Hotly-tipped French alt.metal band SUNBORN, recently signed to Solid State, are thrilled to unveil the video for gnarly, groove-driven new single 'Silent Attraction'.

Watch the video here: https://youtu.be/6JaAFgLYspA

The video will flip you upside down - literally - with a moody mid-section before erupting in a full-blown rager.

"This song is a raw attempt at honesty," vocalist Lino Chesnel declares. "We wrote it all together in one night and it felt like a natural way to express the anger we felt at the time. Lyrically, I wanted to say all the things that came through my mind without trying to find a whole universe to create; it's just simple and pure expression of thought. This song was a lot of fun to write, and also our heaviest song to date."

The new song follows the PhaseOne (Fox Lake, Make Them Suffer, ERRA) remix of their single "Infinity Pool." Listen here. Watch the video for the original here.

Sunborn will be touring North America with TesseracT this coming winter, before heading to the UK supporting As Everything Unfolds.

Sunborn hail from Montpellier, in the south of France. This group of adventurous musicians aims to blend unconventional influences by bridging the gap between digital and analog art while embracing modern sounds. Thus, Sunborn shine a new light on what is sonically possible.

At the heart of Sunborn's songwriting is melody. Whether drawing from the crushing intensity of Knocked Loose or the infectious global rhythms of Bad Bunny, the band approaches music without boundaries, blending influences from every corner of the musical spectrum into something uniquely their own. Their vision is simple yet ambitious: To bridge the gap between violence and harmony in the most innovative way possible.

Over the past year, Sunborn have continued to build momentum through powerful live performances, with standout moments including their successful headline tour in January and a nationwide support run across France alongside Resolve.

The road ahead marks a new chapter for the band, as it is preparing to unveil the most expansive and ambitious version of their sound to date — pushing its artistic vision further than ever before while remaining true to the emotional core that defines their music.

For Sunborn, the past is a source of inspiration, but the future is where their story truly begins.

Winterfylleth announce 20th anniversary edition of Rising of the Winter Full Moon

“Emerging from a disparate British scene where insularity or eccentricity were often the hallmarks, Winterfylleth felt like a galvanising force. Plugged into the feral motherlode of black metal’s second wave, they became ever more steeped in a romanticism that fully belonged to Northwest England’s landscapes, and the resonances still simmering after a millennium of bloody history. Winterfylleth were something new, an intrinsically British–sounding band, but also an exemplary lightning rod for black metal as an essence.” - Jonathan Selzer, Metal Hammer

“Winterfylleth: The name itself is a perfect embodiment of black metal celebrating the mysticism around the winter moon and drawing from historical themes, Albion being rich in both history and tale, myth and legend. Their music is as majestic as the stories that are told through song, a celebration of times gone by .. you can disappear into the intoxicating atmosphere they create.” - Paul Ryan (Cradle of Filth)

“Long at the forefront of UK black metal Winterfylleth have quite rightly become one of the most revered extreme metal bands from these isles.” - Dayal Patterson, Cult Never Dies

Black metal pioneers Winterfylleth have announced a special 20th anniversary edition of Rising of the Winter Full Moon, the demo that marked the beginning of the band's journey in 2007. Released in partnership with Resonance, the anniversary edition brings together the original demo recordings and two previously unreleased instrumental tracks from the same session, making them available on any format for the first time. The release also features updated artwork, replacing the original illustration with an archival photograph of the same view of Alderley Edge that inspired the original cover. Resonance will release the limited-edition vinyl on 27th February 2027.

The anniversary announcement arrives during the week of the Winter Full Moon in 2026, marking a fitting moment to revisit the recordings that first introduced Winterfylleth's distinctive blend of atmospheric black metal, evocative landscapes and reflections on England's historical and cultural past. The release also reunites the band with the team who first signed Winterfylleth, to celebrate two decades of music and the origins of a project that has since become one of the UK's most respected black metal acts.

The demo’s five-track recording session offers a fascinating snapshot of Winterfylleth in their formative years, capturing the early ideas and musical ambitions that would shape their subsequent work. These foundations came to full fruition on their 2008 debut album, The Ghost Of Heritage, which established the band’s approach to atmospheric black metal, weaving together English history, folklore and a profound connection to the natural landscape. Subsequent releases have seen them refine and expand that vision, earning international recognition while remaining true to the themes and sense of identity at the heart of their music.

Looking back on the original recordings, the band explain:

"When we recorded the Rising Of The Winter Full Moon demo in 2006/07, I don't think we could ever have imagined what the band would grow to become, nor what we would have to go through to reach its 20th anniversary.

