Modern power metal icons Unleash The Archers unveil new single 'Blood Empress'

Canada’s most exciting metal band, power metal powerhouse Unleash The Archers, recently announced the upcoming release of their game-changing sixth studio album, Phantoma, out 10th May (Napalm Records).

Following their highly-acclaimed latest singles 'Green & Glass', 'Ghosts In The Mist' and 'Seeking Vengeance', today the band ushers in release week with epic album closer anthem 'Blood Empress'. The track tells a bittersweet tale with spine-tingling, grooving choruses before closing with a grandiose blastbeat attack amid a sea of voices.

On the new concept album, listeners join protagonist Phantoma, a Phase 4 / Network Tier 0 unit -model A, on an inspiring yet harrowing journey as she discovers the brutal truths behind the manufactured sheen of social media posturing on a dystopian, near-future planet Earth. With the band’s one-of-a-kind blend of power metal, traditional heavy metal, modern prog and pop sensibilities, Phantoma spins a web of sharp musicality, high sci-fi concept and important social commentary.

Vocalist Brittney Slayes on 'Blood Empress': "This was the last song that we wrote for the album and we wrote it together in our Airbnb while we were recording. We always like to save one song to write together in the studio to give a kind of snapshot of the headspace we were in while recording, and this one was a ton of fun. We wanted to do a bit more of a radio rock track and have it be something simple that would be a blast to play live and potentially end the set with. The album story ends with Phantoma having destroyed both The Collective and the Human Council that once stood against her, but now she had all of robotkind and humankind looking to her for where to go next. We wanted the song to feel dark but also triumphant, and to hopefully be catchy enough to make the listener want to start the album all over again. The video was filmed once again by RuneGate Studio and they did an awesome job with finding a set that could parry between both the synthetic and the human sides of the story. We all love this track in UTA and hope that you all can bang your heads to it too!"

Phantoma follows the band's 2020 breakout album, Abyss, which won the JUNO Award for
Metal/Hard Music Album of the Year after debuting at #1 on the US Current Hard Music and Top New Artist charts, and was dubbed by Bandcamp as “a mandatory listen” upon release.

Intertwining reality with imagination, Unleash The Archers were inspired to utilise elements of AI during the creation of Phantoma, in keeping with its future-facing theme. Frontwoman and lyricist Brittney Slayes conjured the album's concept in 2021; before the swarm of pressing commentary surrounding AI began to reach an all-time high. With the band’s one-of-a-kind blend of power metal, traditional heavy metal, modern prog and pop sensibilities, Unleash The Archers spin a web of sharp musicality, high sci-fi concept and important social commentary about discovering the brutal truths behind the manufactured sheen of social media posturing.

The band weaved electronic and synthwave elements throughout the album’s 10 colossal anthems, which - in line with its theme - prove much darker and heavier in comparison to the bright positivity of Abyss. Album opener 'Human Era' sets the tone with imagery of a bleak, windswept futurescape that crescendoes headlong into the breakneck pace of power metal bastion 'Ph4/NT0mA' - a masterwork of duelling guitar solos and vocal acrobatics. Trad-metal influenced 'Buried In Code' lights the way with pummelling rhythms before the album’s path turns dark on heavy metal hardened 'The Collective', with Brittney Slayes’ warm tones inviting the listener to ‘join or stand aside’! Hair-raising first single 'Green & Glass' unveils the truth before the upbeat 80s-flavoured 'Gods In Decay' and the extraordinary balladic anthem 'Give It Up Or Give It All' showcase the varied songwriting prowess of Unleash The Archers’ modern era. A trifecta of concept closers begins with the moody 'Ghosts In The Mist', leading into the soaring yet menacing 'Seeking Vengeance' before closing with the bittersweet tale of 'Blood Empress'.

Mixed and mastered by Jacob Hansen, and with lead guitarist Andrew Kingsley at the helm as both principal songwriter and producer, Phantoma is an exciting advancement in Unleash The Archers’ songwriting and storytelling mastery, and a giant leap forward in their towering musical trajectory.

Norwegian prog masters Rendezvous Point stream new single 'Utopia'

Norwegian progressive metal masters Rendezvous Point release new single 'Utopia, taken from their highly anticipated third full-length Dream Chaser, due 21st June 2024 via Long Branch Records.

