Today, US thrash metal masters EXODUS release their live album British Disaster: The Battle of '89 (Live At The Astoria).

35 years of being locked away in the band's vault, the album now sees the light of day. The energy and heaviness that EXODUS radiate on these live recordings give every metal fan a reason to add it to their personal collection. A must for every metalhead!

Recorded on the 8th of March in 1989 at The Astoria in London, fans witnessed a night that went down in history and became legendary among EXODUS and thrash metal fans worldwide. The band had just released their third studio album Fabulous Disaster and started a five month run to promote the album which brought the Americans to Europe for a month of live shows. During this European run EXODUS decided to record the show in London, but never released it. This recording remained unheard of in the EXODUS vaults - until now. 

Be prepared for a much more aggressive and rawer sound than on the studio albums. British Disaster: The Battle of '89 (Live At The Astoria) is the ultimate live album presenting the sheer energy of what made EXODUS famous and notorious during the 80s, and what made them a legendary thrash metal band. A best of setlist compiled from the band's first three classic albums. The live album, mixed and mastered by Zeuss and the artwork done by Mark DeVito, will be available as CD, 2LP vinyl and digital.

Marjana Semkina has unveiled a video for for the positively dark single 'Swan Song', the third taken from her stunning new solo LP, Sirin, released today.

Marjana comments on the single: "Swan Song is a meditation on death, a memento mori if you will. It’s all about remembering that everything is going to end one day, good things and bad, and accepting it with a light heart and a clear head. Making peace with leaving things behind and moving on to wherever we go next, even if it’s nothingness."

One of the most highly anticipated progressive releases of the year, Sirin smashed its Kickstarter target within 24 hours of launch, achieving over 200% before release.

Sirin is a journey of dark stories and fairy tales, told with Marjana’s uniquely captivating voice, on a foundation of detailed musical arrangements. However there is a prevailing darkness and grief, inspired by the Russian invasion of Ukraine, with the first single about by the protests.

On the album Sirin, she continues: "Sirin is a mythical creature from ancient Slavic mythology, half-bird half-woman, she's a harbinger of bad luck and death, and it's believed that if you meet Sirin a big catastrophe will happen - except in case with the events surrounding this album it's already happened. Sirin cries and mourns for humankind, and nothing can be more appropriate in this day and age. Sirin is one of very few creatures that can travel between worlds - a world of gods of light, a world of dark deities (in some versions an alternative to the underworld) and a world of mortals. This felt appropriate because the album is quite diverse in sound and some might think parts of it sound happy, but the subject matter is almost always quite morbid, which creates a contrast that I enjoy.

"I was never very political and I always tried to keep my art within the realms of lore, literature and imagination. But when events like the ongoing Russian invasion of Ukraine happen, it is impossible - and I'd even say, unforgivable - to stay silent and do nothing. Thankfully being based in the UK I feel rather safe speaking out against the current regime and I do have a platform that I can use to try and show the world that Russians disagree with the actions of the Russian government, and there are so many of us that only wish for this to be over. I'm just trying to show it in the most artistic way I can muster."

Now permanently based in the UK, Marjana has been an active campaigner against the Russian occupation in Ukraine and has raised thousands of pounds via her activities to support the victims of war. She will continue her work, including selling a number of a limited run of handwritten lyrics from Sirin, with the money going to Ukrainian charities. Acts punishable by 15 years imprisonment should she return home.
 
Marjana is joined by an array of world class musicians (detailed below), which includes two very special guest vocal performances from Jim Grey (Caligula’s Horse) and Mick Moss (Antimatter).

Known for her work as the vocalist of prog duo Iamthemorning, self-exiled Russian Marjana has forged a successful solo career with two critically acclaimed solo releases: her 2020 debut solo album Sleepwalking, and 2021 follow-up EP Disillusioned.
 
Marjana has previously collaborated with many incredible artists, including The Flower Kings, Jordan Rudess, Blackbriar, as well as Anna Murphy with their Maer project. Combined with her work in Iamthemorning, her experiences have enabled her to become one of the most unique and exciting solo artists in the progressive world today.

"'Illusion' is about the struggle of trying to convince yourself that you are okay, pretending to be happy walking a pathway that you don't truly connect with, and trying desperately to hold on. Hailing from the North East of England, alternative rock four-piece The Fever Kings were born out of the brutal COVID lockdowns, and the burning desire that Jack, Chris, Alex and Thomas felt to get back to music after long months of social hibernation. Since January 2022, the band have been writing music to serve the soul, carrying influences from Foo Fighters, Biffy Clyro, Jimmy Eat World and Lifehouse through their tasteful sense of melody, and their incredibly dynamic energy.

Balancing soft rock with heavy melodies, The Fever Kings' sound leans towards nostalgic 00's rock. Since forming the four-piece have released three singles, one of which spent two weeks at No.1 in the Independent Music Charts in the Netherlands. 

