listentosource.com/store/emergence-lp-digipak

Vocalist / guitarist Ben Gleason comments on the new single: "'Bitter' is about learning to accept people for where they're at and to let go of my contempt for incompetence. It's about realizing that no matter how much someone frustrates me I still really do want the best for them, because I really do want people to evolve into better versions of themselves."

'Bitter' is the third single from Emergence, the band's fourth studio album, and continues to explore a lot of themes from their previous album Ethereal Self (2021). Emergence is about rebirth, hope, despair, acceptance and letting go.

Vocalist / guitarist Ben Gleason discusses the new album: "Emergence is about undergoing a huge transformation in the way I see the world because of my experiences during COVID. It starts with an expression of the freedom, and hope that I experienced during lockdown. I had just moved to the mountains and lockdown was kind of like a long wilderness vacation for me. I hadn’t experienced that much time off and that little responsibility in close to a decade. That experience showed me a new level of happiness which I didn’t know was possible and it inspired me.

"From that place I was able to do a lot of analysis on my early life and how it shaped me. I was able to find a new perspective on who I am. When lockdown ended and I had to reintegrate into society I was overcome by sadness, depression and anxiety because of how disconnected and hostile everyone had become towards each other. I had a very hard time finding happiness again after lockdown and it took almost two years. In that time I learned the true value of connection with other people and the power that art and creativity have over despair. Because of those experiences I also learned how to forgive those who have wronged me and who made me seek solitude throughout my life. The album ends with a story of acceptance and letting go."

Formed in 2013 Benjamin Gleason, Justin Mirarck and Pascal Faurie create consciousness-based music through the exploration of flotation tanks, philosophy, meditation, yoga, and other embodiment and mindfulness practices. Their music is an expression of the sensations experienced on this planet, the profoundness of the human experience and the beauty of all that is.

Entwining intelligent composition with melody at the core, you can hear a wide range of influences including Tool, Opeth and Chevelle.

Their debut album Return To Nothing was released in September 2016 on Pavement Entertainment and received a hugely positive response from music fans and press. Accolades included being named Metal Nexus' #1 best album of 2016 and heavy Music HQ's #9 best progressive metal album of 2016, and their video for single 'Memories of Yesterday' was supported by Axs TV, Promo Only, Club Com network and many more.

The success of the record earned them opening slots on tours with Hellyeah, In Flames and From Ashes to New, firmly establishing them in the US rock scene. 2019 saw the band release their stunning second album Totality, which achieved top reviews with Angry Metal Guy claiming "we could be witnessing the birth of the next great progressive metal band". Their third album Ethereal Self was released in 2021 and is based on rejecting the conditioning through fear that is forced on people from government, religious and media institutions.

UK rock trio Blue Stragglers announce new EP, release new single

Electrifying UK rock trio Blue Stragglers have announced their new Fool's Errand EP, to be released 10th November via Hassle Records.

To celebrate the news, the band have streamed their new single 'Existential Crisis In A Nightclub'.

Pre-order the EP and stream the single here: https://hasslerecords.ffm.to/blue-stragglers

Fool's Errand will be pressed and limited to 300 12'' vinyl copies. Purchase of the vinyl includes a ticket bundle for the band's headline show on 8th November at The Black Heart, Camden.

The band comment: "The alt rock brother to ‘Don’t You Want Me Baby’ Is, by proxy, exactly what it says on the tin - a catchy XTC inspired jagged love story gone wrong.

"I used to work in the same nightclub that I used to drink in on my nights off. The kind of club you always say you’ll never go back to after stumbling home from at 2am, only to repeat the pointless rollercoaster all over again the next day.

"An anthem for anyone stuck in the same rut being lectured by drunk people you don’t know wondering if this is all life can offer.

"First world problems? Perhaps. But who isn’t a hot mess at 2am at a nightclub bar, get over it."

Blue Stragglers, consisting of Lee Martin (vocals/guitar), Ali Waite (bass) and Andy Head (drums/backing vocals) have done things on their own terms since their earliest days. From the get-go, the industrious group were keen to find a HQ. So, when their local pub The Dunn Horse closed, the band managed to strip the place before it was converted into apartments, and they transported the entire pub interior into Lee’s house. From this eccentric setting, the band have regularly curated and hosted gigs at the house, newly named as The Denne Horse

Coming from Horsham, England, Blue Stragglers are here to turn your head and leave their mark. The threesome appear to run on a mixture of adrenaline and telepathy, combined with an unbridled gift for creating supremely captivating fuzzed-up bangers.