Watch the video to 'Utopia' here: https://youtu.be/mFk-ILUZlzA

Singer Geirmund Hansen comments on the new single 'Utopia': "As a child you often search for ideals and someone to look up to. Very often, you can find those ideals in close family relations, and they become your guide. Later in life there’s a breaking point where you must find your own path and that sometimes can lead to a lacking feeling of belonging and you end up in the middle of two different spheres, Dystopia."

Following the footsteps from their critically acclaimed sophomore album Universal Chaos, the five-piece around Leprous drummer Baard Kolstad, keyboardist Nicolay Tangen Svennæs, singer Geirmund Hansen, guitarist Petter Hallaråker and bass player Gunn-Hilde Erstad continue to push boundaries with more concise songwriting and a wider focus on groove, riffs, melodies and hooks.

Dream Chaser delves deep into the realm of artistic exploration, focusing on the relentless pursuit of perfection. “Artists often strive a whole lifetime searching for something abstract, a feeling of perfection in what you do or create. Since it’s an abstract and subjective thing, the artists‘ search for perfection often results in a lifetime of always wanting more, better, bigger and deeper. This leads to chasing something unclear and un-touchable, like a dream. It seems real and reachable, but never is,“ comment the band.

With themes ranging from societal disillusionment to personal growth, Dream Chaser  offers a compelling glimpse into the human experience. Rendezvous Point invite listeners to join them on their journey exploring the complexities of modern existence and the depths of emotional turmoil.

Rising Insane unveil new single 'Burn'

Rising Insane have unveiled their new single 'Burn', taken from their fourth studio album Wildfires, out 23rd August via Long Branch Records.

Watch the video here: https://youtu.be/cFkwytMuoUU

Stream the single and pre-order Wildfires here: https://risinginsane.lnk.to/wildfires

"'Burn' was the last song we wrote for Wildfires", comments singer Aaron Steineker. "We were somehow still missing a song with that certain something that you could start a show with. I can still remember the situation: I was getting dressed when the idea for 'Burn' popped into my head out of nowhere. I had to sprint upstairs to my cell phone before the idea got lost again and then made a three-minute video explaining the entire song to myself so that none of it would be forgotten. Within 2 hours, Sven (guitar) and I finished the instrumental, and after another day I recorded the vocals. It was by far the most fluid songwriting process we've ever had and we can't wait to open our shows with that song."

'Burn' follows previous singles 'Malicious' and 'Reign', taken from Wildfires. The album takes an in-depth look at the consequences of our collective abstinence from empathy and challenges listeners to ignite their inner flame for change. It is an urgent call to break out of the darkness.

While Rising Insane remain true to their post-hardcore and metalcore roots on Wildfires, the band have evolved both collectively and individually, which is clearly reflected in the new and fresh sound.

Rising Insane singer Aaron Steineker comments on Wildfires"Over the last two years, I have felt that there is a huge source of strife lurking around every corner. All we have to do is pick up our cell phone and we're immediately thrown into a hate-filled sea of conflict, there's so much hate everywhere. You get the feeling that the world around us is on fire when you add war, global warming, inflation and depression to the mix. That's how this album got the title Wildfires. Each song on the album is about a specific trouble spot, themes and stories that have weighed on me while writing. Our goal is to create awareness through our music of how much we burden ourselves and each other instead of focusing on things that connect us and create positivity."

EVERGREY reveal new single 'Say'

EVERGREY, Gothenburg's finest export of darkness, unveil their eagerly awaited second single, 'Say', together with an official music video.

Taken from forthcoming album Theories of Emptiness (7th June, Napalm Records), you can watch the video for 'Say' here: https://youtu.be/ytsJUzztleM

Pre-order the album here: https://lnk.to/EG-TheoriesOfEmptiness/napalmrecords

The heartfelt track seamlessly blends raw heaviness with enchanting keyboards and unexpected instrumental parts, offering an unparalleled melodic progressive metal experience, along with the outstanding vocal offering of band mastermind Tom S. Englund.

EVERGREY on 'Say': "’Say’ is one of those songs that immediately when we wrote the chorus we knew that it would be an awesome single. It will simply kill live and is a very worthy follow-up to the success of ‘Falling From the Sun’. Regarding the end of the video there will of course be questions, a lot of questions, we have the answers."

