Florence Black say:

"The song is full of powerful imagery and metaphors. A candle bleeding light, suggests that something is slowly dying. Being on the back roads, which suggests being lost and alone. A lot of the lyrics lean towards finding the strength to stand up for yourself and to learn from your mistakes."

Returning to work with renowned producer Romesh DodangodaBED OF NAILS follows Florence Black's charting debut full-length WEIGHT OF THE WORLD, which cemented them as one of the most electrifying names in UK rock.

The band comment on the new album:

"Since our debut album release in 2021, we have been really busy touring in the UK and EU and, alongside our busiest touring year in 2022, we had written and demoed more than fifty songs. We spent a long time selecting and arranging our songs and feel that they are not just our best to date, but also the ones that show our development as a band. We are incredibly proud of what we have achieved. BED OF NAILS is based around the theme of love. The good, the bad and everything in between that emotion. We had an amazing time in the studio recording it with Romesh. He has helped us to create the exact sound we were aiming for and we believe that we have achieved exactly what we had imagined the album to be."

Florence Black have performed at some of Europe’s biggest festivals this summer, including HellfestResurrection and Sweden Rock Festival. The band will conclude 2023 with an appearance at Planet Rockstock

The trio will also embark on a UK headline tour in support of BED OF NAILS, set to take place in February 2024.

Singles from the album achieved their own successes: 'CAN YOU FEEL IT?' and fan-favourite 'SUN AND MOON' both became ‘Track of the Week’ in Classic Rock Magazine and both placed highly in the iTunes download chart on release. 'SUN AND MOON' was also added to Planet Rock Radio’s A-list and was highly praised by Kerrang! Magazine.

Florence Black kicked off 2022 with tours alongside Kris Barras Band and Ugly Kid Joe, followed by a tour as special guests on Steel Panther's Res:Erections tour. Fightstar announce headline show at OVO Arena Wembley

Fightstar became one of the biggest cult sensations in the UK’s early 2000s alt-rock scene with a Top 10 breakthrough hit (‘Paint Your Target’), two Top 20 albums (Be Human and Behind The Devil’s Back) and two Kerrang! Award nominations (for Best British Band and Best British Newcomer). Although they haven’t played since 2015, there has always been a devoted fanbase clamouring for their return. Now those calls have been answered with the news that Fightstar will play their biggest ever headline show - and their first gig in over eight years - at the OVO Arena Wembley on 22nd March 2024.

Fightstar still consists of their original line-up - Charlie Simpson (vocals/guitar), Alex Westaway (guitar), Dan Haigh (bass) and Omar Abidi (drums) - who formed the band to explore their shared passion for influences such as Deftones, Taking Back SundaySilverchair and Mono.

Charlie Simpson says: “Next year marks 20 years since Fightstar played our first show in a tiny nightclub in Northampton, mainly in front of friends and family. To be sat here today about to play our biggest ever headline show at London’s legendary Wembley Arena is something that is hard for us to comprehend. We are so thankful to all our fans who have been so loyal to us and we can’t wait to celebrate this milestone with them. This will be a very special night for all of us.”

Fightstar will be joined by special guests Twin Atlantic and Loathe

Tickets for the show will go on sale from 9am GMT on Friday 10th November: https://biglink.to/FightstarTickets2024

Fightstar debuted in 2005 with the EP They Liked You Better When You Were Dead, which they followed with four albums: Grand Unification (2006), One Day Son, This Will All Be Yours (2007), Be Human (2009) and Behind The Devil’s Back (2015). Tracks such as ‘Palahniuk’s Laughter’, ‘Paint Your Target’, ‘Overdrive’ and ‘The English Way’ attracted a diehard following, leading to headline shows including the O2 Academy Brixton, The Troxy and the O2 Forum Kentish Town, as well as festivals such as Download and Reading & Leeds.

Since they were last together in 2015, Charlie Simpson has returned to fill arenas with Busted, continued a successful solo career and won The Masked SingerAlex Westaway and Dan Haigh have released two further albums with their band Gunship, who have collaborated with everyone from John Carpenter to Dave Lombardo, while Omar Abidi has established a successful career as a sound engineer for a variety of major events, featured in Guy Ritchie’s version of Aladdin and drummed in a viral Argos advert campaign.

Legendary psych-rock band Gong celebrate album release with new video

Legendary psych-rock troupe Gong celebrate the release of their long-awaited new album Unending Ascending with new single/video ‘My Guitar Is A Spaceship’ - what can only be described as the essence of Gong in visual form.