In addition to a plethora of talent, the power trio also have an undeniably strong work ethic and have relentlessly gigged throughout the country, racking up prominent supports with WolfmotherZakk Wylde’s Black Label SocietyKid KapichiWe Are The Oceanand Phoxjaw, as well as a breath-taking appearance at 2022’s Download Festival. Last year, the three-piece also delivered their self-titled debut EP to high praise from BBC IntroducingKerrang! RadioPlanet Rock and Gigslutz among othersEncouraged by the success of the release, Blue Stragglers were snapped up by esteemed independent label, Hassle Records (Brutus, CaseyIthaca).

The foundations are now set, and Blue Stragglers continue to make their mark with 'Existential Crisis In A Nightclub' and previous single 'Running It Dry'. The tracks showcases the band's already-trademark fuzz groove - an explosively infectious statement. The start of something new. A sea of change. A tidal event. 2023 will be filled with touring and the launch of the band’s new EP. Blue Stragglers have been waiting for you.

Swedish modern metal breakthrough act Orbit Culture stream album title-track video on release day

Orbit Culture’s highly anticipated new album, Descent, is released today, 18th August. This new effort is loaded with their unique blend of captivating song-writing with infectious hooks and crushing riffs. To celebrate the release, the band have unveiled a video for the album’s title-track.

Watch the 'Descent' official music video here: https://youtu.be/nqFgNsTcQTo

Stream and purchase the album on CD and vinyl here: https://linktr.ee/orbitculture

Niklas Karlsson (guitars/vocals) states: "With the video for ‘Descent,' you are fully engaged in the madness. It’s the pillar of feeling disgusted and chained by your own obsessive desires, whatever it may be. You are stuck in your own castle of self hate.

“We wanted this album to sound as big and aggressive as possible, while maintaining a pleasant listening experience. I took a lot of inspiration from the movie
Dune, not because of the story or anything, but because the combination of imagery and music created this vast picture and we wanted to convey that epic feel with this new album.

"Spread over the whole album is of course, once again, a lot of metaphors. In reality, it’s just about being more closed up and defensive about the things you feel as you’re descending into madness. However, at the end of the album, being defensive was all along just being caring for your closest ones. It was better to walk alone and destroy yourself, rather than bring down anyone else trying to help you. It’s dark and it’s raw, but it’s only a perspective of me seeing the world at certain times of the year, and it helps to get it out there once in awhile.”

Following a huge year of festivals and touring, including opening the In Flames world tour, Orbit Culture show no signs of slowing. The band next play a number of EU festivals and select dates before heading to the UK to support Trivium and Bleed From Within. Dates:

Chart-topping prog metal multi-instrumentalist Pomegranate Tiger releases new single 'Metasphere'

Prog metal sensation Pomegranate Tiger has revealed his new single 'Metasphere', another glimpse of forthcoming album All Input Is Error.

All Input Is Error, the artist's first album in eight years, will be released 7th September. Pre-order All Input Is Errorhttps://bio.site/pomegranatetiger

Watch the singles here, the first two tracks from the album:

'Devils to Ourselves': https://youtu.be/_KWWuk1XPdg
'Dagger Dance': https://youtu.be/lM3DteDyS3M

Pomegranate Tiger comments:

"'Metasphere' is about the battle between humans & AI over our entire world of art - what art is & what is considered art, our place in it all, and if we can all fit in here together.

"Is human art the only kind of art that exists? Why or why not? What is the definition of art? Should AI have a role in making art? Should it be helping artists create? Can you call AI art, art?

"'Metasphere' literally translates to "Métis" & "Sfyri" in Greek, with "Métis" referring to the goddess of Wisdom, Good Council & cunning, while "Sfyri" quite literally meaning "hammer". Hammers are rich in symbolism and are known to personify building and creating and thus in short 'Meta-Sphere', 'The wise cunning hammer' refers to the intelligent, yet sharp and potentially dangerous "modern tool" A.I. can be in our society.