Since the announcement of their new release, Theories of Emptiness has been hailed by critics all over the world, being called “a flawless piece of progressive metal" by Powerplay Magazine (UK), “an early candidate for the honorary title of ‘hard rock album of the year’, as well as “perhaps their best album ever” by Sweden Rock Magazine, and ranking on top of the soundcheck of German Rock Hard magazine. With this upcoming musical genius, EVERGREY impressively prove themselves once more as a force to be reckoned with and show a seemingly endless flow of top-notch creativity that sees no bounds.

Theories of Emptiness was produced by Tom S. Englund and Jonas Ekdahl, and was mixed by Adam "Nolly" Getgood (ex-Periphery), who worked closely with the band from the start - bringing out the vividness of the album’s overall sonic profile. Rounding out the album’s production, mastering was helmed by Thomas “Plec” Johansson (Soilwork, The Night Flight Orchestra, Onslaught, The Gems, Eleine and many more).

Theories of Emptiness follows its chart-topping and critically acclaimed predecessor, 2022’s A Heartless Portrait (The Orphean Testament), which entered charts worldwide at #3 in Sweden (Metal), ranked #5 on the Top New Artist Albums charts in the United States, entered #7 in Finland and #12 in Germany.

“For us, progression is paramount”, states Tom S. Englund when discussing the eleven track opus, Theories of Emptiness. “We're dedicated to ensuring that our music remains innovative and avoids stagnation. With each album, we strive to introduce something new — a unique flavor, a different key or chord, fresh voices in our writing, or innovative production techniques.” In fact, no stone has been left unturned. Tracks are created to balance each-other mutually: from the aggressive tones of 'Misfortune' contrasting the light-hearted opening of 'To Become Someone Else', to the ballad 'Ghost of My Hero' leading into the furious riffs of 'We Are the North'. Album opener 'Falling From the Sun' and 'Say' interweave heaviness with mesmerising keyboards and unpredictable instrumental parts, as also heard on 'The Night Within'. On 'Cold Dreams', Englund’s distinctive voice is accompanied by Jonas Renkse of fellow Swedish metal icons Katatonia, splicing the song with a stellar performance that underlines another intense facet of the album. In addition, Englund’s daughter Salina provides lush backing vocals that enhance the song’s dynamics even more. Ending on a quiet note, Theories of Emptiness depicts exactly what emptiness is about, first with the immersive 'Our Way Through Silence', and then with 'A Theory of Emptiness' which, with timid piano, makes us rationalise our innermost feelings. Navigating realms of darkness and light, Theories of Emptiness takes listeners on a carefully balanced roller coaster ride - showcasing EVERGREY's ever-evolving sound in 2024 and beyond.

Tom Englund adds: “Our new album is soon to be yours! We can’t wait for that to happen, there are so many new and refreshing elements on it as well as respect paid to every part of our past. We have just refined what we always have done and tried to make it as contemporary as we possibly could to please ourselves and our sonic expectations. With the presence of Adam ”Nolly” Getgood, we felt fired up, hungry and eager to do our utmost to ensure that we would write the best songs we possibly could - I really feel we have achieved that. Sound quality wise we feel that it is on par with the best the world has to offer today. It is a brave statement that I will stand behind for the rest of my life. Taking EVERGREY into a new cycle feels just as when I did it the first time. We are more motivated than ever, and with a lot of touring to be announced very soon, we cannot wait to come and play this new music for you.

"Finally, we need to mention that we couldn't be prouder to announce our guest vocalist for this album. Jonas Renkse has graced KATATONIA’s music with his unique atmosphere for decades. Now we in the band and the fans of EVERGREY get to experience the same and we couldn't be more excited! You might even get to hear Jonas growl for maybe the first time in many years…
Much love, Tom”

Lead vocalist Brian Butcher comments:

“'Roommates' and 'Overtime' are two sides of the same coin. I’m not super into astrology, but I do admit that I identify pretty heavily with the descriptions of my sign of Gemini, in that I flip flop between two sides of myself. These songs are a conversation between those two sides. 'Roommates' is from the perspective of a driven, organized and motivated side of me, and 'Overtime' is the respective creative and passionate side. Both have their weaknesses and their strengths, and they can’t exist without the other, but they definitely get into shouting matches sometimes. Safe to say these songs mean a lot to me.”

The Home Team will return to the UK in December for a sold-out headline tour.

