Alternative Brightonian quartet El Moono have released their new single 'Haunting', another glimpse of their forthcoming debut album, The Waking Sun, to be released 10th May via Lockjaw Records.

The band comment: "'Haunting' was written from the perspective of my partner. The lyrics address the toxicity of body dysmorphia, and immerse the listener in the body of someone experiencing it. The shoegaze-influenced choruses of 'Haunting' are punctuated by Chris’ blastbeat sections, while Jim’s overdubs of a Rhodes keyboard re-amped through tonnes of reverb are providing the spacey highs. We didn’t have the opportunity to record a real choir for the breakdown, but we layered multiple Zac's alongside vocals from Rebecca Tranter."

The Waking Sun was recorded at Middle Farm Studios with Sam Conevey, and have meticulously carved a fully immersive experience for listeners to explore. El Moono will be unveiling the album at a special session at Dolby Screening Room, London, 8th May, where the album's 360-degree spatial Dolby Atmos mix will deliver depth, clarity, and sonic details unheard of elsewhere. The band will also be giving a Q&A - and tickets will be offered to the first 50 album pre-orders. An additional session will be held on 17th May in Brighton.

Last autumn saw Creeper amplify the scope of their blackened tapestry of sounds, as their latest album Sanguivore demonically danced across an even broader array of influences. ‘Lovers Led Astray’ plays to the anthemic side of the Sanguivore spectrum. William Von Ghould’s devilish croon paints a blood-soaked portrait of obsessive love with a vampiric murder ballad for a hook, while crunching riffs, foreboding synths and whip-cracking rhythms erupt around him. Its accompanying black-and-white video focuses on the band’s charismatic performance and introduces touring member Lawrie Pattison on guitar duties.
 
William Von Ghould says: “We made the video for 'Lovers Led Astray' with one of our favourite visual artists, Harry Steel. The video explores the themes of the song while experimenting with light and shadow. It is an unholy communion of light and dark which threads together the themes of the existing Sanguivore universe, while presenting something new and provocative at the same time.”

Having taken Sanguivore on the road last autumn, with a headline tour that included a sold-out O2 Shepherd’s Bush Empire, Creeper will embark upon their intimate 12 Days Of Night tour next Friday, when they take their nightmarish visions to Dreamland in Margate. The Gems are giving the celebrations surrounding International Women’s Day later this week an early kickstart by releasing an official music video for their track 'Queens', representing a story of struggle and unity. The trio made up of ex-Thundermother members Guernica Mancini, Emlee Johansson and Mona “Demona” Lindgren released their debut album, Phoenix, on 26th January 2024, which has already won high praise from fans and the press.

With their previous band, The Gems toured with Scorpions, played a VR concert during the Covid pandemic in Berlin's iconic Olympiastadion, as well as performed at many huge international festivals such as Wacken, Sweden Rock and Alcatraz. Now, as a Phoenix, they rise from the ashes and return with even more extraordinary songs. 

The Gems on 'Queens': “Queens is our tribute to all the strong individuals who have paved the way for us all. We want to remind people about the tough roads they had to walk on, for us to have the possibilities that we have today, as well as acknowledging that the work is far from done and that we aim to carry on in their footsteps.”

Captivating, chanting intro track 'Aurora' allows vocalist Guernica Mancini's distinctive, strong and bluesy vocals shine, and sets the scene before the catchy rock’n’roll anthem 'Queens' roars as a celebration of feminine power. Standing up for oneself, fighting back and rising above are some of the main lyrical themes of Phoenix, which 'Send Me To The Wolves' is an outstanding example of. The song’s storyline champions overcoming and not giving in to oppressors, before 'Domino' takes The Gems’ grooviness to the level of legendary classic rock bands of the 70s. With emotional tracks like 'Undiscovered Paths' and 'Fruits Of My Labor', The Gems bring significant depth and variety to the album, distancing themselves from their history. Stunning interlude 'Maria's Song', featuring violinist Maria Jern, fades into the touching ballad 'Ease Your Pain' - giving extra space to the exceptional guitar work of Mona 'Demona' Lindgren. Following track 'Running' shines as a surefire future hit with more impressive guitar work and Emlee Johansson’s hard hitting drums, before the beautifully stripped down acoustic version of 'Like A Phoenix' - backed with acoustic guitar by producer Johan Randén - wraps up The Gems’ debut album. Phoenix was mastered by Plec Johannsons (Soilwork, Hank von Hell, Firewind) and its artwork was created by ex-Thundermother member Giorgia Carteri (Soilwork, The Nightflight Orchestra).

The 'Burning Down' video was captured live and on location at GodCity by Jason Zucco during the recording of Cometh the Storm. Portions of the video footage feature direct takes of the album's recording sessions, including the fervent vocals of Matt Pike.

“'Burning Down' kicks off with a classic Pike riff,” says Jeff Matz. “I think this song harkens back to the early High on Fire sound, but infused with fresh, new elements. It has a killer groove that you can really sink into. The body of the song took shape in our PNW rehearsal space, and we came up with the bridge/solo section and finalized the arrangement while we were at GodCity. Kurt Ballou’s input as a producer was also hugely helpful. His keen ears and fresh perspective were invaluable in making this album.”