Take the intergalactic voyage with Gong here: https://youtu.be/RrJRaWzXvW8
Order the album and stream here: https://gong.lnk.to/unending

‘My Guitar Is A Spaceship’ was the first track to be written for the new album, as Kavus Torabi explains: "The song came into being in the spring of 2022 and we actually debuted it on the Glade Stage at Glastonbury Festival that summer. It was the first song we wrote for the new album. More than anything we’ve done together, it seemed to pop out fully formed. That morning none of it existed and then an hour later all of it did."

He continues: “I don’t think we were even trying to write a tune at that point! What a feeling, we sort of couldn’t believe we came up with it. I said “Man, can you imagine debuting this song at Glastonbury Festival?”. Sure enough, two days later we received a message asking us if we’d like to headline the Glade Stage that year. At this point the existence of magic is not even up for debate.

"The tune is just one propulsive, cycling riff that seems to blast us and the audience upward, hence the lyrics, from which we took the title of the album. Once we’d written this, we knew the rest of the album would be great, it kind of defined the direction we would take as we wrote the remaining seven songs. I honestly can’t conceive of a
Gong gig, moving forward, where we don’t play it."

Following the success of 2019’s The Universe Also CollapsesGong’s intergalactic voyage has once more entered Earth’s orbit with their new album Unending Ascending.

Out now via Kscope, the new album promises another mind-expanding set of songs. Opener ‘Tiny Galaxies’ crackles with the electricity of supercharged sixties psych-pop, while ‘My Guitar Is A Spaceship’ is as close to an anthem as anything Gong have previously recorded. This uptempo, single-riff stomper is already a live favourite, garnering a positive reaction from a crowd of 90,000 Blur fans at Wembley Stadium in July 2023, when Gong frontman Kavus Torabi dropped it into his DJ set before Paul Weller took to the stage.

‘Ship of Ishtar’ is a rapt cosmic hymn where Gong make time itself stand still. Jet streams of kaleidoscopic melodies envelop ‘O, Arcturus’, to be followed by the lively polyrhythmic angularity of ‘All Clocks Reset’. ‘Choose Your Goddess’, a surprisingly muscular slice of ritualistic trance rock, ratchets up the intensity yet further. On ‘Lunar Invocation’ the band summons the Moon deities of yore with ululating feedback and squalling cymbals before the post-credits of ‘Asleep Do We Lay’ lull lugubriously, gently beginning the cycle all over again.

Gong’s Unending Ascending is available on CD / Black LP and Digitally (sorry, the Limited Edition Green LP sold out!).

Gong will be appearing alongside Ozric Tentacles on a co-headline tour throughout the UK in November/December 2023 as well as ‘The Last Blast’ Tour in 2024.

About Gong:

The universe of Gong began in 1969 when Daevid Allen was inspired by a profound psychedelic vision. A founder member of Soft MachineAllen incorporated his spiritual and metaphysical leanings into an evolving collective. More a mythology than a band in the conventional sense, Gong established itself as one of the most unique, innovative and experimental rock groups of the seventies, through an exploratory mix of rock, jazz and psychedelia with elements of mysticism and surrealism, unafraid to deliver its messages directly, obliquely or whimsically. The current incarnation, who were put together by Daevid after his swansong album with GongI See You, honour his intention that Gong do not die with him, urging the band to “carry it on into new unknown heights and depths far beyond anything I could ever imagine myself”.

The collective of Kavus TorabiDave SturtFabio GolfettiIan East and Cheb Nettles is the most stable in Gong's illustrious history, having written, recorded and toured together for eight years since Allen's passing. A dynamic, powerful and explosive live band, their music draws from the credo of the original Gong while remaining committed to pushing the composition, performances and message into new realms, paying no mind to nostalgia. Gong in 2023 continue the ethics, attitude and lifestyle that was always woven into the fabric of the band.

Fast-rising UK rockers Amongst Liars release brand new single 'Ready for This?'

Rising UK rockers Amongst Liars just keep upping the tempo, this time with new single 'Ready for This?'. Following recent single 'The Shameful' (voted Metal Hammer Track Of The Week in September), this new stadium-ready anthem further justifies the aching anticipation for the band's upcoming second album Design, due March 2024.