Dates are as follows:

96 Bitter Beings re-record CKY fan favourites for Return to Hellview

Influential Los Angeles rock band 96 Bitter Beings have announced their 'Return To Hellview' with a new record featuring a collection of fan-favourite, re-recorded CKY tracks spanning founding guitarist, vocalist and primary songwriter Deron Miller’s time with the band.

Set for release digitally on 14th June from Nuclear Blast, Return To Hellview gives nod in the title to the hostile town of Hellview Miller first sang about on CKY’s debut track ‘96 Bitter Beings,’ which the band takes their name from.

Pre-save Return To Hellview: https://bfan.link/return-to-hellview

On the upcoming release Miller says:

"Revisiting these songs was a blast. I hadn’t heard the original versions in so long but I was able to get a lot of the re-recordings done just from memory. When the recording process got down to covering specific details of all the tracks, that’s when I went back and listened to the original versions.

"I love all the songs but there’s always been issues that bothered me about the originals. A lot of my problems with them were arbitrary and not that important…things that I just wanted to fix that most listeners wouldn’t even notice. But there were some things I wanted to add to these songs and some things I wanted to take out. The goal was to challenge myself to redo these classic tracks in a way that they could be heard as remixes instead of re-recordings. I think we succeeded.

"I hope a lot of fans will hear this album as remixes of the originals. Not many bands have access to the original masters that are owned by record companies and therefore don’t have the option to remix anything. We’re excited to see the response."

Today, 96 Bitter Beings has revealed the first re-recorded single, ‘Flesh Into Gear,’ that’s accompanied by the visualizer here: https://youtu.be/z2XODM_DL3k

Miller adds about re-recording the beloved single:

‘Flesh Into Gear’ was a sizeable hit for me and because of that I tended to always put it under a microscope. I was never fully happy with the original’s mix. I’m finally 100% happy with it. This whole process is the result of a nutty perfectionist trying to chase that feeling of total satisfaction. I achieved it. Basically, I’m saying I won’t be doing this again 20 years from now.”

Stream ‘Flesh Into Gear’: https://bfan.link/flesh-into-gear

Deron Miller gives his life to the riff. Unrestrained by industry expectations and genre limitations, the boundlessly prolific guitarist and voice behind multiple beloved projects is best known as the founder, frontman, and songwriter in CKY. His authentic and effortlessly hooky heavy rock obsession returns with 96 Bitter Beings. Reinvigorated and ready to rumble all over again, Miller roars back with the same reverence for riffage that made underground hits out of CKY anthems like 'Flesh Into Gear', 'Escape from Hellview', and 'Disengage the Simulator' from 1998 till 2011.

The familiar warmth, feel, groove, and unapologetic honesty which drove the song '96 Quite Bitter Beings' to 54 million streams (on Spotify alone) permeates the pair of albums unleashed by 96BB

A successful crowdfunding campaign saw Miller, guitarist Kenneth Hunter, bassist Shaun Luera and Shaun’s brother, drummer Tim, conjure up 2018’s Camp Pain in limited release. North American touring followed, wrapping up shortly before the COVID-19 shutdowns.

“After CKY and a short break, I decided to continue, without changing the sound,” Miller explains. “Because that’s what I do. It’s what I love to do and what people say I do well. All of the guys who got in the band with me are great musicians. And each of them is hungry. They have priorities and ambitions about being in a rock band, no matter the grim state of pop music out there. If we can bring rock and metal back to the mainstream, in some way, that’s the dream.”

In 2022, 96 Bitter Beings joined Nuclear Blast Records and shortly after released their critically revered album, Synergy Restored, which features the standout tracks ‘Vaudeville’s Revenge,’ ‘Wish Me Dead,’ ‘Fire Skyline’ and ‘Bloodrock Mania.’

Alt-rock outfit The Fever Kings release video for new single 'Nowhere To Hide'

UK alt-rock quartet The Fever Kings have released a video for their new single 'Nowhere To Hide'. The track is taken from the band's self-titled debut EP, due for release on 21st June.

Check out the video for 'Nowhere To Hide' here: https://youtu.be/0-fHzmq2CHE

Stream 'Nowhere To Hide' here: https://distrokid.com/hyperfollow/thefeverkings/nowhere-to-hide

The Fever Kings comment:

"I think to some extent, many of us carry thoughts we find difficult to silence and escape from. As much as we would love to avoid the mental strain, sometimes there is literally 'Nowhere To Hide', and we must face what is holding us back head on, to a point where reality begins to distort. So we wanted this song to display the discomfort of facing the darkness, as well as the release of letting it all go.