Last year, The Fever Kings completed their first UK tour across three cities, concluding with a hometown headline show in Newcastle. The band have also performed at Heveningham Hall in Suffolk, supporting Mel C of the Spice Girls.

New UK heavy group Malice make their mark today with the release of their gargantuan new single 'Flayed Lord', ft. Jessie Powell from Dream State.

Vocalist Josh Davies comments: "Writing 'Flayed Lord' was in a time I was struggling to sleep at night and also finding it hard to cope with certain things that were happening in my life. The Flayed Lord himself is a metaphor for all the bad. The first person character is in denial of this, until the point of self-realisation that he is what he sees and no matter where he goes he will always be followed by the Flayed Lord who represents his trauma. 'Flayed Lord' is only Malice's third single, following their riproaring debut 'Underneath' and second single 'Abhor'.

Since the release of 'Underneath', Malice's mission statement has been to show no remorse, to crush the observer with the intensity of the audio and visuals on display. 'Abhor' follows suit, leaving no time to dwell or contemplate, with its erratic and pulverising riffs, stampeding drums and an onslaught of versatile vocals that dominate anyone who wishes to observe. 
 
To complete the trio, 'Flayed Lord' has now been unveiled, offered as an end point to the narrative of the previous two singles. With a star feature from Dream State's Jessie Powell, Malice's first three songs are already demanding the attention of UK press and fans alike.

Forever We Burn features 10 new tracks, all produced by Gregor Mackintosh (Paradise Lost), who also adds some signature guitar lines; as a body of work, it both delves into the darker recesses of the human condition and heralds the arrival of a new name and a familiar, formidable voice…

The name (an acknowledgement of mankind as parasite-in-chief) is High Parasite; the voice, that of Aaron Stainthorpe – longstanding frontman with doom metal maestros, My Dying Bride.

As a revered and founding pillar of My Dying Bride, with a legacy spanning over three decades, the spotlight will doubtless focus on Aaron’s distinctive profile, initially at least; pull back the red velvet curtains, however, and another force emerges in the form of bassist / vocalist / songwriter Tombs – a key player in the creation of High Parasite as a livin’, breathin’ entity.

Every song bears the indelible stamp of Stainthorpe and Tombs, their collaboration forming the dark, pulsating core of this five-piece ensemble, fleshed out by Sam Hill (rhythm guitar), Jonny Hunter (lead guitar) and Dan Brown (drums).

World-renowned American death metal icons NILE return in 2024 with their highly-anticipated 10th onslaught, The Underworld Awaits Us All, out 23rd August via Napalm Records. Boasting airtight technicality and unrelenting brutality, the new album pushes each member of NILE – founding mastermind/guitarist Karl Sanders, longtime drum master George Kollias, vocalist/guitarists Brian Kingsland and Zach Jeter, and bassist Dan Vadim Von – to their furthest extremes both in artistry and performance.
 
Once again produced and recorded at Sanders’ own Serpent Headed Studios in Greenville, South Carolina, the band returned to Vile Nilotic Rites engineer Mark Lewis (Cannibal Corpse, Dying Fetus, Whitechapel) for mixing and mastering.
 
In celebration of today's announcement, NILE have dropped the album's first new single, 'Chapter for Not Being Hung Upside Down on a Stake in the Underworld and Made to Eat Feces by the Four Apes', alongside a new official music video. Topped by killer screams and gutturals, the track is a winding hacksaw of brutal tech-death injections citing the Egyptian Book of the Dead.

Facing the planet’s inevitable end with their diehard fans at their side, NILE waste absolutely no time with histrionics on The Underworld Awaits Us All, distilling their trademark Egyptology driven tempest down to its most streamlined essence. Charging into battle as its namesake depicts, 'Stelae of Vultures' makes an immediate impact with dissonant guitar chords and supernatural drumming, teasing the auditory evisceration to come. Topped by impressive screams and gutturals, the track leads into 'Chapter for Not Being Hung Upside Down on a Stake in the Underworld and Made to Eat Feces by the Four Apes', citing the Egyptian Book of the Dead’s 181st chapter. The album’s most succinct track, 'To Strike with Secret Fang', blends low-end punishment with blackened death metal inspiration, before album standouts such as 'Naqada II Enter the Golden Age' and 'Overlords of the Black Earth'  breathe new life with thrash and fusion experimentation, as well as real human choirs – adding a raw element to the NILE fold. Each track soars as a technical tour-de-force – featuring career-defining extreme drumming from Kollias, as well as razor-sharp soloing from all three active guitarists and palpable bass exploration. A perfect example of this equation is pinnacle burner 'Under the Curse of the One God', combining sinister atmospherics with breakneck pacing and whirlwind, vicious riff acrobatics.
 
Throughout the remainder of its 11 pummelling tracks and intricate interludes, NILE masters full-tilt speed and ferocious musicality. 30 years into their heavy reign, The Underworld Awaits Us All proves that NILE is marching onward and undoubtedly upward, bleeding metal for their fandom for as long as the sands of time will allow.