The band comment: "'Ready for This' has a pretty simple premise and is written about taking risks in life, being true to yourself and not taking s**t from people who criticise and try to put you down. It comes from recent lived personal experience, so to us is very uplifting when we perform it."

Amongst Liars have just come off a hugely successful two week tour supporting Theory of a Deadman across the UK. While on tour, the band also raised over £600 for the Metal for Good charity, of which they are ambassadors, by donating a percentage of their merch sales and auctioning a signed guitar.

After supporting Ayron Jones on his UK club tour in November 2022, Amongst Liars are now scheduled to go out with Ayron on a French tour in February 2024.

Eastbourne/Brighton based Amongst Liars formed in early 2020 and play a unique blend of energetic, modern rock. Critically acclaimed debut album Amongst Liars was released in July 2022, receiving widespread support from BBC IntroducingKerrang! and Planet Rock, with singles A-listed on Primordial Radio. Spotify streams are currently hitting the 500K mark, while their YouTube views amount to over 200K.

The band won the prestigious Great Music Stories ‘Band of the Year 2021’ and 'Album of the Year 2022', completed two headline tours and supported Theory Of A Deadman on a full UK tour, as well as another UK tour with Ayron Jones. They will be spending the rest of 2023 putting the finishing touches to their upcoming second album Design.

VEXED are riding high after releasing their second beast of an album, Negative Energy, earlier this year via Napalm Records, to rave reviews worldwide, and a sold-out UK headline tour. The trio are also in the running for a Grammy nomination for their single 'Anti-Fetish'.

Watch the band's most recent single 'Lay down your flowers', ft. Lochie Keogh (Alpha Wolf), here: https://youtu.be/Ij7wvcMyrR4

Impressing with extreme vocals and bombarding drums, the new video is yet another example of one of the UK's hottest newcomers in alternative metal.

'X my <3 (Hope to die)': https://youtu.be/fxMBSXSOhJU
'Anti-Fetish': https://youtu.be/BrVx05brvIk

Negative Energy is the pinnacle of VEXED's musicianship, with gripping, profound and brave lyricism. Instead of opting for the forced positivity many of their contemporaries demonstrate, the Hertfordshire trio channel every ounce of their Negative Energy into these 13 tracks - recharging themselves for an uphill battle.

Stream/purchase Negative Energy here: https://lnk.to/VEXED-NegativeEnergy/napalmrecords

VEXED formed in 2019, consisting of vocalist Megan Targett, guitarist Jay Bacon, drummer Willem Mason-Geraghty and bassist Al Harper. The band quickly made a name for themselves across the UK metal scene with their hard-hitting sound and dynamic live performances.

Turning heads with their debut singles - including the fearsome 'Elite' featuring Thy Art Is Murder’s CJ McMahon VEXED quickly created a palpable underground buzz. In 2020, they signed with the independent label Napalm Records, and released their debut full-length album, Culling Culture in May the following year.

Culling Culture features ten tracks that showcase VEXED's signature sound, which combines punishing breakdowns, technical guitar riffs, and Megan Targett's fierce vocals. The album's lyrics explore themes of societal issues such as mental health and social justice and have been praised for their honesty and relatability.

The album was a commercial success and received widespread critical acclaim. VEXED's live shows have also garnered a reputation for being intense and energetic, with the band earning support slots with notable acts such as Spiritbox and In Flames, among others.

Now VEXED look to their second album, to be released 23rd June via Napalm Records. A punishing listen, from haunting intro track 'PTSD', which sets the stage of dread ahead of the carnage to come, all the way through 'Lay down your flowers' featuring Alpha Wolf vocalist Lochie Keogh and intense finale 'Nepotism'.

Like the best bands, VEXED on Negative Energy blends fury with emotion. 'Default' displays lead singer Megan Targett's high-soaring clean vocals juxtaposed against her menacing deep growls, while the album's most emotional offering, 'It's Not The End', serves as a magnificent dedication to a loved one passing away, truly manifesting their legacy.

A stunning, devastating musical conduit - Negative Energy ventilates VEXED's pain-stricken burdens and breathes life into their fresh approach, delivered with a thunderous vengeance.

Alt-rock quartet El Moono reveal music video for new single 'Chains'

Alternative quartet El Moono have revealed the music video for their monstrous new single 'Chains' (Lockjaw Records), their first material in eighteen months.