"The song, and video, are both powerful representations of the issues we all face. We thought having the demons coming up to
Jack, and at the end disappearing when the mask is pulled off, was a good way of showing what someone might have going on in their mind that nobody else can see. We hope people can relate and take away that we all have demons invisible to everyone else - don't let them define who you are and believe in yourself."

Hailing from the North East of England, alternative rock four-piece The Fever Kings were born out of the brutal COVID lockdowns, and the burning desire that Jack, Chris, Alex and Thomas felt to get back to music after long months of social hibernation. Since January 2022, the band have been writing music to serve the soul, carrying influences from Foo Fighters, Biffy Clyro, Jimmy Eat World and Lifehouse through their tasteful sense of melody, and their incredibly dynamic energy.

Balancing soft rock with heavy melodies, The Fever Kings' sound leans towards nostalgic 00's rock. Since forming the four-piece have released three singles, one of which spent two weeks at No.1 in the Independent Music Charts in the Netherlands.

Last year, The Fever Kings completed their first UK tour across three cities, concluding with a hometown headline show in Newcastle. The band have also performed at Heveningham Hall in Suffolk, supporting Mel C of the Spice Girls

This year you can see The Fever Kings open the main stage of Northants Rocks, Northamptonshire, on 26th July 2024.

Our Hollow, Our Home pay tribute to vocalist Gaz King's late sister with powerful new single

Southampton metalcore quintet Our Hollow, Our Home have unveiled a deeply personal new single / video 'Veil Walker',  their second since their return with a brand new line-up.

Watch the video here: https://youtu.be/BchUnbaKTZM

Stream here: https://arisingempire.com/veilwalker

Vocalist Gaz King comments: "Lyrically, 'Veil Walker' is an opportunity to say goodbye to my sister Yasmin, who died of cancer back in 2020. This was just a few days before the pandemic started, and the absolute unthinkable happened. Mandatory isolation nationwide meant only those in the closest circle of loved ones could attend funerals, and as a further injustice, loved ones couldn’t comfort each other like they’re meant to during such emotional times. I was living in Glasgow at the time, which meant I wasn’t able to travel to attend the funeral; I didn’t get to carry her casket alongside my family. I didn’t get to really say goodbye. However, I have taken great solace knowing I was able to be with her in her most final moments.

"
Our Hollow, Our Home have never been a band that shy away from talking about grief, and just like those other songs before 'Veil Walker',  we dedicated it to everyone who has had to watch their loved one suffer while the world stood still."

'Veil Walker' follows previous single 'Downpour', which was released along with the new line-up announcement in 2023. Now fronted by phenomenal vocalist Gaz King (ex From Sorrow To Serenity, Nexilva), his wide dynamic range, pitched screams and powerful cleans bring many exciting fresh elements to Our Hollow Our Home's trademark sound.

The level of relatability, coupled with their relentless touring with the likes of A Day To RememberAsking Alexandria and Blessthefall and high profile slots at festivals like GraspopNova RockSummerblast and Jera On Air, has seen the band command an ever growing army of highly dedicated followers; they have over 115,000 monthlies and 50M streams on Spotify, have been viewed over 9 million times on Youtube and have over 29,000 Instagram followers and 107,000 on Facebook and 2017’s debut album Hartsick reached the top spot of the Itunes chart for rock and metal in the UK, as well as placing in the top ten in the USA, Canada, Australia, Mexico, Italy and Germany.

They were also boosted by their hugely popular cover of Ed Sheeran’s ‘Shape of You’ in 2017, which was picked up by BBC Radio One’s Greg James and subsequently topped the iTunes UK rock and metal chart, and racked up over 300,000 plays on YouTube on its first week of release.

For a band who have handled their own operations internally without the help of major label or industry backing till today, that is a mightily impressive number, and testament to the devotion Our Hollow, Our Home have to their craft. But it’s more than just the numbers that are impressive, it’s the way in which those people have connected with the band. Be it their lyrical content, their staunchly DIY approach, their high energy live shows or their down to earth attitude, Our Hollow, Our Home have connected with their audience in a way that cannot be forced or faked.