"At the time of its recording, we actually captured five tracks during the session, rather than the three tracks that are more commonly recognised as the main release. Alongside 'Mam Tor' (The Shivering Mountain), 'The Ghost Of Heritage' and 'Casting The Runes', we also recorded an early version of 'Forging The Iron Of England', called 'Wayland's Smithy' at the time, as well as an early version of the track 'Defending The Realm'.

"Although the recordings on this demo are raw, cavernous and developmental, our fans have often asked us to make them available again. We did so for the 10th anniversary, when we released the demo on vinyl for the first time through our friends at Ulthar Records (R.I.P.).

"Now, as we arrive at the 20th anniversary, we are including the two previously unreleased, instrumental demo tracks from the original session for the first time on any format. This makes the edition you hold in your hands the most complete version of our early material we have ever put together.

"The songs have an honest charm to them and, on reflection, it's great to hear the genesis of where the band came from, all those years ago. We hope that our fans and followers will also enjoy hearing these early songs again, twenty years on.

"Here's to twenty more years, and whatever comes next!"

Presented as a limited-edition gatefold LP pressed on 140g gold nugget swirl vinyl and complete with an obi strip, the anniversary release brings together the three recognised demo tracks and the two previously unheard instrumental recordings from the original session. The first 50 copies will also include a signed item, making this a particularly special release for longtime followers and collectors.

Two decades on from those first recordings, Rising Of The Winter Full Moon offers a rare opportunity to revisit Winterfylleth at the very beginning, raw, unrefined and already laying the groundwork for the sound and vision that would carry them forward. More than a retrospective, this expanded edition preserves a formative moment in the band's history, bringing previously inaccessible material to light and celebrating twenty years of music, evolution and endurance.

About Winterfylleth
Formed in Manchester in 2006, Winterfylleth have spent two decades establishing themselves as one of the UK's leading atmospheric black metal bands, combining ferocious, meticulously crafted music with a deep connection to English history, folklore, landscape and cultural heritage. Named after the Old English term for the winter full moon, the band made their first mark with the Rising Of The Winter Full Moon demo in 2007, before releasing their acclaimed debut album, The Ghost Of Heritage, in 2008. They followed it with a formidable run of records, including The Mercian Sphere (2010), The Threnody Of Triumph (2012), The Divination Of Antiquity (2014), The Dark Hereafter (2016), The Hallowing Of Heirdom (2018) and The Reckoning Dawn (2020), which reached the UK Top 100 Albums Chart. Their eighth album, The Imperious Horizon (2024), continued their exploration of atmospheric intensity and historical themes, while their ninth, The Unyielding Season, released via Napalm Records in March 2026, brought a new chapter for the band and rose to number 21 in the UK charts. Along the way, Winterfylleth have performed at major international festivals including Wacken Open Air, Hellfest, Roadburn, Graspop Metal Meeting and Bloodstock Open Air, and toured alongside influential acts such as Enslaved, Behemoth and Primordial. In 2015, they were named Best Underground Band at the Metal Hammer Golden Gods Awards. Two decades on, Winterfylleth remain a distinctive force in British extreme metal, balancing the grandeur and brutality of black metal with a powerful sense of place, history and identity.

Following the impact of their critically lauded self-titled debut, CROWNSHIFT - comprising seasoned musicians known for their individual histories in iconic acts such as Nightwish, Children Of Bodom, Wintersun, and Finntroll - have quickly elevated themselves from an exciting collaborative project into a dominant standalone force. Extensive international touring, standout festival appearances, European support runs alongside heavy metal royalty like Dirkschneider, and an acclaimed showing on the 2025 edition of the 70,000 Tons of Metal cruise have honed the group into a razor-sharp live unit.

Now, that raw touring kineticism fuels The Shadows We Buried. The forthcoming record represents a natural yet daring evolution of the band’s signature sound, interweaving modern melodic death metal riffs with progressive flourishes, soaring vocal hooks, and dark, cinematic breadth.

The lead single, 'In The Dead Of Night', sets the stage with relentless rhythmic drive and sweeping atmospheres, showcasing the band at their most focused and intense.

What started as a long-held vision shared by four friends has quickly grown into one of Finland's most exciting modern metal acts. Bringing together musicians renowned for their work with Nightwish, Children Of Bodom, Wintersun and Finntroll, CROWNSHIFT have established an unmistakable identity of its own—one built on fearless songwriting, world-class musicianship and a sound that refuses to be confined by genre boundaries.