"Quite literally, AI experts predict in less than 10 years, any input by humanity into any certain domain of world knowledge will be futile.
All Input is Error AI will make new discoveries...far greater than any human. Will it also make the greatest known music & art known to mankind? Will we as people accept this? Will it eventually be the norm?

"We are quite literally at the iPhone 1 moment, within the scope of AI's entire history. The next 10 years is completely unimaginable. Buckle up!"

Pomegranate Tiger is a one-man tour-de-force of musical creativity and energy. Founded in 2010, Pomegranate Tiger (Martin Andres) released his first record, Entities, in 2013. Entities was an underground sensation, garnering millions of streams, and became the #1 metal bestseller on Bandcamp, and #11 best-selling album across all genres. The album also broke the iTunes Top 100 Rock albums chart.

Pomegranate Tiger soon followed the success of Entities with his 2015 album Boundless, which received praise from The GuardianTotal GuitarMetal InjectionMetalSucks and more. Boundless became the #1 best-selling metal album for a number of weeks on Bandcamp and again broke the iTunes Top 100 Rock.

All Input Is Error carries the torch of Pomegranate Tiger's storied legacy, challenging musical conventions and embarking on a melodic odyssey and rhythmic stampede that transcends time. Pomegranate Tiger is set to captivate listeners with his unbridled creativity and unwavering dedication to pushing sonic and technological boundaries: and the new album is a typically heady, future-facing return from this one-of-a-kind brain.

Australian dual bass prog trio The Omnific release 'Phat Mackerel' single and announce world tour

Globally-renowned Australian instrumental prog trio The Omnific have revealed their progressive masterpiece 'Phat Mackerel', out now via Wild Thing Records. The track comes as the band’s first new offering since their acclaimed 2021 debut album, Escapades, which cemented The Omnific’s status as torchbearers of the next generation of progressive rock and metal, thanks to their unparalleled musicianship and unmistakable, earthmoving dual-bass lineup.

Stream 'Phat Mackerel' here: https://ffm.to/phatmackerel
Watch the video here: https://youtu.be/8-A3o5me3Cg

By eschewing guitars for a second bass, the supernatural intertwining duality of bassists Matt Fack (Fackrell) and Toby Peterson-Stewart, backed by flamboyant drummer Jerome Lematua, tap into this distinct frequency that sings in ways that vocals could not replicate; a constant that has remained true since the band’s formation in 2016. The Omnific’s mosaic of progressive rock, djent, funk, and synth-driven soundscapes has captivated a worldwide following, with the young virtuosic band accruing millions of streams and views on Spotify and YouTube, respectively.

The Omnific have built a reputation for delivering stunning technical live shows that include international headlining tours, and sharing stages with the likes of Between The Buried And MeIntervals, and Twelve Foot Ninja. This year, the group toured with Ne Obliviscaris in Europe, and Polyphia on their sold-out Australian tour; following Polyphia’s own Clay Gober featuring on the Escapades hit track Antecedent.

The Omnific will be touring their new single with their recently-announced 46-date Phat Mackerel World Tour, covering Australia, Europe, UK, USA, and Canada.

The EU / UK dates will see the Australians perform at legendary German festivals Reeperbahn and Euroblast, plus headline dates.

A keen eye may catch that the name "Phat Mackerel" comes from a spoonerism of Fackrell’s name, one which he has been tagged with for his entire life. Now years later and with the trio’s combined power, The Omnific slap and tap their way through virtual realms, seeking to finally settle the score with the track's titular foe. Adam Bentley (Felix MartinArch Echo) and Ermin Hamidovic (PliniPeripheryDevin Townsend) return for mixing and mastering duties respectively, injecting this latest single with the same shine and pop that made Escapades so immediately visceral. Airy atmospheric textures serve as a scale-setting backdrop to the dexterous wallop of twin bass guitars and the precise punch of percussion, culminating in an epic display of technical ability, unbridled creativity, and the quirky charisma that The Omnific imbues in its craft.