The GRAMMY Award-winning group, celebrating their 25th anniversary, recorded Cometh the Storm at GodCity Studio in Salem, Massachusetts with producer Kurt Ballou. The 11-song effort - the band's ninth studio album - marks the release of the first new High on Fire music since 2018's Electric Messiah and the first to feature drummer Coady Willis (Big Business, Murder City Devils), alongside bassist Jeff Matz, and guitarist/vocalist Matt Pike.
 
It has been more than five years since the band’s revered Electric Messiah earned High on Fire ‘Best Metal Performance’ at the 2018 GRAMMY Awards, placing the unit among the ranks of groups such as Black Sabbath, Motörhead, and Metallica as winners of the prestigious award. “Being nominated for a Grammy was pretty mind blowing, but winning one was truly surreal,” says bassist Jeff Matz. “A Grammy win was certainly not something we were aiming for, but it’s quite an honor to be recognized in that way, and we are grateful. In terms of how it’s affected us, it has definitely opened some new doors—we’ve gained some new fans and wider recognition, but it hasn’t changed how we approach our craft. We’ve always tried to create uncompromising music that feels good to us, and is in line with what we would want to listen to.”
 
In the half decade since the band’s Grammy nod, the world has seismically shifted and is a different place. The same can be said for High on Fire. The band’s musical archetype has been modded, morphed, and evolved; its blast radius widened. Bassist Jeff Matz joined Mutoid Man and traveled abroad to study and learn the techniques of Middle Eastern folk music and the plucked string instrument, the bağlama (or saz), Matt Pike formed a solo band, released an LP, and toured the U.S., and world-renowned percussionist, Coady Willis, he of Melvins, Big Business, and Murder City Devils united with Pike and Matz to breathe new life into the group a quarter century into their captivating career.
 
The lead track on High on Fire’s new album, Cometh the Storm, is the invigorating 'Burning Down', a vigorous barrage which exemplifies the prowess the unification of the three professional musicians owns. 

Universally recognized as one of the most potent acts in music today, High on Fire creates dynamic metal that merges primal fury and aggression, hesher bombast and hall of fame heaviness. Described as "a supersonic exercise in conquest by volume," High on Fire has rewritten the hard rock rule book since their formation in 1998, forging a style and sound that is both critically celebrated and unique. Finnish progressive rock masters Von Hertzen Brothers have recently released their magical live performance at Tavastia, Finland, recorded in 2023. Performing songs across their extensive catalogue, Live at Tavastia was released as a live album on 16th February, and the concert is available to watch as an on-demand stream.

Metallic hardcore quartet R.A.I.D have released their new single 'Aftermath', using their platform to shine a light on mental health, and more specifically the topic of suicide. The track is the first offering from their upcoming EP Dominion, due to release on 4th April.

Vocalist Rueban Issac comments: "'Aftermath' is a song that aims to help suicide survivors cope with the loss of a loved one, and details out a path to recovery. Given the social stigma associated with suicide, most survivors are unable to cope with their loss as they are forced into an individualistic mode of grieving, making the healing process even more difficult."

On the EP Dominion, Issac elaborates: "R.A.I.D has always been a band focused on lyrically sharing a positive/motivational/uplifting message. Our new offering Dominion is musically and lyrically charged to prevent a person from ending their life. We have seen some of our close and dear friends who have gone through the worst in their life and chose death as the final solution. This has fueled us to create an EP with an intent to heal and help people in finding the right support. Dominion takes the listener on a journey of hope and recovery. From dopamine responses, to addressing depressive states, to being a vehicle for messages of hope and resilience, we believe that the songs on the EP not only raise an awareness on suicide, but also, provide a bridge to prevention."

Hyderabad, India’s newest old school hardcore/crossover thrash metal powerhouse R.A.I.D (Rueban And the Imperium Division) were founded in June 2016 by vocalist Rueban Issac. 

R.A.I.D draw musical influence from hardcore legends such as Madball, Suicidal Tendencies, Agnostic Front and Hatebreed. German metalcore quartet Defocus have launched their electrifying new album, there is a place for me on earth, out everywhere via Arising Empire.

This song is the perfect representation of this EP’s overall sound and vibe, which is loaded with highly energetic thrash metal excellence. Burn Down Eden are ushering in a new era of German thrash with their unique, bombastic brand of metallic ferocity.

Burn Down Eden state: “Our new track, 'Reap the Apocalypse,' started as a demo with the marching triplet main riff leading into the catchy and epic chorus. That unit set the vibe and everything else was constructed around it. 'Reap the Apocalypse' tells the story about a cult and how the people within it are just blindly following a con-artist to only end up losing all their money, belief in society and will to live. It was soon pretty obvious that this is going to be a single, since it’s a straight banger that represents Burn Down Eden's best aspects. It’s catchy and melodic, yet filled with sinister shredding paired with infernal blast beats. 

"The riffs and melodies had a similar feel to our previous release Sermonize, just more coherent and taken to the next level. We ultimately decided to break this full-length album into two EPs. The first EP, Dismal, features the more darker and intense songs, as opposed to the next EP, Epiphany, which has more of the grandiose and upbeat tracks. In the end, you’re going to have one mighty, full-length album, Dismal Epiphany.