The band's self-titled debut album arrived to widespread critical acclaim, earning rave reviews from the international metal press and making an immediate impact on the charts. What followed was an intensive touring cycle that firmly established CROWNSHIFT as a formidable live act. From major Finnish festivals to stages across Europe, including a European tour supporting Dirkschneider (UDO), the band quickly translated its studio ambition into an electrifying live experience. In 2025, CROWNSHIFT also brought its music to the high seas as part of the legendary 70,000 Tons of Metal cruise, performing alongside some of the world's leading metal artists.

Musically, CROWNSHIFT continue to blur the lines between melodic death metal, modern metal and progressive influences. Crushing riffs meet soaring melodies, technical precision serves memorable songwriting, and cinematic atmospheres seamlessly coexist with relentless heaviness. Every song is driven by the band's commitment to constant evolution while remaining unmistakably CROWNSHIFT.

Now, the quartet enters its next chapter with its sophomore album, The Shadows We Buried. Building upon the foundation of the acclaimed debut, the new record pushes the band's sonic identity even further—heavier, more melodic and more dynamic than ever before. It captures a band that has grown through countless miles on the road, relentless creative ambition and an uncompromising desire to keep moving forward.

Having already earned the respect of fans, critics and fellow musicians alike, CROWNSHIFT stands ready to take the next step. The Shadows We Buried is not a reinvention, but the sound of a band fully realizing its vision.

GAEREA unveil new song 'Shallow' plus 3 alternative versions

Right before embarking on their upcoming North American tour alongside Imminence and Dying Wish, Portugal's GAEREA unveil their new standalone track, 'Shallow'. Atmospheric, introspective, and deeply emotive, the song arrives just as the days grow shorter, perfectly capturing the melancholy of the season.

Check 'Shallow' here: https://Gaerea.lnk.to/Shallow-BundlePR

The band comments: "'Shallow' was written on the edge where depression and clarity briefly meet in an endless dance. It is a song about hoping for a brighter day while sinking deeper into the dark sheets of self-loathing. One of the most experimental tracks GAEREA have ever created, it gave rise to extensive vocal and orchestral experimentation and serves as a reflection of what GAEREA has become throughout ten years of relentless creativity, touring, and complete commitment to our true selves."

But GAEREA did not want to stop there. Inspired by the song's emotional depth and expansive atmosphere, the band invited several artists from vastly different creative backgrounds to reinterpret “Shallow” through their own artistic lens: The accompanying video for the acoustic version features London-based cellist and composer Jo Quail, whose haunting performance adds an even more sombre and cinematic dimension to the track. Watch it here: https://youtu.be/9vnFWwcRg5g

Meanwhile, renowned electronic artist Paranormal Attack deconstructs the original composition and rebuilds it as a volatile, genre-defying remix, while Juan L. Otaiza distills the song's essence into a dark and deeply evocative piano interpretation.

With these collaborations, GAEREA also sought to shine a spotlight on Portugal's rich creative community. Despite the country's often-overlooked presence on the music map, the band wanted to celebrate and support some of the remarkable talents in and around their homeland.

Over the past 18 months, GAEREA have remained relentlessly active. In addition to releasing their critically acclaimed latest album, Loss, the band has toured extensively alongside Orbit Culture, appeared at numerous European festivals, completed a tour of Australia, and performed in Japan for the very first time. Now, they are preparing to bring their acclaimed live show and the songs from Coma to North American audiences as part of their upcoming run with Imminence and Dying Wish.

GAEREA also just announced a major show in Lisbon for next summer:
04.07.27 (PT) Lisbon - MEO Arena (with Motionless In White, Beartooth, Wage War, Currents, Novelists)

BAT pay tribute to Venom legend Cronos with previously unreleased cover of 'Live Like An Angel (Die Like A Devil)'

Channelling the raw, primitive speed that birthed extreme metal, Richmond metal-punks BAT have unleashed a scorching cover of VENOM’s classic 'Live Like an Angel (Die Like a Devil).'

As a foundational influence on BAT’s own brand of heavy speed metal, the cover serves as a direct tribute to Conrad “Cronos” Thomas Lant. Engineered by Ian Whalen and Yavé Rust, mixed and mastered by Joel Grind and featuring original drummer Felix Griffin, BAT’s 2015 rendition captures the relentless, primitive drive that defined a genre.

BAT's Ryan Waste comments, “It’s undeniable the impact that Cronos and Venom has had on myself and BAT. In the early days of the band we wore our influences on our sleeve, covering Motörhead and Venom in our live set. When it came time to record our debut full length, Wings Of Chains back in 2015, we tracked 'Live Like an Angel (Die Like a Devil)' along with the 12 originals. It’s been lying dormant in the vaults for over ten years and upon hearing the news of Conrad’s passing, we decided to resurrect it in his honour.”