Watch 'Chains' here: https://youtu.be/arCLDjZFsS8

Stream here: https://elmoono.lnk.to/chainsPR

The band comment: "'Chains' is the riff-loaded, angry yet emotive first peek at our debut album. The track is themed around emotionally abusive relationships, and is already a mainstay of our setlists, starting mosh pits at ArcTanGentRADAR and Burn it Down Festivals already, proving its place as a fan-favourite. Mastered by Acle Kahney from TesseracT, recorded at Middle Farm Studios, we feel 'Chains' is the perfect way to begin the new era."

The single marks a new beginning for El Moono, following their highly-regarded 2022 Temple Corrupted EP (released via Lockjaw Records). Previous tours alongside Black PeaksHaggard Cat, St Pierre Snake Invasion, and Press to MECO marked El Moono as a band to watch, well before the release of the EP which garnered notable praise from Metal Hammer, Kerrang! and Guitar World. With influences of rock, hardcore, metal and grunge, the band's off-kilter and oftentimes mind-bending riffs, emotive songs and expressive lyricism combine to create a sound that’s difficult to pigeonhole.

Alt-pop trio Exploring Birdsong release stunning cover of Deftones' 'Diamond Eyes'

Acclaimed young alt-pop/prog trio Exploring Birdsong have released their stunning version of the Deftones classic, 'Diamond Eyes'.

Watch the video to 'Diamond Eyes' here:  https://youtu.be/AsVRJblr8O4

Stream the single here: https://orcd.co/exploringbirdsong_diamondeyes

“Collectively, 'Diamond Eyes' is one of our favourite songs of all time," comment the band. "It really feels like a song that is within the same realm of what we try to do as a band too, which made it in turn feel like a perfect song for us to put our own spin on. The weight of the riffs in the original are so crushing, but what we feel really makes this song so special is the chorus, so having the focus of our version be the harmony and melody felt like the most ‘us’ thing to do.”

Exploring Birdsong's version of 'Diamond Eyes' follows the band's second EP Dancing in the Face of Danger (March 2023, Long Branch Records), released to rave reviews worldwide. The band wanted to draw a line in the sand following Dancing in the Face of Danger to mark the start of a new chapter as a band, and, through coincidence, eventually ended up working with a new production team (Tom Peters - engineering and mixing & Grant Berry - mastering) which has helped bookend the Dancing in the Face of Danger period. They comment: "We wanted to experiment sonically before heading into full length album territory, which is why we think it feels different to anything we’ve released previously."

The young group will join Katatonia as special guest for their shows in Ireland next week - the first live performances since their European debut at Euroblast Festival (Cologne, DE) and inaugural headline tour across the UK in September 2021, including London, Manchester and Birmingham, and following successful support tours with the likes of Sleep Token and Thank You Scientist.

Rarely are new groups as exciting, talented or unique as Exploring Birdsong. Straddling pop, progressive rock and uncategorisable genre-blending beauty, the band are unplaceable for the most part, but bring to mind elements of Kate BushSleep Token, Everything Everything and Agent Fresco.

Rarely too do you hear voices as captivating as frontwoman Lynsey Ward’s. Powerful, controlled, and spine-chillingly tender, Lynsey’s vocals help mark Exploring Birdsong as a prospect to watch, from the release of their acclaimed debut The Thing With Feathers (2019, Long Branch Records) to 2023's EP Dancing in the Face of Danger.

Swedish metal visionaries EVERGREY release new video from upcoming anniversary album

EVERGREY, Sweden's finest export of melodic metal darkness, will celebrate 30 years of mastery with their anniversary album, From Dark Discoveries to Heartless Portraits, (released 15th December 2023 via Napalm Records).

Today, the group - centred around mastermind Tom S. Englund - one of the most distinctive vocals in metal - take devotees back to their successful European tour stop in Lyon, France last year with a live version and visualiser video for their intense song 'Recreation Day'.

The band comment: "’Recreation Day' is one of those songs that have stood the test of time. It’s like 20 years old and still a favourite among our fans!"

Watch the video here: https://youtu.be/ojtyKXvOQkQ

Pre-order: lnk.to/Evergrey-FDDTHP/napalmrecords

From Dark Discoveries to Heartless Portraits will be available in various formats - including an extremely limited 112-page hardcover book and CD digisleeve bundle, with rare photos, behind the scenes stories and exclusive liner notes from the band.

The album wraps up three decades of EVERGREY’s journey, carries some very special treats along with it, and cements their position as one of the most genre-defining bands of our time. From Dark Discoveries to Heartless Portraits unites EVERGREY’s past and present and paves the way for their next chapter - and an even brighter future to come.