Debuting alongside 'Phat Mackerel' is an accompanying music video for the track. Captured by director Jamie McVicker (PliniI Built The Sky), the nostalgic visual accompaniment depicts The Omnific’s mission to defeat The Mack, with the trio’s quirky sense of humor and passion for retro gaming immediately shining through, even capping off with a boss fight against Phat Mackerel himself. As if he were Captain Ahab to Phat Mackerel’s Moby Dick, Fack concludes, “Born to be Matt Fackrell, forced to be Phat Mackerel. After a life filled with the name Phat Mackerel, it's now time to eradicate the fish once and for all!”

“a bright future for the instrumental outfit” - Metal Hammer (UK)
“a veritable masterclass in the art of the bass player” - Prog Magazine (UK)
“The Omnific never cease to entice, excite and amaze” - The Music (AU)

"'Gaping Wounds of Earth' is a jarring and chaotic exploration into what it feels like to be uncomfortable in your own skin," the band comment. "The spiral of a broken human continues. As in all our work, there is no light at the end of this tunnel."

Formed in 2017, END's From the Unforgiving Arms of God EP spawned the fan-favourite 'Necessary Death,' and led to them signing with label Closed Casket Activities. Highlighted by 'Covet Not' and 'Absence', the band bulldosed the senses with their 2020 full-length debut, Splinters From an Ever-Changing FaceBrooklyn Vegan hailed 'Pariah' as "an absolutely filthy dose of modern metalcore," and Kerrang! went as far as to describe their debut LP as "catharsis fed through a distortion pedal and shaped into a dense, destructive wrecking ball." Perhaps, Invisible Oranges put it best: "These gentlemen have come together to summon a fury seldom heard on any album from the realms of hardcore, grind, and black metal…"

In 2023, the members congregated once again to write and record what would become this sophomore release.

"Part of the goal was to do things our way," states Putney. "We didn't want to lean on our influences too heavily, whether it's in terms of production, guitar tone, arrangement, or other elements. We were like, 'Let's just make a record that sounds like END.' I feel like there's more of an identity to the band than there has ever been on this record."

The final result is a unique blend of HM2-driven rind and metallic hardcore crossover with moments of industrial chaos over ten tracks. Featuring guest vocal appearances by J.R. Hayes (Pig Destroyer), Debbie Gough (Heriot), and Dylan Walker (Full of Hell), this Graphic Nature Audio recording clocks in over 30 minutes of unhinged aggression and grind. Produced and engineered by Will Putney and featuring the art of Alex Eckman-Lawn, this release pushes the complexity of END both sonically and visually. Vinyl comes packaged in a ten panel die-cut jacket, pressed on deluxe coloured vinyl and with a digital download code.

END will embark on a U.S. tour with Full of Hell in the autumn.

About Dirty Sound Magnet:

Switzerland’s Dirty Sound Magnet are an unstoppable, unbreakable force of rock. The uniqueness of their mesmerizing music and kinetic live performances has won audiences the world over. Their show is unpredictable; shamanic stage presence, rock star charisma, instrumental prowess, poetic vocals, tantalizing dynamics. As teenagers hailing from Fribourg, Stavros Dzodzos (guitar, vocals), Marco Mottolini (bass, backing vocals), and Maxime Cosandey (drums, backing vocals) devoured hundreds of albums, while rehearsing with great intensity. Their passion rapidly turned into an addiction and total dedication to their art, crafting a sound that has been likened to a fusion of Led Zeppelin's energy and instrumental virtuosity, Iggy Pop's raw energy, and The Doors' mysticism, additionally imbued with modern psych influences of bands like Tame Impala and King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard. This stylistic pedigree, along with thought-provoking lyrics reflecting contemporary social turmoil, Dirty Sound Magnet have created their own distinct musical formula.

In only a few short years since the band's formation, Dirty Sound Magnet swiftly established themselves within Europe’s burgeoning psychedelic rock scene, extensively touring the continent throughout 2017 to 2020. Since the release of the band’s third and most successful studio album DSM-III, Dirty Sound Magnet have performed over 130 shows, including sold-out tours in the UK, Germany, and Mexico, won the Swiss Live Talents award for ‘Best Swiss Rock Band’ for the second time, previously taking it home for the band's 2017 debut album, Western Lies.

Dirty Sound Magnet's music is in a constant state of evolution, and their upcoming record, Dreaming In Dystopia, due on October 20, 2023, via Australian label Wild Thing Records, is a testament to their artistic progression.