ABOUT BAT:
The power trio, including Ryan Waste, Nick Poulos, and Chris Marshall, decamped to Philadelphia in June 2021 where Arthur Rizk recorded the basic tracks for Under The Crooked Claw. Yavé Rust tracked lead guitars and vocals later when the band was back in Richmond, ultimately to be mixed by Rizk and mastered by Joel Grind. The artwork for the album was inked by Brandon Holt and colored by Margaret Rolicki.

Jam-packed with tight, concise songs loaded with punchy choruses and lightning-laced leads, each of the 13 tracks offers a new horror short story mixing the perfect blend of heavy metal, punk, and rock ‘n’ roll or, as Waste coins it, "primitive heavy speed".

Raphael Weinroth-Browne unveils new single 'Rift'

Following the release of his third solo album, Empyrean, on 11th September, acclaimed Canadian cellist and composer Raphael Weinroth-Browne unveils ‘Rift’, the first of three bonus tracks recorded during the album sessions.

Continuing Empyrean’s exploration of transformation, impermanence and the fragile boundaries between order and chaos, ‘Rift’ brings together the dark, intricate textures of Baroque music and the abrasive force of industrial-tinged electronics. Opening with a brooding, bowed arpeggio sequence that recalls J.S. Bach’s G Major Prelude for solo cello, alongside the austere atmospheres of David Darling’s Cello and Darkwood, the piece gradually builds through layered strings before splintering into jagged electronic textures and a crushing, pulsating beat.

Where the opening passages lean into Bach-inspired restraint, Weinroth-Browne gradually pushes the composition into darker, more turbulent territory, layering increasingly abrasive textures against the cello’s resonant tones. Like Empyrean track ‘Dissolution’, ‘Rift’ draws on the contrast between classical structure and sonic upheaval, reflecting the intellectual and philosophical shifts that challenged established worldviews during the Age of Enlightenment.

Listen to 'Rift' here.

Discover Empyrean album here: https://raphaelweinroth-browne.bandcamp.com/album/empyrean

Comments Raphael: “‘Rift’ encapsulates my dialogue with Bach throughout Empyrean, merging dark Baroque strings with almost industrial-sounding electronic elements. As with ‘Dissolution’, I wanted to explore the idea of a beautiful, harmonious whole fracturing into tiny particles, reflecting the rift between religion and science in Bach’s time and the Age of Enlightenment.”

The origins of new album Empyrean itself are as cinematic as the music it contains. In 2024, Weinroth-Browne was commissioned by James Wilton Dance to compose an 80-minute score inspired by the music and legacy of Johann Sebastian Bach. What emerged became BACH Reimagined: a touring multidisciplinary work exploring immortality, artistic transcendence and the pursuit of the sublime through creation.

Rather than simply reinterpret Bach, Weinroth-Browne entered into dialogue with him across centuries. The resulting compositions fuse the purity and mathematical elegance of Baroque counterpoint with distorted textures, electronic ambience and towering rhythmic weight. Tracks such as 'Speed of Light' and 'Dissolution' plunge Bach-inspired motifs into vast storms of noise and metallic tension, while the meditative 'Sanctum' evokes Sufi mysticism and devotional stillness.

“At its core,” Weinroth-Browne explains, “Empyrean is about the search for the sublime. As artists, we spend our lives trying to create something that transcends the everyday, if only for a split second, as if to glimpse eternity through a keyhole.”

Captured at Union Sound Company in Toronto immediately following the sessions for 2025’s critically acclaimed Lifeblood, Empyrean finds Weinroth-Browne operating at the peak of his creative powers. The album was recorded and engineered by Darren McGill (Rush, The Dirty Nil), mixed by Adam Noble (Leprous, Katatonia) and mastered by Robin Schmidt (Leprous), resulting in a sound both immense and intimate, every bow stroke preserved with almost tactile immediacy. Artwork comes from London-based printmaker and collage artist Cally Conway, discovered by Weinroth-Browne in Brighton during the BACH tour.

Watch the videos for previous singles 'Speed of Light', 'Reflection' and 'Evocation', and discover Raphael's breathtaking standalone interpretation of Sleep Token's 'Fall For Me', showcasing yet another side of his remarkable artistry.

The release follows a run of widespread critical acclaim. His 2020 debut Worlds Within was praised as "masterful" and "a stunning example of less being more," while 2025's Lifeblood saw Raphael further expand his sound into rich cinematic territory, earning praise as "a triumph of vision and virtuosity" and "the most ambitious album of Weinroth-Browne's career."