The band state: "Make sure you get a hold of the limited edition book as we have worked intensely for months to gather all the photos and write all the stories for each of the albums, it’s an insanely cool product to have and to remember all of these years together with us! Here’s to another 30!"

In addition to live versions of recent tracks like 'Call Out The Dark' and 'Where August Mourns', the record travels down memory lane with 'My Allied Ocean', 'A Touch Of Blessing', 'Recreation Day' and 'King Of Errors'. The second half of the offering contains soulful piano vocal versions of four songs from the latest full-length ('Save Us', 'Call Out The Dark', 'Blindfolded' and 'Midwinter Calls'), and demo versions of the same tracks, topped by a instrumental version of 'A Silent Arc'.

Since their very first record, 1998’s The Dark Discovery, the Swedish entity around founder, singer and guitarist Tom S. Englund - one of the most distinctive vocals in metal - has enthralled fans and critics alike with their matchless skill in merging progressive heaviness with intense melodic metal, topped by gripping lyrics that run shivers down one’s spine. To date, the band has gathered numerous worldwide chart positions with thirteen studio albums in total, and in 2022, the five-piece proved again - even after 30 years of existence - that their creativity sees no bounds with the release of the flawless A Heartless Portrait (The Orphean Testament).

Australian quintet Future Static release video for alt-pop-core sensation ‘Chemical Lobotomy’

Melbourne metal quintet Future Static have released their fiery and anthemic rager of a new single, 'Chemical Lobotomy'. Paired with an accompanying music video, ‘Chemical Lobotomy’ is every bit as visceral and emotive as its predecessors ‘Roach Queen’ and ‘The Hourglass’, all taken from the band's upcoming debut album Liminality, due for release on 24th November via Wild Thing Records.

‘Chemical Lobotomy’ erupts with thrashing rhythmic hits and rapid guitar riffs, as lead singer Amariah Cook forges a powerful and passionate performance against the metal backdrop. The song's musical and lyrical themes circle around the communal lack of self-control and indulgence in bad habits over isolation and lockdown, while also highlighting the importance of friendship in these times. Similar to their last release ‘The Hourglass’, Amariah and bassist Kira Neil's powerful vocal connection throughout the song brings an enchanting energy to this release.

Amariah talks about the inspiration:

“It's no mystery that this song is about getting a little too excited with substances during lockdown. It was a boring time and, apart from writing music, there really wasn't much else to do. I had a massive bout of inspiration and decided to start writing the vocals to the instrumental (written by Ryan) when I was suffering from a massive hangover. I got up out of bed and decided to write about my lack of control in the hopes it would help me understand why I was putting myself through this and how to get out of it. As the song developed, I realised that if I just sang the chorus a third time at the end, it would allude to nothing changing, whereas I wanted to write something ending on the positive side of these experiences: the connection with my friends and how we were all in this situation together."

The video, filmed and directed by the master Colin Jeffs (Make Them SufferAlpha Wolf), is a lot more focused on performance and aesthetic, unlike Future Static’s previous releases which revolved around the narrative.

An innate fusion of metalcore, progressive metal, alternative rock, and pop sensibilities, Liminality is exemplified by its profound singles: visceral cut ‘Roach Queen’, the effervescent ‘Plated Gold’ - featuring guest vocals from Sean Harmanis of Make Them Suffer, and acclaimed earlier singles ‘Waves’ and ‘Venenosa’.

Liminality also highlights the group's breathtaking lead vocal tandem, with bassist Kira Neil showcasing her vocal talents and magical chemistry alongside the electrifying Melbourne-born, Barcelona-raised Amariah Cook, underlined on the progressive labyrinth ‘The Hourglass’, and ‘Chemical Lobotomy’. The album was produced, mixed, and mastered by Christopher Vernon (WindwakerThe Beautiful Monument). The artwork was helmed by guitarist Jack Smith, with Liminality portraying the space between materialising and deteriorating in serene nothingness.

The group recently concluded their first international jaunt across Europe and the UK, including appearances at German festivals Reeperbahn and Euroblast. On album release week, Future Static will be joining German superstars Electric Callboy on their sold-out Australian tour, with future international dates on the horizon; including the recently announced RADAR Festival in the UK.

Following on from taking the Australian live circuit by storm, the release of Liminality marks the next step in Future Static's hugely promising career.