Celebrated as one of the hottest rising stars of 80s-styled hard rock, NESTOR have unleashed a lyric video for their latest anthem 'Teenage Rebel'. This high-energy track captures the rebellious spirit of youth and is a great taste of what's to come from their upcoming album, Teenage Rebel, to be released this Friday, 31st May, 2024, via Napalm Records.

NESTOR comment on their newest single: “The song and the video ‘Teenage Rebel’ is a tribute to the late 80s and to our hometown of Falköping where we grew up. The is song about expressions like ‘Radical’ and ‘Totally Tubular’ and E.T. trying to call home but also about the importance of living for today.”

Having formed in 1989 only to fall into hibernation over three long decades, NESTOR emerged stronger than ever in 2021 with their debut album, Kids in a Ghost Town, marking the band's triumphant return to the spotlight and captivating fans with their timeless sound and unmatched energy.

The new album, Teenage Rebel, sets off with a captivating intro-monologue spoken by Danish voice actress Freya Miller, creating a retro, rebellious atmosphere that sets the mood for the album and prepares the stage for the opening track 'We Come Alive' - a true blast of an opener. Rhythmic guitars create an exciting backdrop for the gripping vocals of frontman Tobias Gustavsson, leading towards an incredible guitar solo by guitar hero Jonny Wemmenstedt. The album's title track, 'Teenage Rebel', convinces with tight riffing and an anthem-like chorus honoring the tradition of 80s hard rock. '21' is a wild ride celebrating the ease of youth. NESTOR also prove their ability to shift from big stadium anthems to their emotional side on tracks like 'Caroline', convincing with catchy melody and passionate vocals, while Wemmenstedt demonstrates his insane skills once again as he tops the song with another stunning solo. Touching ballads like 'Last To Know', “Daughter” and 'The One That Got Away' present an even more vulnerable facet, reaching straight for the listener’s heart with yearning lyrics, while tracks like 'Addicted To Your Love' and 'Unchain My Heart' celebrate love, youth and the joy of being naïve.

Finnish metalcore/progressive metal hybrid Split Iris have released new single 'Oath', taken from the band's new album, Bloodred Dusk, out 28th June via Seek and Strike. 'Oath' is a dynamic and hard-hitting song that sets the tone for the entire album. This new offering is also a conceptual album that explores a wide range of sonic emotions.

Split Iris states: “Our new single, ‘Oath,’ is about finding oneself amid complete desperation with seemingly no way out. It is a reflection about everything that went wrong with humanity and how all the things one thought as stable truths collapsed in the view of the storyteller. However, even from the ashes of humanity there is a spark of hope to be found and the storyteller remembers the oath they made in the beginning of their story to never give up. Therefore, the storyteller sets out to find a way out of despair and carry the promise of restoring humanity, even if it would mean the end for them. 
 
"The song has a very important meaning for us, as it carries a message about finding a solution no matter what we’re faced with. This powerful message is reflected musically in the song, and in the album’s story arc it’s a turning point of sorts, which is why the song is an obvious and natural choice to be a lead single as well.
 
"We're super excited of how the the music video turned out. It complements the song by visually achieving its deep message and its energy with the bands intense and mesmerizing movements and the energetic camera work. The colors and the lighting reflect the mixed feelings of despair and hope, which are the core themes of the song. We and the filming crew feel we really put our souls into the performance and the making of the video, which shows. The video and the song go hand in hand, merging into a complete experience and further deepening the story, taking it to a whole new level. 

"Our new album, Bloodred Dusk, is a story of humanity and its looming end. The album reflects on different aspects of humanity’s limits and about its resilience. A common theme throughout the album is hubris as a trait of humanity, and how it blinds us from seeing our limits and our lack of control. Even in the face of total obliteration and in the moments of the deepest despair there is still trust that everything can be fixed. The story arc moves from a sense of stability to losing all hope and giving up, and finally to finding hope even amid complete ruin with seemingly no possible future for humanity. From the deepest moment of despair there is still a spark of hope to be found for a brighter future. But will it be enough? Is it already too late? What will it take to fix humanity’s course? That is the theme and the core thought underlying the story."

Split Iris are a Finnish progressive metalcore band combining elements of djent and many other styles of modern metal, resulting in a freshly unique mixture as their distinctive sound. The ambiences and massive soundscapes in the arrangements bring depth to the dark and driving down-tuned riffs, through which the mesmerising and catchy vocal melodies soar pristinely. 

The quintet are based in Rauma, Finland and were formed in 2020. They are releasing their debut album in 2024 and will perform new songs live from the upcoming album. Relevant themes in the band’s music include self-acceptance and psychic resources. The down-tuned riffs and huge soundscapes inspire the listener to experience strong emotions, through which they can find spiritual strength in themselves and their surroundings.