That same fearless boundary-pushing has made Weinroth-Browne an essential figure within modern progressive music. His cello work can be heard on hundreds of studio albums, including Woods of Ypres’ Juno Award-winning W5: Grey Skies & Electric Light and across many major film and TV soundtracks. Viral interpretations of Opeth, Katatonia and Steven Wilson have drawn direct praise from the artists themselves, further cementing his reputation as a boundaryless interpreter and composer.

Since joining Norwegian prog visionaries Leprous in 2016, he has performed over 200 shows worldwide and contributed to three of their studio albums, helping redefine the role of cello in progressive heavy music. Beyond Leprous, he has shared stages with Evanescence, Apocalyptica and Devin Townsend.

As a solo artist, Weinroth-Browne has become an ambassador for what the cello can be in the 21st century. He has made waves at prestigious festivals such as the Cello Biennale Amsterdam and the International Cello Festival of Canada and has opened for artists ranging from Polish neoclassical pianist Hania Rani to Nordic folk ensemble SKÁLD and Danish prog metal masters VOLA.

With a busy year of live performances, including recent European tours with Earthside and more recently Einar Solberg, Raphael Weinroth-Browne continues to expand the possibilities of the cello. With Empyrean he further cements his reputation as one of the instrument's most adventurous and distinctive modern voices.

Up and coming New York rockers Glasswaves release debut album while(True), share new visualiser

Glasswaves, an up and coming, Rochester, New York-based trio that seamlessly blends dark pop, alternative rock, and electronic elements with a heavy and dynamic edge, have released their new album while(True), today, 23rd October via SharpTone Records.

Get the album here: https://bfan.link/while-true

Today, the band — Noah Rich [vocals], Owen Miller [guitar], and Brendan Curtis [bass] — also share the visualiser for 'Saving[face]'. Watch it here: https://youtu.be/JC0SvQpV9CA

'Saving[face] is a high energy, undulating anthem layered with synths and an immediate urgency that will accelerate your heart rate while you listen.

“'Saving[face]' is about spending so much time putting on a performance for others that we forget where the act starts and ends," says Noah. "We’re all just playing into a role and hiding behind masks to pretend like things are okay. During the writing process of 'Saving[face]' the inspiration for the lyrics came from a deep anger and exhaustion of maintaining this illusion that we’re expected to uphold everyday. Sometimes you have let go of the expectations and accept that things aren't okay."

Regarding the album as a whole, Noah states, "while(True) is our most ambitious and personal release yet. Through the story of a failing medical technology company experimenting with dream manipulation, we explore themes of trauma, addiction, perception, and the unseen forces that shape the way we think. More than anything, this album represents our growth as writers. We challenged ourselves creatively, stopped following expectations, and made the record we truly wanted to make. We can't wait for people to experience the world of while(True) and find their own meaning within it."

In an effort to seemingly better understand and treat trauma, addiction, and obsession, a med-tech company called Liminal-Neuro runs psychological tests on various subjects by administering an experimental drug labelled "Neuro Veil."

When these experiments fail, a radiant ancient female entity known as “The Veil” materialises, embodying the subject’s most intimate desires. This manipulative force brings out the worst in her victims and incites unimaginable horror.

Undeterred by ethics, Liminal-Neuro's lead doctor makes it his mission to find her…

This story could certainly serve as the plotline for an epic sci-fi horror mini-series or even some actual news headline. However, it plays out in captivating fashion on Glasswaves’ full-length debut LP, while(True). The Rochester, NY trio set the narrative's action to a soundtrack electrified by bursts of cathartic metalcore, shockwaves of ethereal hard rock, and spasms of vulnerable dark pop.

Coupled with big screen-worthy storytelling, the collective, which formed in 2023 and steadily built a following through singles, an EP, and touring, instantly strike a chord on multiple levels.

"People will see things happening and choose not to do anything, because it’s easier than taking action,” explains Miller. "Developments like A.I. data centers deplete natural resources, but nobody seems to care. 'The Veil' represents this sort of selfishness. Even though the company Liminal Neuro promises to get rid of your fears and worries and empower you to become the person you want to be, the doctors are merely using everyone just to find 'The Veil.'"

Throughout 2026, the musicians assembled while(True) alongside producer Justin Spaulding, working out of Atlanta and New York as well as via Discord. The group mined a diverse swath of inspirations, spanning The Neighbourhood, Tame Impala, The Plot In You, Sace6, and Bring Me The Horizon.

Ultimately, Glasswaves have crafted a multi-dimensional world without comparison.
